Ripped At Every Edge

Chapter 3 - Harry

The doctor is ushering Liam and I down the empty corridors of the hospital.

“She’s been moved out of the ICU. Her vitals stayed stable throughout the night, she’s in stable condition, so we got her her own room.”

“Is her family on their way?” I ask. I was running my hands through my unwashed hair, my eyes feeling tired. I tried keeping up with Dr. White’s long strides.

“We weren’t successful contacting anyone on her behalf. Which makes sense, considering she’s from the states. We’d have no info here unless she’d visited a medical atmosphere here in the UK.”

"So no one's coming for her?" Liam asks, sounding just as astounded as I was.

"Not yet, we'll ask again, now that she's conscious and alert," Dr. White replies.

We finally reached the patient care units, where the doctor motioned towards room 112.

“Should we go in?” I suddenly asked.

“We don’t want to frighten her,” Liam said slowly.

“Some visitors might be good for her, she’s been through a lot. But I’ll go ask, if you’d like?”

We both nod in agreement, I cross my arms waiting for the doctor to return.

“This is absurd,” Liam mumbles, “I mean, she doesn’t even know who we are.”

“I know,” I agree quietly.

I heard mumbling going on in the room. The curtains were closed though, so I couldn’t quite see in. Maybe Liam was right. This made absolutely no sense. I knew she was okay, so maybe it was time to just leave.

I clear my throat hastily, “Do you think we should jus’ go?” I ask.

Liam shrugs lightly, rocking back and forth on his tired legs.

“We should probably jus’ go,” I mumble, slowly turning on my feet. Just as we’re about to escape back down the hallway, Dr. White emerges from her room, waving the two of us over.

Liam and I exchange awkward glances before sliding over to room 112.
