Never Enough

I flop down on my bed with a grunt leaving the door still open behind me. I can feel Rosie looking at me lying face down on the bed when she decides to speak.

“What’s up ducky” she says in a cheery tone, to which I reply with an over exaggerated groan. I don’t look up from my bed covers and I try to gather my thoughts. I can feel the bed sink as she sits next to me.

“Can I explain?” my head snaps up to the sound of a voice that isn’t Rosie’s. His curls fall around his face, framing it perfectly. His necklace swings down and he looks into my eyes intently, he doesn’t look nervous or regretting, he looks determined. For the smallest of moments, I sit there, taking in his appearance before I sit up and give him a gentle nod.
“Well, I’ll leave you two to it” Rosie says with an awkward nod as she excuses herself out of the front door and shuts it behind her.

“Okay, I’m going to talk and you’re not going to interrupt” he said sternly and I agreed with my eyes. “I’m a horrible person” he paused and I furrowed my brows at him, I wasn’t denying it, but I was confused to why he had admitted it. “But I don’t choose to be that way, it just happens.” I nodded slowly not really knowing what he was getting at. “Look I’m sorry, I’m an idiot and a girl like you has boys falling at her feet so why on earth would you give me the time of day when I’m such a jerk, why would you listen to me, I don’t understand why your listening to me right now to be honest.” he was rambling.

“Why did you kiss me” I ask plainly.

“Because I wanted to, and I know that was inconsiderate and forward but that’s exactly what I'm apologising for, if you just give me a chance” he said, he was rambling and now I could see the desperation, the nervousness.

“Why are you telling me this, you kissed me; it’s over I don’t need to hear about what a horrible person you are, I found that much out by myself” I said, okay that was harsh but I needed to gather my thoughts before I could hold a proper conversation with him. I got up and opened the front door, I bit my bottom lip and looked to the floor, not being able to make eye contact as he slowly walked past me. Just when I thought he was gone, he turned back to me.

“I’m telling you this because I want to change, I’m willing to change, if you just give me a chance” he said, his eyes pleading me. Why did I have to make eye contact?
“Then change for me” I barely whispered. “I know there is another side to you Harry, it’s a shame you don’t choose to show it”. We stood there for a few moments in uncomfortable silence.

“Have dinner with me” I gave a simple nod

“Okay, prove it to me Harry” I gave a sad smile and walked back into my room even more confused than before.

I got in and got changed into pyjamas and sat on the bed with Rosie, eating chocolate and explaining everything that happened. She doesn’t think I should go but I know that I have to. There is something about the undeniable butterflies I get when he walks past and the way he makes me feel nervous yet at ease all at the same time, there was something, a spark, God knows whether it is meant to turn into a flame, but my gut is telling me to go, so I shall. And will decide where to go with it after this dinner. Hopefully things become clearer to me after then. Just as I am lost in my thoughts my phone buzzes.
