- HARRY -

"She doesn't have anywhere to go does she?" Louis muttered aloud. Neither Zayn nor I responded.

Katrina pulled her backpack closer to her body as she set off down the street. She didn't look back once as she walked and I marveled at how she could be so brave. How could someone who had so little in life be so full of optimism? Was it natural for a homeless teen to turn down shelter?

"Do you think it was safe to give her your number?" Zayn voiced after a minute.

I frowned, still watching Katrina disappear into the Los Angeles haze. "What, you think she'd give it away?"

"More like sell it to the highest bidder," scoffed Louis.

I shook my head. "No she wouldn't do that. I don't even think she knows who we are."

"That's humbling," mused Louis.

We fell into silence and I was too depressed to even start the car. I couldn't figure out why I was feeling this way. We had helped her. We had fed her, bailed her out of jail, and given her money. So why did I still feel so guilty?

"No." I muttered mostly to myself as I shook my head and started the car. "We're not just leave her like that."

"Fucking hell its about time," Louis sighed before climbing into the front seat. "I thought I was going to have to be the one to say it."

Zayn let out a laugh as I pulled away from the curb and headed the direction where we last saw Katrina.

"She can't have gotten that far," Louis said as I crawled down the block.

"There! Down that street!" Cried Zayn.

I made a hard right and pulled up so I was driving next to the beautiful blonde as she walked. Louis rolled down the window and called, "need a lift?"

"Fuck off." She replied without even glancing in our direction.

"Oi! That's no way to talk to the people who just saved your ass!"

Her head snapped up and she turned to stare at us, completely stunned. "What are you-"

"Kat, we can't just leave you on the street."

"She narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "You were just about to. Why the change of heart?"

"Because it freaked us out that you were actually okay with it," replied Louis. "Now come on, get in."

"I'm not getting in."

Louis gasped dramatically while Zayn and I shared a panicked look. Katrina continued to walk slowly next to the car.

"Katrina B-something. Get in this car or I'll drag you in." Threatened Louis. Zayn whacked him on the shoulder. It we were going to get Katrina back in this car, it had to be on her own terms.

"Get out of that car Louis, and I will scream."

"You would not."

"Hell yeah I would," she laughed. "That's kidnapping!"

"Please just get in the car?" He begged.

"Where would we go?" She asked.

"Back to my place," I called from the drivers seat. Even from here I could see the look she shot me. "Look I have an extra bedroom you can crash in until you get back on your feet."

"And if you don't want to do that, we'll pay for a hotel," added Zayn. Louis and I both nodded in agreement and she let out a sigh before coming to a halt. We all knew she had nowhere to go and that our offer was too good to pass up.

"Do you fucks always get what you want?" She huffed.

"Is that the only reason why you won't come?" I countered. She stood there for a moment contemplating our offer and for a split second I thought she might walk away. But instead she let out another sigh and climbed in. The boys and I let out cheers as she rolled her eyes.

"Home again home again jiggidy jig," I sang to myself as I began driving back towards my place.

"Here."

Louis and I looked down to Katrina's outstretched arm to see her holding out the $50. Wait. Was she seriously trying to give us the money back?

"Don't be silly," Louis replied. She narrowed her eyes and threw the money into his lap. Then two then engaged in a silent battle playing hot potato with the cash.

"Oi! You are distracting the driver!" I called in attempt to stop them.

"Katie are you hungry at all?" Zayn asked, successfully ending the silent war.

"I'm okay."

I looked into the rear view mirror and met Katrina's eye. How could she not be hungry? The last meal she had was pancakes at midnight last before she was whisked away to prison for nearly sixteen hours.

"Well I'm starving," I replied. "We'll make a feast when we get home."

I watched as Katrina broke into a little smile before turning to face out the window. The rest of the drive was filled with Louis and Zayn's conversation while Katrina and I remained silent.

I couldn't help but want to know more about this girl. She was in a desperate situation yet refused help. Why? Was it because she didn't want our charity? Was it because of who we were? But she didn't even know who we were, and if she did she didn't let on. And, not to sound arrogant, but how has she not heard of us? We've worked our asses off to become internationally known musicians. Maybe she only knew the name and not our faces. That must be it.

