Everything I Didn't Say

Chapter 2

I nervously pace through my bedroom, peering out the windows, as I wait for this new family of ours. To say I was nervous was an understatement. I'm not sure what you could call what I was feeling. It was a mixture of nervousness, scared, and curiosity, but times all that my like 5. I've always been bad with meeting new people, but this time I have to really try to not make a fool of myself in front of everyone. It's kinda like it all depends on me.

"Addy our family is here!" Shelby calls from downstairs. I quickly look out the window just to make sure that it's real.

I swallow hard as my hands start shaking, taking in a deep breath to do this. "There you are, dear. It will be okay. They're our new family, there's nothing to be afraid of, yeah?" Mum rubs my back, pushing me out the door first.

I rapidly breath in and out, in and out, trying to regulate my breathing. You may wonder why I'm making such a big deal out of meeting new people, because most people would be like, 'Oh cool I'm about to make another friend!' but not me. I'm not like most people. I'm weird. Outcast. I'm not socially accepted.

As my family gathers around me, I watch as three people make their way out of the large pathfinder and approach us. "Liz! Hi!" Mum squeals, waving.

"Hello, Rose. It's nice seeing you again!" Liz exclaims, pulling mum into a hug. "I can't think you enough for you taking my family in under you wing."

Mum laughs. "This is Caleb, my nephew, Shelby, my adopted daughter, and Adeline, my birth daughter." she points at all of us. Everyone says their hi's and hey's, but me. I wave sheepishly.

"It's nice to meet all of you." She pauses, turning around to find her relatives. "Luke! Andrew!" Liz calls.

That name. Nah. No. But. My heart stops beating, I lose my hearing, my limbs go weak. All my senses wash away, except for the one I'd like to not have at this time: My eyesight.

"Addy." Caleb nudges me.

I look up and find the person that I despise the most in life. The one and only Luke Hemmings. "Are you going to say hi?" Luke asks, amused, playing with a lip ring. He says it in a polite manner, but the way he looks at me. That look in his eyes. That's the same look that he gave me all throughout high school.

"Urm..H-hi" I stutter, barely looking in his crystal blue eyes.

"I'm Luke. In case you didn't hear me." I look up at him for the first time in two years. What? He doesn't remember me? Of course he does. That look in his eye said it all.

"I-I'm Adeline. Um or Addy."

"Nice to meet you."

"Let's go inside, shall we? We'll help you unpack." Dad offers, as the Hemmings family lead the way.

"What was that?" Shelby whisper yells, as Caleb nods waiting for an explanation. I just shake my head, falling behind in the group.

"Caleb why don't you go help Luke with his things. Marcus, you can help Andrew, and me and the girls will help Liz." Mum orders.

"So how old are you, Adeline?" Liz questions.

"Oh I'm 20. How old- er never mind." Gah I'm so stupid. You don't ask an older lady her age.

"You and Luke are the same age actually." She gleams.

"Are we?" I mock amazement.

~xx~

After a while of unpacking, and breaking, the going back to work, Caleb left because he wanted to see his friends, and the same goes for Shelby. Mum and Liz are in their own little world, and Dad took Andrew to go see this part of the town.

I stand alone awkwardly for a moment, and seeing that nobody was paying attention to me, I could easily sneak out. I gasp as I open their front door to see Luke there. "Leaving so soon?"

"Uh it's getting dark." I mumble.

"I can walk you." He offers. I shake my head, but he takes my arm in his and lead the way.

Anger builds up, and I harshly tear away from him. "What do you think you doing?" I question loudly, trying to sound vibrant, cause inside I'm dyeing.

"Walking you home?" He raises an eyebrow, looking at me like I've lost my mind.

"No Luke. I know you remember me. Remember how you used to knock me down in the hallways? How you used to spread rumors about me? How you would talk down to me, and make me feel like utter shit everyday?"

He suspiciously looks around. "I'm sorry I dunno what your talking about. Maybe your mistaking me with another person?"

I dryly laugh. "No Hemmings. I know exactly what I'm talking about. And I know you do too."

"See you tomorrow? Maybe we can hangout. I can let you meet some of my friends."

I roll my eyes, shaking my head and entering my door. "Later Anderson." He calls. I stop dead in my tracks, but don't turn around. 'Anderson' is what he used to call me in high school.
