Something Good Can Work

Sex on Fire

I’ve been here for three weeks and it’s rained almost every day. It’s way too chilly for September and I have absolutely no friends.
I’ve been so withdrawn lately; I wouldn’t even know how to be happy if I could be.
My cousin, Louis, has been going out of his way to include me in everything and I really appreciate it, but I just want to be alone. My grandmother keeps telling me it’s not healthy, but what is healthy really?
How is the healthy way to cope with death? Let me lie on the couch all day and watch SVU reruns, it helps. I promise.
Today Louis convinced me to go with him to a gig at some local pub, one bright side of living in England, the whole drinking age thing. Not that I intend to drink, because you know… mommy issues. I do intend to go watch local music at pubs though.
He said the band was “bloody brilliant” and they were supposedly unveiling a new lead singer tonight, so I mean whatever right. Music is supposed to be good for the soul, plus I am going a little stir crazy. There are only a few more weeks until school starts again.
I’ve decided to put on something other than a pair of sweatpants too, so progress.
“Summer, you almost ready cuz?” Louis’ voice called from the hallway, he stayed at Gran’s a lot. His mom was a nurse without borders or whatever and was always away. It seemed to be the family trend to have bastard children. Well, just our generation at least. Gran and Gramps had been together for, well ever basically. They had a love so true, it was sickening. I mean, I like them. It’s just, getting thrown into living with someone you’ve met a handful of times and really only had a relationship via phone, it’s a bit intimidating.
“I’m coming!” I replied, smearing some red lipstick on my lips. It used to be my signature; blonde hair, blue eyes, and red lips. I was wearing a pair of tight fitting shorts that came about mid-thigh, my top was cropped, but it didn’t really show because I had a long cardigan over it. It was too cold to not wear a jacket. I know you’re thinking, but you have on shorts…. beauty is sacrifice, right?
We took Louis’ car or whatever it was, it was small and cramped and smelled like gym shorts. The ride was pretty long too, we lived kind of out of the way. You know, in bum fuck Egypt. What’s the point of living in England if you’re not going to be close to any type of metropolis? After about a twenty five minute drive full of Louis singing along to some strange European hip hop, we finally arrived. Normally I would be so eager to get in, to dance, to let my hair down, to just forget life you know? This was different, I felt scared, insecure even. I mean, I’ve never had that problem. If anything you might even call me conceited. This was not the case tonight.
The line inside the pub was pretty long, but when we got there, Louis slapped hands with a pretty attractive Irish guy. He seemed to have some kind of connection and we walked right in.
“Sum, this is Niall. He’s a good mate of mine. He’ll be in school with us.” Louis said as we stood in the crowded lobby, waiting on the crowd to move a little so we could get to the bar.
“Hey there, nice to meet you!” He said over the chatter, taking my hand and giving it a light squeeze.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Summer.” I replied, hating it when Louis abbreviated my name. It as a peeve like no other.
“You’re American?” He asked with an arched brow. I always forget I’m the one with the accent.
“Yeah, I am.” I think I may have even laughed a little. The further into the pub we got, the closer he was pressed against my side. Every time I turned my head to look at him, I noticed a new feature. His eyes were obviously first and they were an incredible shade of blue with a nice vibrant burst of green near his pupils. His smile was wonderful and he had some type of clear braces, which only added to the adorable factor. His hair was sticking straight up, troll doll style, and was a very energetic shade of blonde. His laugh, whoa his laugh. Just being near him made me want to laugh too. Maybe I was finally making a friend.
I was a little too caught up in noticing all the little things about Niall, that I ran straight into a tall dark haired fellow who was trying to cut across the crowd. My head practically smashed right into his chest and his hands were on my shoulders in an instance.
“You all right love?” He asked, his voice lazily rolled off his tongue. Okay maybe I underestimated this place, two gorgeous guys within minutes of each other. I was normally not one to let boys distract me, but these boys. Wow.
