Another Way

Chapter 1

It's just any typical day in a prison. We get up, work, eat, and sleep. Then repeat. same old boring routine. When is it going to change?

Right now, it's the end of the day, and all of the prisoners are in the cafeteria eating their dinner. The food sucks, and it doesn't even look real.

Half of the time, the prisoners have a hard time digesting the foul food. Everyday, there is always that one person that ends up getting food poisoning.

This place is disgusting!

I look to my only friend in this place, Izabelle, and see that she just pushed her food aside. She never liked the food, but then again, who did?

Everyone turned their heads as the big metal doors opened up to reveal fresh meat.

She had long brown hair and blue eyes. She was so small. She looked about Izabelle and I's age, maybe younger. She looked so innocent and scared. Why is she even in here? What's her story?

I watched her walk to an empty table not even bothered to grab a plate of food.

She just looked so sad and lonely.

Gosh I remember when I was in her position. It was horrible. Everyone just hated me on the spot, and I didn't even get a chance to say a word. They just cursed at me, scream at me, and they even beat me up. I never fought back too afraid that it would make everything worst.

One beating a month turned into 3 beatings a week. Then it just became a daily hobby for them.

Then, one day I was just so fed up with the beatings that I challenged the toughest girl prisoner here to a fight and she accepted. I was beyond scared to fight her, but I did, and I won.

No one ever bothered to even look at me again.

I looked at the new girl again and thought that maybe she could use a friend. I just felt the need to protect her and guide her, so I turned away and looked at Izabelle.

I told her to follow me, and she just rolled her eyes.

She followed me over to the new girl's table and gave me a look of 'what are you doing'. I just ignored her and sat down. She rolled her eyes and did the same.

The new girl gave us a confused look asking why we're here. Izabelle ignored her and played with her nails and I just smiled.

"Hi. I'm Liz and this is Izabelle." The new girl just nodded her head and looked down.

"What's your name?" I asked.

She didn't answer right away, and I was starting to think she was ignoring us, so I gestured to Izabelle for us to leave.

As we were getting up, she sighed and finally answered.

"The name's Caroline." I sat back down and Izabelle rolled her eyes but did the same.

"Why are you guys here?" She asked looking at me only.

"We-"

"You" Izabelle interrupted. I rolled my eyes.

"WE wanted to welcome you because no one else in this place will." She nodded.

"Oh. Well thanks, but I don't think this place is welcoming. I mean, it is a prison after all."

She played with her hands while Izabelle secretly laughed to herself and mumbled something I couldn't comprehend.

So she has a little sass in her.

"What are you in for? What did you do?"

Maybe she's in here for back talking a cop.

"I poured hot coffee on a cop on purpose and then slapped him. He pissed me off. So he arrested me, and I got sentenced to 5 years in here because apperantly that's disrespect and you're not allowed to do that, but it's whatever. He deserved it."

Damn this girl is a rebel. Ehh. She could've done worst.

Izabelle scoffed and went back to playing with he nails.

"Well damn. What did he do?"

"Um he-"

She didn't even get to finish her story because we heard the whistle meaning that dinner is ready and we have to go back to our cells.

"That's our signal for us to go. Let's go." Izabelle said yanking my arm.

"No I want to walk Caroline to her cell"

I pulled my arm out of Izabelle's grip and moved around the table to be next to Caroline.

"What cell number are you?"

Izabelle just stood there watching us and glaring at Caroline. Caroline seemed uneasy and looked away from Izabelle and looked down.

"107"

That's across from Izabelle and I's cell. Izabelle only crossed her arms and rolled her eyes.
I walked her to her cell with Izabelle following behind, but she kept her distance away from Izabelle.

As we walked pasted the other cells, it didn't go unnoticed that every other inmate were glaring at me, but they wouldn't dare say a word to me or anyone I hang around with which is basically Izabelle. Now it will be Caroline.

Even if I wasn't there for Izabelle, no one would dare go near her either. She's one bad ass girl.
Basically, we protect each other.

As we were walking, I told Caroline who she should stay away from and that she shouldn't worry about anyone trying to muder or rape her in her sleep because they saw her with me and won't even bother to look at her.

I dropped her off at her cell and walked across the hall to my cell after I told her goodnight. Izabelle was already in her bunk.

The bunks are so uncomfortable.

I said goodnight to Izabelle and went to sleep before Izabelle could reply.
Not like she was going to respond anyway. She was already asleep.
