I've Got This Friend

"I'm so tired." Ash whines, laying his head on my shoulder.

"Same." I yawn, complaining with him. "And I've got that English test today."

"Jessica?" Jack calls my name, walking towards me.

"Hi Jack." I smile.

"Uh could I talk to you for a second?" He asks, looking between Ashton and I.

"Sure?" I question more than say. In the corner of my eye, I see Ash roll his eyes and turn a different direction, completely walking away. "What is it?"

"I was wondering, you know, if you wanted to go to dinner with me tomorrow night. As a date."

I blush. "Oh o-okay yeah. That would be fun."

"I'll pick you up at 8?"

"Sounds great." I nod. "I have to go find Ash. I'll see you around, I hope."

Jack smiles and walks away. I cant wipe away the huge grin I has plastered on my mouth. I didn't think I had a crush on Jack, to be honest I still don't think I do. It's the nice gesture that makes me so happy. And I'd like to get to know him better.

"Who's made you so happy?" Cal wonders, walking backwards in front of me.

"Jack actually." I giggle. "He asked me on a date."

"I knew he liked you. Where are you guys going?"

"Oh I don't know. I guess I'm being surprised."

"Where's Ash?"

"I'm trying to find him right now. He walked away when Jack came."

"Somebody's jealous." Calum grins.

"What? No. Ash is like a brother to me."

"That's not the way he feels about you."

"Cal what are you talking about?" I stop walking, needing an explanation.

"Hey there he is!" Calum cheers, patting Ashton on the back, eyeing me as if telling me to shut up.

"Where'd you go?" I ask him.

"Away." He simply answers.

"Okay. Why?"

"Do you have to know everything?" He spats.

"I guess not." I reply to his words of venom. "I guess I'll see you later, I've got that test."

"Hello my date for Friday." Jack grins, blocking the doorway as I'm leaving my English class.

'Does this date for Friday have a name?" I joke.

"Let's see. What's her name? Kayley? Carly?"

"How do you get any of those names from Jessica?"

"Jessica!" Jack slaps his hands together. "That's it!"

As we're walking through the hall, I spot Ashton at his locker. "Ash!" I call for him.

He looks up with a smile, until he sees Jack by my side. Without a word, he turns around. "What's wrong with him?"

"Probably just his mood swings. I'll catch you later, I'm going to go see what's wrong." I wave him off, turning the corner to chase after Ashton.

"Why aren't you with your boyfriend?" He turns around, red faced.

"Ash, he's not my boyfriend. Is that what this is about?"

Ashton opens his mouth to say something, but closes it, only to open it again to say. "Have fun walking home alone."

"Ashton! Come back! Why are you acting like this?" I yell after him, but he doesn't respond.
