I've Got This Friend
Chapter Thirteen
~Age Seven or Eight~
"Why aren't you playing?" Ashton had asked me a very long time ago. Like when we were at age seven or eight.
"They don't like me." I sniffled.
"I like you. You can play with me if you want."
"Okay." I smiled and took his hand.
~Age 10~
"Ouch." I groaned because I fell and scraped my knee.
"Are you okay?" Ashton asked concerned.
I nodded. "I will be. Thanks."
"Come on let's get you cleaned up. That looks gross."
We giggled as we raced inside.
~Age 12~
"I'm bored." I whined.
"Why?" He wondered.
"There's nothing to do." I shrugged. We were at that age when nothing seemed to please us.
"I know what we can do!"
"What?"
"Follow me."
We walked down to my flat, and Ashton went to my backyard and hooked up the sprinkler that we used to run around in when we were younger.
~Age 14~
"Go away." I huffed.
"It's Ashton." Called a voice on the other side of the door.
I sighed and rolled over to face him. "Everything sucks. Nobody likes me, nobody wants to hang out with me. I'm stupid and ugly. I'm the cause for my mum and dad's divorce."
"No your not. Your an amazing person, and I love you. Everything will fall into place, I promise."
"I love you too, Ashy."
"What are you staring at?" Ashton laughs.
"Oh nothing. I was just remember things from when we first met. You've always been there for me."
"Well you are my best friend."
I slightly laugh, and wrap my arms around his neck. "Never leave me. Never stop being my friend, because I don't know what I'll do without you."
"I'm not going anywhere, Jessica. Best friend or lover, I'll never leave you." Ashton talks into my neck.
"Guys?" Michael comes into the room, eyebrows raised.
"Yeah?" I ask pulling away from Ashton.
"Uh so there's a party tomorrow night, and we're going. We were all going to talk about it together, but we couldn't find you two."
"Oh sorry. But yeah that seems fun." I smile.
I look back at Ashton, but his face looks flushed and very uncomfortable. "Y-yeah it sounds fun. I'm going to go get some air." He stands up and exits the room.
"What's up with him?" Michael wonders.
I shrug. "Don't know. He was fine just a second ago."

"Hey Jessica." Jack surprisingly talks to me today in class.
"Hi Jack." I smile at him.
"So you and Ashton huh?" He gets right to the point.
"What? No we-we're not dating." I stammer.
"Then why did you end it with me?" He says sadly, but there's a hint of anger in his voice.
I swallow the lump down in my throat. "Uh- because- it's hard to explain really."
"You like him though don't you?"
"Will you butt out of my business? I didn't ask you, so leave me alone." I raise my voice at him expectantly.
Jack opens him mouth but closes it, only to open it again. "If you didn't like him, you wouldn't be so defensive." He smirks and walks away.
"Fuck." I curse under my breath. Thankfully the bell rings and I'm able to get out of there.
"Hi." Ashton chirps.
"Hello." I smile at him. "What makes you so happy?"
"Well seeing you." He states bluntly.
I sigh and clutch onto my books as we walk to my locker at the end of the day. "Am I going to your house today?"
His face turns down. "No I'm sorry, I have to watch my siblings."
"And? They like seeing me. What's the harm?"
"Just- you can't come over, okay?"
"Okay." I say quietly.
"Sorry."
"It's it okay." I nod.
"No it's not. I wish it didn't have to be like this because it's tearing me apart. I hate that I have to go through this."
"Ash, what're you talking about?"
Ashton's eyes fog up with water as he blinks rapidly letting a tear fall from his face, which breaks my heart. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Ash-"
"Bye, Jess." He cuts me off.
I sigh for like the millionth time today, and hike my way to my room. What's going on with him and why wont he tell me? Then someone needs to tell me what's wrong with Jack.
