One Direction Short Stories

Love of the Game - Niall

Between going to college at NYU and interning at the Yankees front office, I have hardly any free time for myself. That’s why this summer I decided not to take any classes and just focus on the intern job. I’m majoring in sports management/marketing. Landing this intern position with the Yankees has been such a blessing. It’s going to look great on my resume. Best of all, I get to watch baseball all summer from any seat I want in the park.
“Good Morning, Becca.”
“Morning Laura. I brought you some coffee.” I hand it to her with a smile. It’s always good to suck up to your boss. Then you don’t get the shit assignments.
“Oh thank you, Becca. I really need this.” She pauses to take a sip. “We have a VIP guest coming that I need you to take good care of.”
“Sure. Who is it?” I ask casually.
Laura refers to her paperwork. “Niall Horan, from the band One Direction.”
I smile and say. “Oh, ok.” However on the inside I’m screaming like a school girl. I love One Direction’s music and I have a pretty severe obsession with the gorgeous Irish one.
“When is he coming?” I ask.
“Tomorrow nights game. I need you to give him a tour of the stadium, tell him a bit of the history, the usual.” Laura says.
“Of course, no problem.” I reply.
“I would also like you to stay in the suite with him during the game. He’s not from America, so he may have some questions about the details of baseball.” Laura says.
I smile. “You know I love to do that.”

I spend the next morning getting pampered. Hair, nails, make-up, new outfit, everything. I just hope I can pull off being professional tonight.
I look in the mirror one last time before heading to the stadium. I don’t normally spend this much time getting ready, but I’m happy with my look. I think my black jeans and fitted Jeter jersey look nice without looking like I tried too hard.
I’m waiting not so patiently at the entrance to the stadium for Niall’s car to arrive.
Oh crap, here he comes. I keep repeating in my head, be professional, be professional.
As he walks towards me all I can think is how he’s even more handsome in person. I put out my hand. “Hello, Mr. Horan. I’m Becca. I’ll be showing you around.”
He takes my hand. “Hello, Becca. That’s a pretty name. Please call me Niall.”
That adorable accent!
I spend the next hour or so showing him around and filling him in on the history of the team and the former Yankee Stadium. I thought I’d feel more nervous, but he’s so nice, he makes me feel at ease. He asks me lots of questions. Like when I show him all the retired numbers, he asks. “Won’t they run out of numbers to use soon?”
I smile. “That’s something we all wonder actually.”
Niall lets out one of his famous big laughs. My heart skips a beat.

I show Niall to his private suite before the game starts. “If you’d like, I can stay in case you have any questions about the game.” I ask hesitantly. Please say yes!
Niall smiles and looks right into my eyes. “I’d like that, Becca.”
I smile, unable to speak at the moment. “So you’re a bit of an expert, are ya?” Niall asks me.
I blush. “Well I love all sports, but baseball is my passion. I do know pretty much everything there is to know about it.”
“That’s incredible. I haven’t met too many girls who like sports that much. I’m a bit of a sports nut myself.”
Even though I already know I ask Niall about his favorite sports and teams. I love the way he gets so excited when he talks about it. Finally someone who understands my sports obsession.

The games about to start so Niall takes a seat. I answer a quick phone call from Laura, then I sit in a seat a couple away from Niall.
He looks over at me and smirks. “You can sit next to me, I don’t bite.” Then he winks.
Honestly, I think I passed out for a second. I cautiously get up, not trusting my legs to support me, and move to the seat beside him.
He pats my knee. “That’s better.” He says with the sweetest smile.
Once my breathing returns to normal, I give Niall a short bio on all the players. He has some questions on the rules. I get so into talking about baseball and watching the game, that I just relax and enjoy spending time with Niall. I’m normally shy, except when I’m watching baseball. When Teixeira hits a three run homer, I jump up out of my seat screaming and clapping.
As Teixeira crosses home, I look over at Niall. He’s standing beside me, clapping, staring at me with a huge smile. I blush. “Sorry, I get really into it.”
Niall puts his hand on my upper arm and leans in, quietly saying. “Don’t ever apologize for being passionate about something.” He pulls back, while rubbing my arm.

