Chapter 3

Harry, the name echoed around in my head a bit, it was a common name but it struck me with curiosity. "Back to being a mute, are we?" he flashed a quick smile before sitting back down in his original seat against the bars. I wasn't trying to seem impossible to speak with, there was just so much pain and everything was so surreal.

"Sorry, it's just... this is all so-"

"Impossible? ... Yeah I get it...So..." he paused for a moment. I looked at him straight in the eyes. Harry looked as if he were trying to formulate a thought. "Why are you here...?" his gaze fell upon my eyes, his eyes held a whirlwind of sympathy within them.

"Your guess might be as good as mine. From what I've gathered I think they think I'm the governors' daughter. I don't know though... It's all a little fuzzy." Harry's eyebrows creased, confusion written on his face. "You okay? You look stressed or something?"

"Where are you from, Cali?"

"Delta, Leos Province. Why?" The look of confusion vanished from his face and was replaced by complete shock.

"That's over 2000 miles away!" his eyes were wide as he shouted the distance at me. Shit, where am I?

"What!" There had to be some mistake. My mind went whizzing in almost every direction. Harry had to be wrong he just had to be. "Where are we, Harry?"

"You're on the other side of the continent, Hun. You're in Airius." With my heart falling out of my chest and all hopes of being rescued smashed, it was that moment that I knew I'd never be getting home.
***
I had spent a good portion of what I presumed to be day listening to Harry tell his tale of how he ended up in this cell. He had explained that he was orphaned in Airius when he was just 5. His mother had been gunned down before his eyes for trying to steal bread for her poor starving curly haired boy. He then grew up scavenging with other orphan boys his age for food. He was always running from the soldiers that enforced the laws. He told how cold hearted he could be, he told me that it became second nature to be dangerous, not because he wanted to but because he had to survive. Harry explained that he didn't care if a solider was killed by him or someone else, he would live. And that's how Harry ended up here. Gunning down a solider while trying to escape.

While looking at Harry, I could see the scars of abuse he suffered from being a young orphaned child on the streets of a dictator ruled state. We talked about how I ended up here for bit after he finished his stories and he gave me looks of sympathy.

"They wont stop till I give them the info, but I don't have any info to give them!" As if on cue with my words, guards came crashing through the door. I flinched back and grimaced in pain, my injuries still very much present.

"Harry, get up." The tones of the guards were rough yet no emotion laced in them what so ever. I looked at him, wide eyed and shaky; I could tell he was scared. They hadn't done anything with him and Harry had been here awhile, if they were going to do something now, it meant something bad. When Harry didn't budge from his spot, they reached out to yank him up. With adrenaline pumping through my veins, I reacted without even knowing what I was doing.

Lurching out of my positioned, I shuffled to shield his body desperately hoping to save him.

"No, stop!" I yelled. I had probably just knocked on death's door.

"Now give me one good reason why I shouldn't beat your tiny ass for getting in my way." He raised his gun, fully prepared to let it come crashing into my head.

"Because I know things." What was I saying? I knew nothing. "If you let that gun crash into me, those answers you so desperately need, will be gone." I just kept digging my hole deeper and deeper, but I couldn't stop the words from flowing.

"Cali-" Harry was abruptly cut off by the guard as if he wasn't even there.

"Come with me." The guard surprisingly helped me up and assisted me in walking. I turned to look at Harry and I saw him shake his head with wide eyes.

"No, Cali! Stop!" But it didn't matter what Harry said now, it was either deliver the info or get beat. So I better come up with something to say because in reality, I knew nothing.
***
I sat in a far different room than before. In front of me was a table made out of wood, maps strewn across it, and a few lamps illuminated the room. It amazed me how much the guards' attitude towards me changed once they realized I had info to share with them.

As I sat there waiting for the man in charge to join me, I began to think of lies to share with them. I knew where Delta's base was because I use to send my father letters, but they didn't know. I could easily tell them a lie and not the actual location and I'd be sent back to my cell, safe and sound.

It took a few minutes for the man in charge to arrive but he did eventually. "Cali! How nice it is to see you again! I hear you have some info to share with me?" This guy didn't beat around the bush. "Well go on. Don't be shy, share!"

"I uh-" Damn, I was really rusty at lying. "I know where Deltas base camp is." I could feel my cheeks heating up. I used to be so good at this as a child; of course I wasn't facing death then though.

"Well, I have a map here, sweetie, come point it out!" I strode over slowly to the table; my eyes quickly found where I knew the camp would be, but now where do I tell them it is? "Is there a problem?" the man's voice darkened rather quickly.

"No, I'm uh... just a little weak still." That wasn't technically a lie. I found a city about 200 miles west of the Delta's real base camp and explained how it was just outside of that city. When I heard no reply or movement I looked up to see the man staring me dead in the eyes.

"You know Cali; I hope you aren't lying to us." Shit. "Because if you are, I think you know what will happen. Especially what might happen to that friend of yours back in your cell." No, don't bring Harry into this. He is innocent and doesn't deserve to be here. For reasons unknown though my conscious told me he did. "You sure about what you told us?"

"Yes, last I heard from... my father..." those words felt so wrong. "That's where base camp is." Big fat lie.

"Alright, take her back."

"Wait! You're not letting me go?!" Bull, all of this was bull. I told them info, yes it was all a lie, but they didn't know that!

"Why would I let you go when there's so much more info in that pretty little head of yours just waiting to spill out."

They grabbed one of my arms more forcefully than the last assisted me back to my cell. With their good attitude gone, they threw me in to rejoin Harry. I winced in pain when I hit the ground, adrenaline leaving my veins I would soon start to feel the pain again.

"Cali! Are you hurt? What happened?" The concern Harry had for me took me by surprised; he was raised to be so rough yet the care for others he felt was still there. I waited till the door was shut and I could no longer hear the guards outside the cell room.

"Harry, we have to leave. Like now!" I frantically began looking around for a way out. Jiggling the door. Nothing. There was no way out. Soon they would realize that I had told them a big fat lie and they would kill both of us.

"WOAH. STOP. Hold up. What happened?" Harry's eyes looked frantic for information that I possessed.

"We will leave tomorrow. But it's going to take every bit of strength you have, be prepared to fail, be prepared to die."
