I've Got This Friend

"You look so pretty!" Mum squeals whilst helping me with my makeup. She works as a beautician, so she can do makeup pretty well. She tried to make me wear something more classy than my skinny jeans, but I objected. Hey at least their not ripped.

"Thanks Mum." I smile.

Then my step dad walks in. "Where are you going dresses like that?" I was only in my normal attire which confused me a bit, but then he laughs. "Just kidding. Be careful, though. Don't let this boy pressure you into doing anything you don't want to."

I wish I could tell him that he's not really my dad, but I know where he's coming from. "I gotcha." We hear a beep from the drive. "Is that him?" Travis asks.

"I guess." I nod.

"Why doesn't come in here? We'd love to meet him." Mum pouts.

"I don't know guys. Maybe next time. Bye." I wave them off.

In the distance, I can hear them calling for me to be safe and how much they love me. "You look beautiful." Jack compliments when I get in the car.

"Thank you. You don't look so bad yourself." He was a lot more dressed up than me and I was starting to wonder if I was supposed also. "Um are we going some place fancy? I can change."

"No." He laughs. "I just thought I'd put something on to impress you. It's not that fancy."

"Okay." The rest of the ride was silent. Sometime it was comfortable, but others it was kind of awkward.

"Here we are." Jack points out, pulling into the parking lot of a small burger joint. I didn't mind though, I was always hungry.

He gets out and opens the door for me. As we walk in he places his hand on my lower back, internally making me cringe.

We take our seat at the table, and order our food. Soon after, we were chatting and having a decent time. "Are you from here?" I ask, just noticing his American accent.

"No, I'm from America. My folks got a job promotion down here so I had to kind of up and leave everything."

"Oh. I'm sorry. People down here are really friendly. You'll fit in I'm sure." I nod. I knew how he felt up and leaving everyone. Luckily Ashton never left.

After we're done eating, we tip the waitress and make out way out of the restaurant, bumping into four boys. "Jessie!" Luke smiles, wrapping me up in a hug.

"What are you guys doing here?" I ask them.

"We were going to eat, but we'll just go somewhere else now." Ashton grumpily states, trudging off in the other direction.

I give the boys a look, but all they can come up with is, "Maybe he's too hungry."

"We'll see you all later. It was nice seeing you." Jack talks for me. Something I didn't like.

"Where to now?" He asks once we're back in the car.

"If you have nothing else planned, then my flat please. I've got a curfew."

"No problem, beautiful."

Jack walks me to my doorstep after our date. "I had a great time. I hope we can do this again sometime."

"Yeah same here.' I smile. Jack leans down, looking from my eyes to my mouth. I know where this is going so I push on his chest.

"I barely know you. Maybe after a couple date, yeah?"

Jack looks down sheepishly. "Of course. Good night, Jessica."

"Good night." I sigh as I open my door, getting ready to be pressed with questions.