I’ve got to be honest, I have never prayed so hard for a game to go extra innings. Anything to spend extra time with Niall.
During the seventh inning stretch, Niall asks me. “Becca, I’m here in New York for a while still. Any chance you could get me tickets for the rest of the week?”
I smile. “Of course Niall. I’ll take care of it right now.” I pull out my phone.
He touches my hand to pause me. “There’s one condition I have though.”
“Sure, what is it Niall?” I ask.
Niall grins. “You have to join me. Please?”
Ok, this is too good to be true. “I’d love to, Niall.”

Unfortunately the game doesn’t go extra innings, but I do get to spend extra time with Niall. “Hey Becca, do you have to be somewhere or can you hang with me here for awhile? It’s best if I wait till most everyone leaves. Otherwise I have to leave early and I hate leaving sporting events early.”
“I can hang with you as long as you’d like.” I tell him.
Niall looks nervous. “You don’t have a boyfriend waiting for you at home?”
I’m shaking. “No, no boyfriend.”
Niall grins. He actually looks happy. Is it possible that he really likes me? I try my best not to stutter. “Do you have a girlfriend?”
Niall visibly relaxes. Looking relieved that I want to know this. He smiles. “No, no girlfriend.”
I let out a sigh, relieved.
We sit in the suite for an hour talking sports. When Niall gets a call that his car is here, I reluctantly walk him out.
At the vehicle he takes my hand in his. “Thank you. I had a great time tonight, Becca. I can’t wait to see you tomorrow night.”
“I had a great time too Niall. I look forward to tomorrows game with you.”

The next few games with Niall are amazing. Each night we watch the game together from the suite. Our conversations are relaxed. We seem to be so comfortable with each other. Niall touches me often when he speaks to me. His hand on my knee, or on my arm. Sometimes it seems as though he wants to kiss me, yet he always holds back.
Tonight is the fifth game we are watching together. “So, Niall, I’ve come to realize you must be a good luck charm. The Yankees haven’t lost a game since you started coming.”
Niall laughs and winks. “Luck of the Irish!”
I laugh.
“I have a couple questions for you, Becca.”
“Sure, what?”
“Well, first off, why do the Yankees not have their names on the back of their jerseys, yet the other team does?”
“Tradition. They are an elite team and figure everyone should know who they are.” I reply.
“Alright. A bit cocky perhaps, but understandable.”
I laugh. “What was your second question?”
Niall looks nervous. “Can I take you out for a late dinner after the game?”
Not the question I was expecting. I look Niall in his endless blue eyes. “Yes. I’d love that.”
Niall grins and takes my hand in his. We return to watching the game, Niall never letting go of my hand.

After the game, Niall takes me to a cute little restaurant. At this hour the place is mostly empty. Our conversations now seem effortless. As though we’ve known each other for years. Niall eats everything on his plate, and half of what’s on mine.
After dinner we stop for a coffee and then head to my place.
“Sorry, it’s pretty small. It’s all I can afford here.” I tell him, slightly embarrassed by my very small apartment.
“No, it’s nice Becca. I especially love all the sports memorabilia.” He pauses, then laughs. “Reminds me of my house.”
I smile. I should feel nervous having Niall here, but I don’t. It truly surprises me how comfortable I feel around him.
“Well the apartment is small, but I have this amazing balcony.” I say as I head out the door, Niall following.
“It has an incredible view.” I say looking around at the city. Then I look at Niall. He’s looking at me, not the city. “Yes, it does.” He says before putting his hand in my hair and leaning down to kiss me.
I feel the butterflies in my stomach take flight as NIall’s lips meet mine. His kisses are sweet and gentle. He pauses to look in my eyes. “Was that ok?”
I grin. “Oh that was way more than ok!”
Niall cackles before moving in to kiss me again. This time the kisses are more aggressive. His tongue forcefully making it’s way to mine. As he explores my mouth, I become more brave. I unbutton his shirt, and trail my hands over his chest before removing it.
Niall pauses, looks deep in my eyes. As he lightly touches my face he asks. “Are you sure, Becca? We can wait if you aren’t ready. Well...I can try to wait, anyway.” He winks.
I smile. Can he be any more sweet and adorable? “I’ve never been more sure of anything. I don’t want to wait, I want to be with you Niall.” I take his hand and lead him to the bedroom.
We take our time, slowly undressing. Exploring every inch of the others bodies until we can take no more. As Niall kisses my neck I am overwhelmed by how good he smells. I run my fingers through his fluffy hair as he hovers above me.
Our rhythm slow and steady, then increasing in speed till we go over the edge together. I moan out his name, as he yells out mine. He kisses me sweetly on my forehead before laying down beside me and gathering me into his arms. I lay my head on his chest, listening to his rapid heartbeat.
Niall whispers in my ear. “Where have you been all my life, B?”
I smile against his bare chest. “Right here waiting for you, Irish.”

