THE DEATH OF YOU

Chapter 24

When class is over I stretch out my arms, getting ready to collect my thing to leave.
"That wasn't too bad," Liam states, shouldering his backpack.
"No it wasn't," I agree. I reach out for my bag, however, Harry is faster, swooping it up and adding it to his own, shouldering them both. He flashes me a smile and takes hold of my hand, sliding his fingers over mine, and intertwining them together. My heart does this embarrassing flip in my chest and I prey I'm the only one that noticed. This is unforgivingly childish of me. I mean, we've been together before, no reason to act like such a girl about it.
"Where are you headed now?" He glances down at me. My eyes meet his intense gaze and I swallow stiffly before replying.
"She has a class on the other side of campus," Liam answers, rolling his eyes at my lack of speech.
"I'll walk you," Harry decides. All I can do is nod and stare at my feet, feeling my cheeks grow warm.
"Great for you, see you later Cass," Liam chuckles, walking away.
"He grew up," Harry clams watching after him.
"As if you remember how he used to be," I scoff. Harry keeps quiet which makes me glance up at him. He is watching me carefully.
"What are you doing tonight?"
"Umm.. I need to study.. I have an exam tomorrow," I mumble.
It is this small quiz but he doesn't need to know that.
He doesn't reply. Instead, we start walking towards my next class.
We don't talk, though our hands are still linked and people are watching us.
"Cassie..." He finally speaks up. I tilt my head up at him. His eyes are a deep rich green and serious.
"I need to confess to you about something," he claims in a low voice.
I squeeze my eyes close and give my head the slightest shake. I should have known this was too good to be true.
"No! It's not something bad just please listen," His palms find my shoulders and his gaze pierces mine.
I press my lips together, keeping myself from commenting and bracing myself for the truth.
"I didn't start school today.. I'm starting only next week.. I just came to get papers ready and my schedule.. I do have that class with you but I only attended it today because when Liam saw it he let slip that you and him both share it.. and I had to be there too.." his words fly out of his mouth in a jumble of words wanting me to understand.
I smile slowly up at him glad it’s not something scandalous of some sort.
"Are you cross?" He bends slightly adjusting our eye level. I can't help how adorable he is. I reach up and kiss his cheek. I feel his hands snake around my waist and pull me to his chest.
When he finally let's me go he is smiling.
"So.. I have a proposition.. you should come home for this weekend.." He suggests.
"I can't.. I really need to study," I sigh, wishing it wasn't the case, wanting so much to be able to spend time with him and my friends like old times.
"Why don't you study up until Friday night and then I'll drive you back and you can study in the car and then Sunday night I'll drive you back.. please.. I promise you you'd want to be home this weekend," he presses.
I study him carefully. He knows something I don't. And this is not the sort of demands and decisions he used to make for me.. He is persuading me.
"You promise you'll let me study?" I push.
"I swear.. Hell I'll even quiz you if you'd like," he grins. His dimples deep and endearing.
"Ok.. fine.. I'll come home this weekend," I agree.
Happy with my decision, Harry picks me up and spins me around.
"I'll see you tomorrow night then at 7pm," he points at me.
"Sure," I giggle, turning to enter the classroom.

"Miss Price, welcome," the professor comments as I make my way to my seat.
I glance up realizing only now that the room is already full of students who have already started class.
"Yes my dear, you are late," he assures me.
"I'm extremely sorry! Apparently I was not keeping time," I hurry to apologize.
"You must have not, I'm sure Mr. Styles will be there when you’re finished.. now please settle down," he dismisses me. I feel the eyes of my classmates follow me as I take my seat which make my cheeks flush an even deeper red.
The classroom is small and so the professor knows us by name which is a good thing, but yet I learned today, it can also not play to my favour.
"So you and Styles," a boy sitting beside me whispers.
"Excuse me?"
"It's just you don't seem each other's type that's all.." He shrugs.
"And you would know?" I can't help but ask this stranger.
"Fair point.. I'm Justin," he whispers, flashing me a grin.
"That's nice," I mumble, turning back to the board. No point introducing myself, since it seems he already knows who I am and apparently who my type is as well.
"Don't be offended.. It was just a statement.." He leans closer so he can lower his voice even more. I glance at him swiftly.
He doesn't speak again and I focus my attention on my dear professor.

