Prologue
I sighed. I could have known Blaze would arrive late again. We agreed to meet up near her house outside, next to a little park, but she still wasn’t there. The bench I was sitting on was cold and as I breathed out my breath turned into little clouds looking like smoke. It was one of the first cold days this winter. Normally I don’t really care if she’s late, but it started to get dark, even though it was still early. I’ve always preferred summer. I wrapped my coat a little tighter around me, hoping for some extra warmth. After 5 more minutes I was tired of waiting and decided to walk to Blaze’s home.
I could hear my footsteps clearly. With this kind of weather everybody was usually inside, enjoying a cup of tea. All of the sudden I heard voices around the corner. When I turned to the right into the next street, I saw who it were. It was a stupid group of boys who always annoyed and molested everyone they came past. I looked down to the ground kind of trying to hide myself, but I saw one of them look at me. He winked at the other guys, bringing their attention to me too and shouted: ‘Hey shawty, aren’t you too scared walking alone around here, in the dark?’. ‘Yeah maybe I should walk with her’ another one shouted. I tried to hide my face into a scarf, not willing to react to their stupid talks. ‘I can show you my bedroom if you want, it nice and warm there.’ The group laughed and came closer. One of them grabbed my arm and try to pull me closer. As I resisted he laughed and stepped closer himself. ‘What’s wrong babe, are you scared?’. ‘I would be scared of him too if I were you’. The boys laughed again. ‘Let me go!’ I shouted. ‘What? I can’t hear you’. All the boys laughed again. I felt tears coming up, the boys were clearly drunk and then they didn’t know their limits.
Out of nothing I heard a low, raspy voice say: ‘She said she wanted you to let go’. I turned around to see a pale, tall boy. Some brown curls sneaked out of the beanie he was wearing. He was wearing sunglasses, which confused me, because it was dark as hell outside. He looked somewhat familiar. The group of boys turned around to face Harry. At first they looked shocked, but soon grins filled their faces. ‘And who are you?’ One of them asked. ‘I am her brother, can you let her go?’ The grins disappeared and after muttering something the boys started to walk away, soon laughing again because of their drunken mood.
The boy smiled at me. ‘Not so smart of you to walk alone around here in the dark.’ He had a cute smile, dimples forming at his cheeks. ‘Well I was supposed to meet up with a friend, but she’s late again, so I was walking towards her house.’ ‘Not nice of her to be late.’ He answered. ‘Well, she always is and I’m used to it now.’ ‘I can walk to her house with you if you want.’ The boy offered. ‘Sure.’ I smiled and started walking again. We walked for silence for a while. ‘Still,’ The boy began out of nothing, ‘It would bother me if my friends kept on arriving too late.’… I recognized his voice from something… ‘Yeah, it kind of bothers me.’ I answered. ‘Well tell her then!’ I smiled; ‘You know you’re not actually my brother right? I don’t need you to help me.’ The boy chuckled, ‘Well, you clearly did need my help a few minutes ago.’ I smiled and bumped my elbow into his arm.
We arrived at Blaze’s house. ‘By the way, what’s your name?’ The boy asked. ‘Rose’ I answered. ‘Well, it was nice to meet you Rose! Take care, don’t walk around in the dark alone anymore.’ He said teasingly. I laughed, ‘We’ll see.’ ‘Well, I’ll see you around sometime.’ The boy smiled and started to walk away. ‘Wait, you didn’t tell me your name!’ I called after him.
He turned his head around with a smile on his face, still walking and answered; ‘It’s Harry.’
Harry… Harry…. I knew I had seen him before.