“I’m fine, so sorry!” I yelled over the music that had started up, whoever was playing was starting up.
“Harry!” He said as he leaned in to tell me his name. “You are stunning, I’ve never seen you around here though?” He added, his face dangerously close to my own.
I Smiled, feeling my cheeks flush and completely forgetting about Louis and Niall who had no doubt left me behind by now.
“I haven’t been around, so that’s probably why. I’m Summer.” He took my hand, pulling it to his lips, and planting a tender kiss on my skin. Be still my heart.
“I’ve got to run, but hopefully you’ll be around now.” He said with a wink, turning to run toward the stage. His hair was long and unruly, he was dressed in almost all black except for his blue blazer, and his smile was ungodly. I wished he didn’t have to go, but as soon as he walked away Louis was grabbing my arm.
“You all right? Did he mess with you?” He asked in an unexpectedly defensive tone. I arched a brow and pulled my arm free. “What? No, why would you think that?”
Niall was suddenly on the other side of me, I didn’t even realize.
“He’s not exactly a nice guy, Summer. He’s got a list a mile long of hearts he’s broken, you should watch yourself.” He added, apparently they were not friends.
“He just apologized for me running into him.” I defended, he had been utterly charming in the thirty seconds we spoke.
“Whatever, just watch yourself with him. C’mon, let’s get up front!” Louis called, tugging Niall and I behind him and toward the stage.
Everyone was gathered around the stage, cheering and jumping about when a dark haired boy approached the mic, his hair was black and slicked up into a slope his black attire accented by the electric blue bass he had over his chest. He had a very thick accent, it didn’t sound like the others though. Taking from the girls calling out “Zayn! Zayn!” I’m going to assume his name is, well, Zayn. “What’s up Manchester?! As you all know, Olly had to leave us to go off to uni in a far away land. Do not fret though, we have found a very talented man to fill those boots that are oh so large. Everyone give it up for our new front man, HARRY STYLES!” There was a drum roll from the leather clad boy sitting at the set, I saw Harry run up the stairs and grab the mic and sling a guitar over his shoulder. He didn’t speak, he just began belting out lyrics to the tune of heavy bass lines and quick drum beats. It definitely had a sex pistols meets the voice of God feel to it. Harry’s voice was heavenly, the lyrics being sung were definitely enough to make me blush. I could see that Louis and Niall were trying so hard to not seem impressed, but they were nodding along.
I leaned over to Louis “Do they all go to school with us?”
He nodded, giving me a shrug and a hip bump. I think he was able to swallow his pride just to see that I was finally smiling.
They had finished the third song, the crowd was still cheering just as loudly as they had when they first got on stage. There were at least 200 people crammed into this tiny building.
The boys had drunk a few pints by now and I could tell Niall was getting a little tipsy, he kept dancing with me in the slyest of ways.
I was clapping along with the crowd when I saw Harry dart his eyes directly toward me.
“When I was on my way on stage tonight…I bumped into a goddess.” He paused, giving me a wink and a smile that could probably cure cancer.
“Let’s all give Summer a proper Manchester welcome, shall we?!”He yelled, holding the mic out so everyone could cheer.
“This one’s for you beautiful.” He said before the bass began, it reminded me of the Talking Heads and I was immediately impressed. Even for a cheerleader, I had a very deep diversity in music taste. I could thank my mother for that.
These words basically sex. It was like he was singing sex to me. I don’t even know what sex is like, but I imagine it’s exactly like his voice at this moment.
I had zoned in completely on Harry, Niall and Louis were like a distant memory at this moment.
He had to be some sort of wizard.

No pun intended.

Sadly it was over too soon, Harry was immediately swarmed by girls that were probably my age but dressed much older. Niall took my hand in his and tugged me away from the stage, “C’mon I think Lou has drunk himself sick.” He spoke quickly, my head turning to catch one last glimpse of those green eyes, a moment that would stay with me forever.

Notes

Whatcha think? I hadn't intended on all the boys being in the band, but it made more sense since they were friends, yeah? ANYWAY. You know what to do :P