"Don't be offended by me.. It was a joke.. Well kind of," Justin states when class is over.
"It's fine really," I dismiss him.
"It's fine?" He raises a brow.
"Well no actually.. it's not fine to make assumptions about things and people you don't know but I'm used to people doing it.. and I have years of practice ignoring comments and people like you.. so if you'll excuse me.. I have places I need to be," I turn my back on him and make my way out of class.
"Wait Cassie.. please!" He tugs on my hand, pulling me to a stop. When I do he let's go of me.
"I'm sorry! I was rude.. it's just I'm in a few of your classes and well.. you know when you know of someone and you build this whole thing about who they are and what they are like in your head but then find out you are way off?" He smiles apologetically at me.
"Like when you're rooting on this someone in a movie but then find out he's the killer?" I question, glancing up at him.
"Yes! Not that you’re a killer or anything!" He hurries to claim.
"You would never know," I shrug eyeing him.
We start walking out.
"So.. I'm not hitting on you or anything.. I mean I don't want anyone getting the wrong idea and then needing to defend myself in a fist fight but.. would you like to be study partners?" He asks.
"You're something, you know that?" I roll my eyes at him.
"I hear that all the time," he chuckles.
"By who? Your mum?" I taunt, which makes him burst out in laughter.
"Please?" He pushes when he calms down.
"Yeah sure.. why not," I sigh.
"Really?" He breaks into an even wider smile.
"Sure.. I mean if you cross me in anyway Harry will take care of you," I send him an evil smile which makes him laugh again.
"I see you met Justin," Liam catches up to us. He is striding on the my other side, reaching in front of me to fist bump Justin.
"So are you study partners yet?" He grins smugly.
"You know each other?" It's more of a statement then a question.
"You haven't told her??" Liam raises his brows in surprise.
"That we're dating? Not yet," Justin jokes.
"Justin's my roommate," Liam explains.
"Wait- not really..." I eye them suspiciously.
"Yes really.. come on Cass.. don't you remember I told you about him?"
"Yeah Cass.. about his tall, handsome, smart and clever wannabe doctor of a roommate?" Justin shoves me playfully.
"Oh yeah.. I remember something about conceited full of shit roommate of yours," I taunt.
"I thought you said she was nice," Justin shakes his head at Liam.
"I never said that.. I said she was trouble.. not nice," Liam counters.
"I'm not trouble!!" I exclaim, swatting Liam's arm.
"Right.." Liam says sarcastically.
"Trouble finds me," I explain to Justin.
"That makes so much sense," he chuckles.
"No but really.. why didn't you just come straight out and say you know Liam?" I question.
"Because.. we should be study mates because you want to.. not because I know Liam," he explains.
"Fair enough," I agree.

It is late Friday and Harry is sat on the sofa in my dorm room waiting patiently for me to finish packing the things I need so we can get on the road.
"I'm almost done," I call out to him, knowing how aggravated he can get when he needs to wait.
"Take your time Cass.. it's fine," he calls back. I stop for a moment what I'm doing and just stand frozen in place. That sounds nothing like Harry. Being fine with waiting. I finish up packing and make my way to him.
"Ok.. I've got my books and clothes.. I think I'm good," I pat my side pocket. I am sure I had my phone. Harry stands up and then leans in back of me to the shelves picking my phone up and handing it over to me.
"Are you ready then?"
"Yes.. Umm are you sure you don't want me to follow you in my car? It's silly for you to need to bring me all the way back just to drive back home again," I tell him.
"Give me your bag and start marching out that door bambi," he rolls his eyes.
"What did you just call me?" I swipe my head in his direction.
"Ahh.. Niall's been spending time with Michael and that nickname is kind of sticking," he mumbles.
"No! Make it unstick! Nick used to use that name too!" I snap angry.
"Really? Damn.. I didn't know.. sorry," he hurries to say. And I believe him. His cheeks are a light shade of red, which is also unusual for Harry. He never blushes.
And then it suddenly hits me. He is nervous.
I smile thoughtfully and make my way outside.
Julie is out at a party so Harry, holding my keys, locks the door after us.
Once we start driving I take out my books to catch up on some more studying, slightly panicked I won't get enough work in to pass my classes.
"Study out load," Harry speaks, eyes on the road.
"Out load?"
"Yeah.. teach me. It'll be easier for you and also I won't feel ignored," he smirks.
I press my lips. This actually is not a bad idea.
So I start going over my notes, teaching Harry human anatomy, and breaking down everything making sure he actually understands my babbling.
We roll into Watford both knowing enough to pass the test.
And I am happy and glad I took up his offer to come home, excited to see Sam and Sarah.
"Umm.. Harry my house is the other way," I note when he turns left instead of right.
"We aren't heading to your house yet," he informs.
"We aren't?"
"No. We have a detour," he comments.
"Detour called the shack?" I frown, raising my brows, amused. This is the hangout for my gang of friends. So no shocker there.
"I promise you, you want to be here tonight," he smirks again.
I realize Harry knows something I don't. I am about to ask him about it when my phone starts ringing.
"Hey Perrie," I smile to myself. I peek at Harry, noting his smirk is even wider.
He parks the car outside the shack as Perrie screeches in my ear.
"I'm engaged! I'm getting married!" She screams.
My mouth falls open.
"Congratulation! That is fantastic!" I exclaim happily, understanding now this is why Harry wanted me here. He knew.
I get out of the car and follow him to the shack's doors as she rambles about me missing the party.
"I'm not missing any party!" I comment firmly.
"I wish you were here Cass so the whole gang could be together," she yells over the noise.
"We are! Come give me a hug!" I say. I watch as she spins around, our friends following and as her eyes find me. A shriek leaves her lips as she hurries over to Harry and I, her hand with the glittering ring raised for us to see.

"Thank you Harry for bringing her here," she says as her hands wrap around me. I smile at him happy he did too. I would have died if I'd miss this.