"Zayn are you mad? LA just as good as London!" Cried Louis as we pulled into the driveway. I hadn't even realized the two had begun arguing.

"I mean yeah it's a nice vacation, but it's not like we have any good friends out here," Zayn countered as we stepped out of the car. "Besides its too hot."

"Too hot!" Louis scoffed. "Don't tell me you actually prefer the 360 days of rain London usually gets."

Katrina turned to me with a frown as we headed up the front walk. "Do they always-?"

"Yeah," I laughed. "Don't worry though, it's just a bit of friendly banter."

Louis pushed open the unlocked door and a round of screams met us. Katrina flinched at the sudden eruption and I grabbed her shoulders gently to steady her.

"Bout time ya got home!" Cried the blonde Irishman. "Hope ya don't mind but we ordered da pizza without ya cause ya was takin too long."

"Did you order some for us?" Louis asked as he dropped down onto the couch.

"Yeah," scoffed Niall as if Louis had just asked the dumbest question in the world. I let out a laugh at my friend and turned to Katrina. She was staring fixated at the room in front of her, no doubt wondering what exactly she had gotten herself into.

"You want to set your bag down?" I asked Katrina. She shook her head, while continuing to stare at Niall and Liam. Niall turned and his eyes fell on Katrina for the first time.

"Hello," he smiled before turning to Louis. "Who's she?"

Liam rolled his eyes as Louis gave Katrina a smile. "That's Kat. She's the girl we told you about."

I looked down to see Katrina gripping her backpack straps so tight her knuckles had gone white.

"Here c'mon Katrina," I said, taking her arm gently. "I'll show you the guest bedroom."

She bit her lip before nodding slowly. I led her upstairs to the right and brought her into one of the rooms overlooking the ocean. As she stepped in the room she let out a small gasp at the sight.

"There's a full bathroom through that door there and the door to the patios over here," I said dumbly.

"So this is more of a guest suite than a room..." she smirked before wandering towards the wall of windows and sitting down on the kind sized bed. She pretended to look out on the view, but I could practically see the wheels turning in her head.

"Yeah I guess you could say that," I laughed. "D-do you like it?"

"Like it?" She let out a small laugh in disbelief. "This is...thank you Harry."

For a split second I had thought she was going to call me out on my wealth again. But she seemed to have thought better of it and I was grateful for the genuine smile she gave me.

"You can stay as long as you need," I added.

She pursed her lips, "you know you don't have to do this."

"I want to."

"Why?"

I froze, not really sure how to respond. When I didn't speak her frown deepened even further. Why did I have to have a reason?

"What game are you all playing?"

"Game?" I frowned. What in the world was she talking about? "We're not playing any ga-"

"Why did you bring me here?" She rephrased, rolling her eyes. "What do you want?"

"I don't want anything," I shrugged. She looked at me in suspicion as the stormy blue eyes tried to read me.

"Everyone wants something Harry," she replied. What did that mean? Does she really think we would hurt her or try to take advantage of her or something?

"Okay. I want to help." I sat down on the bed next to her. She scooted slightly away and turned so she could see me head on. "I want to help you even if you're too stubborn to admit you need it."

Katrina stared at me. Those stormy grey eyes flickering between mine, waiting for me to give something away. There was a burst of laugher from downstairs and she immediately turned to look at the door.

"That's my cue," I smiled before standing up. "I'll let you get settled and call up when the pizza's here."

Katrina nodded and as I headed towards the door. Before I left I turned back to see her looking out the large wall of windows again.

"You know you can trust us right?" I added. "We're not going to hurt you."

"Well would you look at that...millionaire who is not a douchebag.” She broke into a smirk and I couldn't help but let out a laugh.

"Looks like miracles do happen!" I cried before heading out the door.

this story is perfection! i adore every single little thing you've done with it. you're easily my favorite writer on the site. can't wait for more.

I totally understand I'm going to school and only check for updates once I have all homework or studying done so it's very unlikely that I have free time. I still love the story even if u don't update very often.
