Tell me if you love me

Ashleys POV:

I don’t feel alive, I feel dead like I am no longer fit for this world. I lie in bed time passes, time stills and I really couldn’t tell the difference. People visit, voices mutter behind closed doors but I just lie there. Hours turn into days, days turn into weeks. Until one morning my silence is broken, there is a knock on my door and someone walks in, but he can’t be here I shake my head and start to cry, its just a dream an amazing dream, but just a dream I saw Luke, the doctors faces, he’s dead. “Go away” I sob “Its not you” Why am I being tortured like this? “Ashley Lydia Irwin I am pretty sure I am standing here having a conversation with you, and the last time I checked, alive” he says
Its only then that I realise, this feels real.

“Oh my God!” with sudden strength I launch myself off my bed and into his arms. “Oh my god, I thought I lost you!” I laugh and cry as I squeeze him as hard as I can, just to make sure. There is a knock on my door and my mother comes in, I am furious with her I untangle myself from Luke’s embrace “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” I demand. “Ashley, honey the doctors who assessed you said you were in such a bad emotional state and Luke’s condition was not stable enough to confirm whether he would live, darling it has killed me seeing you in this condition believe me.” Her face crumbles and I hug her to me “I understand” I whisper.

The details soon emerge, Luke was out late that night because he had just dropped his brother off at the airport, both drivers were going at high-speed so no one was to blame. Luke was in a coma because of a head injury, the day after the last time I saw him at the hospital, he woke up but was still in an unstable condition. Its frightening how close I came to losing him, and now that I have seen how life would have been without him I want him by my side always, so thats why I am on my way to his house now on a surprise visit. Even though its been a week I sometimes dont believe he’s really okay and need to see him. I stand outside, I have made a real effort with my appearance, even going to the trouble of wearing make-up. Liz answers with an unreadable expression on her face she just stands there and I wonder why sh doesn’t ask me inside, then I hear a laugh that turns my blood into ice, I know just who this girlish laugh belongs to and the voice that comes after it, Christine.
I almost push past Liz in my hurry to get inside. I run up the stairs to Luke’s room and see them, together. Christina has her arm around him and the are both laughing together. God, I feel so bad being near her she is so effortlessly beautiful. I cough pointedly and Luke turns around to see who it is, he immediately takes his arm from around her shoulder “Hey, Ash what a surprise” the way he says it doesn’t make me feel much better its like he doesn’t even want me there. “No its alright I was just leaving wouldn’t want to interrupt anything I swivel on my heel and run downstairs.

I expect him to call me, explain, but he doesn’t.
