Just a Little Bit of Your Heart

Ch.19

Luke's POV

I drive Madison home after our steamy session and park far enough away from her house so she wouldn't get caught. She was so nervous on the way back home, but I found it kind of cute in a way. The way she is all talkative and never seems to need to catch her breath. Don't get me wrong at the same time it was freaking me out as well, soon her nerves started rubbing off on me and I was scared that she was going to get caught.

Nevertheless, I got my big smooch and she shuffled home in her baggy cotton shorts, that made me want to get inside again. Anyways, I'm back at my flat staring at the ceiling, waiting for my second meet up with my social worker.

"You're going to be okay." Ashton says putting on his assuring smile that always makes me feel better.

"I just don't understand why she's coming again. I haven't been in trouble any, she has no reason to come back." I sigh, wiping my hands over my face.

"Knock knock." Calum says, acting as if he were about to knock. "Mrs. Latham is here."

I feel my body tense up, not knowing what is about to happen. Without having time to respond, Mrs. Latham shows her awfully happy face and peers through my bedroom door, uninvited. "Hello, Luke. How are you?"

"Yeah. Let's go to the porch." I tell her, and hop up from my bed to lead her to the deck like normal.

"So how have you been?" She asks, smoothing out her dress, sitting on the bench.
"How about we cut to the chase. Why are you back?"

"See that's the whole point of a 'surprise visit'."

I close my eyes and sit back on the wooden stool, feeling uneasy as it creaks. "So what do you want?"

"To see how you've been doing."

I open one of my eyes and peer at her with annoyance. "You're lying. I can tell. Mrs. Latham just tell me with this is, so we can get this over with."

Mrs. Latham sighs and starts to sit up more straighter, almost as if she was stretching or preparing herself for what she has to tell me, which makes me feel more uncomfortable. Now, I'm sat just as straight as her, my eyes not missing a single detail of her body language. "Luke." She starts out slowly. "There's a family that would like to adopt you. Take you in if you will."

"What?" I laugh, trying not to believe this.

Mrs. Latham nods, a smile spreading across her face, clearly reading me wrong. "Yeah. I think this will be great for you, Luke. Tomorrow I will take you with me to the office where they will be waiting for you. You will meet them, and they will make their final decision."
"Okay, so firstly, I'm not liking the fact that your saying, 'I will.' I don't have to do anything. You can't make me go to this meeting."

"Actually I can, Luke. Of course you don't have to enjoy it, but you will be polite as well."

"Doesn't it make a difference if I like this family?" I raise my voice some. "I don't want to do this, and you won't fucking make me."

"Luke, dear. Calm down. This is for the best. Sam isn't going to have enough room for you in the future, because she will be taking more kids in. Your friends are going to be meeting up with a family as well, and if they can't find anyone, they will just be shipped somewhere else."
"What the actual fuck?!" I shout, feeling my temper get the best of me. "I won't go! My friends won't go! We have to much to loose here, and you know that! All you want to do is get the best of us! If you or Sam cared so much about anyone here, you wouldn't be treating us like a bunch of castaways."

"Luke where are you going?" I ignore her as I storm off into the house, packing my bags.

"Everything okay?" Michael wonders. "Mate they're only trying to give us a better life."

"By taking everything away from us? Mike, she told me that if your social workers couldn't find a place you, they'd ship you off somewhere else. Ship. Like your some kind of misfit toy."

"Oh. That's pretty fucked up. Actually that kind of makes me mad." Michael starts clenching his fists. "Running away?"

"To Madison's." I nod.

"If you don't want to be shipped off, I suggest you leave while you still can." I say and slip out of the window.

~~~*~~~
"Hello?" She answers on the first ring.
"Hey, listen I need you to do me a favor." I speak, rubbing my free hand in my pocket to keep from the cold.
"What's wrong?" Madison wonders, her voice starting to worry.
"Don't worry, I'm fine. I just need you to convince your parents to let me come stay with you. To come live with you for a while until I can get back on my feet."
"Uhm, okay. But I need to give them a story. They're not home yet, so just walk though the door."
"On my way." I say, and click the line dead.
I don't even have to wait for the door to open, let alone knock because Madison was already standing on the porch tapping her foot. Instantly she wraps her hands around my neck and pecks my lips. "Hello to you too." I smirk, licking my lips.
"What's wrong?"
"Long story." I answer and make myself inside.
"Hello, Luke." Parker waves sitting at the table. "Why exactly do you need a place to stay?"
"Well." I start as Madison, makes her way to the table. "So, I live in a home and everything, right? Well, they want to take me away to some other family like I'm nothing but a memory. I'm not going to let that happen. I won't. So I decided to run off, and prove to them that I'm not letting this happen. I only need to stay for about two months. That my birthday." I cringe at the last part and stop talking.
"By staying here until you birthday, you'll be 18 and the state can't do anything." Parker sates, making sure he's following.
I nod. "Do you think your parents will let me?"
"Well there's only one way to find out. But they won't be home tonight, so you can just stay over and we'll tell them tomorrow."
"Thanks." I say, and begin picking up my bags.
"There's a guest bedroom open!" Parker calls, making me chuckle. To have a little respect, I lay my stuff down in the room, but go to Madison's room instead.
"Sorry this happened." Madison sadly smile, sitting on her bed.
"I'm still thinking about what happened today." I smirk, making her blush.
"I had fun."
"I did too." I clear my throat finding what I'm about to say tough. "Madison?"
"Hm?"
"I'm glad, I was your first." I smile, pushing my cold metal piercing to her mouth. She closes her eyes and tugs on it, turning me on again.
"I could get used to two months of this." She breaths. "Just don't leave, okay? Even if you can't stay here, don't leave. Or at least without telling me first."
"I promise you, Maddy. I couldn't leave you." I breath this time, finding it weird that I could care for someone so much in just a matter of months.
"Me either. I like you a lot, Luke."
"I like you a lot too."