The next morning I wake up in Niall’s arms. I kiss him on the cheek to wake him. His eyes fluttering open to reveal the kind, blue orbs that take my breath away every time. ‘Good morning my beautiful Becca.”
I smile. “Good morning. We have a game to get to.”
Niall makes a quick phone call then suggests we shower together to save time. Obviously I agree completely.

In our usual suite at Yankee Stadium, Niall wraps his arms around my waist from behind. Resting his chin on my shoulder. Again, he smells so good!
“Well you’ve done it, B.” He tells me.
“What have I done?” I ask innocently.
“You’ve turned me into a huge baseball fan. It’s so much better than cricket.” He confesses.
I laugh.
“You know what else you’ve done?” He asks me.
I turn around in his embrace to face him. “What?”
He places his hand in my hair, the other still around my waist. “You’ve made me fall for you, hard!
I’m not normally the emotional type, but my eyes sparkle with tears. “I’m glad to hear that, Irish. Cause I’ve fallen pretty hard for you too. And now that you love baseball, well you are irresistable.”
Niall cackles. That adorable, loud, endearing laugh of his. “Speaking of irresistible...I don’t think I can wait nine innings to be with you.”
I smirk. “The suite door locks and that corner over there is pretty secluded.”
“I like how you think, Babe.” Niall takes my hand and walks me to the door. We lock it then move over to the corner. He sits in the chair and guides me to straddle him. He’s kissing and biting my neck. I try to be quiet, but it feels so good. I start moving on him in a way that causes him to moan and start ripping at my clothes. We undress just as much as we need to. We make love right there in a suite at Yankee Stadium.
I bite his shoulder to contain my scream and Niall buries his mouth in my neck to contain his.
We dress quickly. Both of us with huge grins on our faces. I wrap my arms around
Niall’s neck. “Thank you for fulfilling a fantasy for me.” I tell him.
He smirks. “Sex in a ballpark, aye?”
I blush and nod my head.
Niall laughs. “Well I hope that’s a recurring fantasy.”

Niall and I indulge that fantasy at the next game as well. Then the team goes on a road trip. Niall and I both have a few days off. We barely leave my apartment. We spend our time cuddling while watching sports, talking, and making love.
We are having so much fun. I don’t want to think about the future, but it gnaws at me. Niall knows something is on my mind.
“Look, I know it won’t be easy. You’ve got school here, and I have a crazy schedule. I do know though that we will find a way to make it work. I don’t want to lose you, B.” Niall tells me, his eyes full of honest emotion.
“I don’t want to lose you either, Irish. I’ve never felt this way before. Promise me we will do whatever it takes to make this work.”
Niall entwines his fingers with mine and squeezes. “I promise, Babe.”
He pauses then whispers in my ear. “Ya got anymore fantasies you’d like to share with me?”
I smirk. “Well actually yes. It involves you, a baseball uniform, and the clubhouse at Yankee Stadium.”
