I've Got This Friend
Chapter Fourteen
"Jessie c'mon!" Michael yells just as impatient as always. "You've been in there for like an hour already!"
"Mikey, I've only been in here for 15 minutes." I laugh on the other side of the bathroom door.
I hear him sigh heavily and slump down against the wall. Soon enough, I'm done and I step out in my miniskirt and a black crop top, matching my outfit with my lo pro grey Vans. "Don't you look fancy." Luke says eyeing me up and down. Calum nods and Ashton swallows hard, trying to keep from staring at me. Michael on the other hand, rushes past me to claim the bathroom as his own.
"Where's this party at?" I wonder, talking to no one in particular.
"A little way down the street from here." Calum answers.
I nod. "Do you know who's all going to be there?"
"Geez Jess, lighten up a little. It'll be fun." Luke smiles.
"Sorry guys, you know the party scene isn't really my scene." I breath out.
"Well it is tonight, because we're going to party our pants off!" Michael yell talks from behind me.
"If you say so." I mumble as we all file out the door, Ashton walks to my side, climbing in next to me in the car. The whole way there, our knees slightly touching.
...
We arrive at this large house that, to be honest, was walking distance from Ashton's home. Already a bunch of cars and plastic cups lined the driveway, along with the drunken people who already are stumbling around. Michael puts the car in park, as Luke instantly climbs out, getting lost in the crowds. "After you." Ashton puts on that cheeky grin of his as he lets me slide past him.
"Thanks." I giggle.
We look up to find the rest of the boys, but they've already disappeared too. "Looks like its just me and you." He says.
"Seems so." I reply and we make our way inside the thumping house. From outside you could feel the amps vibration on your feet. In here you can feel it all the way in you chest, vibrating even harder when you talk.
"It's so loud in here." I complain, coving my ears with my hands.
"That's kind of the idea of a party." Ashton sarcastically responds. We walk over to the counter where not a lot of people are. The majority of the people were on the dance floor, where you could find the rest of the guys.
A few girls walk past us, smirking at Ashton but he doesn't seem to notice. He pours himself a drink as I sit on the counter watching his actions. "Want one?" He asks.
I shake my head. "I'd rather not."
"Fair enough." He nods in approval.
Time passes and I can tell Ash is getting bored of standing around doing nothing, and the line of girls who keep admiring him keeps getting longer and longer, but still for some reason he still doesn't seem to notice. Maybe he was just ignoring it. "You can go have fun if you want. I'm not going anywhere."
"Wh-" He turns his back and finally acknowledges the waiting girls behind him. "No, Jessie, I'll stay."
"Ash, if you wanna go, go. Have fun." I slightly nudge him.
"You wanna get out of here instead?" He whispers. I nod. I hop off the counter and walk past the now disappointed group of girls.
"Wait, Ash." I stop him, pulling on his arm. "What about the guys?"
"They're occupied." He states and we walk down the sidewalk back to his house.
Like no more than 5 minutes later, we arrive back to Ashton's home. I kick off my shoes and lay down on the couch. Ash drags me back up and pulls me over his shoulder. "What're you doing?" I laugh, as he carries me up the stairs.
"Were going to my room, and we will watch a movie." He claims.
"Are we now?" I rhetorically answer. He places me down on his bed, and I grab the blankets and wrap myself in them. He pops in The Hangover and drapes his arm around me, pulling me in closer.
Time goes by and we're about halfway through the movie when a door slamming, causes us to jump from our places. "What the hell?" Ash whispers more to himself if anything. He gets up and walks to the door and pokes his head in the hallway.
"Why do you have to embarrass me every single time?!" Anne Marie yells at Ash's father.
"Why do you have to do things the hard way?!" He yells back at her.
"Maybe I took the hard way by marring you!" She snarls.
"I couldn't agree more!"
Ashton stands in his doorway dumbstruck listening to the fight. I stay where I am, not knowing what to do. Anne Marie yells out in frustration, "I can't do this anymore!"
"Do what?!"
"I can't be married to such a low life, scum bag like yourself. We're over! I want a divorce!"
Ashton's shoulder's slump and it literally looks like the life was sucked out of him. Finally, we heard the door slam again as someone walked outside, and somebody else walked into a bedroom. I slowly stand up, finally understanding why he didn't want us to come over anymore, and why he's been watching his sibling so much. "Ashton.." I whisper, wrapping him in a hug.
He hugs back so hard, it brings us to the ground, and he uncontrollably sobs into my neck. When I think he's starting to regain some of himself, he latches on tighter. "Please don't let me go." His voice breaks.
"I'm not." I reassure him. "I'm not going anywhere."
And I didn't. I let him cry on me until he had no more tears to cry for the night. I'm pretty sure we stayed like that in the same position for the whole night. I couldn't blame him, I was the same way when my parents were getting a divorce. He healed me in that time of need, now it's my turn to mend him.
