Don't Let Me Go ~ N.H.

Chapter 16

New York, Niall’s POV

I was woken up at five in the morning by my cell phone ringing. Curious, I picked up. “Hello?” I said groggily.

“Niall, it’s Mr. Jennings. Carlie’s been in a bad accident. You’d better get to Dublin as soon as you can,” the male voice said on the other line.

I nearly dropped the phone. “Is she alright? Are the kids alright?”

“Aubrey and the kids are alright, but Carlie took it the worst. She’s in a coma, and they don’t think she’ll make it.”

“We’ll be on the next flight there.” I hung up.

Harry’s POV

I listened in on what I could of Niall’s phone conversation. I didn’t know what he was talking about, but it sounded bad. When he hung up, he looked like he was about to cry. “What’s wrong, mate? You look like you’re about to cry,” I said.

“Carlie was in a bad accident, and they don’t think she’ll make it,” Niall said.

“Is Aubrey alright? I know she was with her.”

“Yes, she’s fine. It’s just Carlie.”

Dublin, Aubrey’s POV

Lee, April, and I waited in the hospital for two hours. I’d only gotten a broken arm out of the ordeal, Ariel had a broken leg, and Rebekah needed stitches in her head, but Carlie took it pretty hard.

We were about to leave for lunch when Dr. Berwick finally showed up. “Aubrey Jennings?” he addressed me.

“How’s my sister?” I asked.

“She just came out of surgery, but she’s still in critical condition. You may go see her; she’s in the ICU.”

“Okay, thanks.”

We all went to the ICU to see Carlie, and once we got there, I knew Niall wouldn’t like what he saw. Carlie was hooked up to a heart monitor, a breathing machine, and an IV. Her left leg was in traction, and there was a bandage around her head.

“Oh, Carlie! Please don’t die! You’re my best friend and sister, and The Southern Belles would be nothing without you! It would just be me!” I spilled out.

“Mama?!” Rebekah said.

“Yeah, that’s your mama. She’s hurt right now.”

Rebekah burst into tears, and I rubbed her back to calm her down. “I know! Let’s go see your sister! Wanna go see your sister?”

Rebekah nodded, tears still running down her face.

After Lee kissed Carlie on the forehead, he, April, and I went to Dublin Children’s to see Ariel.

“Hi, we’re here to see Ariel Jennings,” I said to the receptionist.

“She’s in room 346, love,” she said.

“Thanks.” The four of us took an elevator to the third floor and went to room 346. I knocked on the door, and a nurse let us in.

“You’ve got visitors, love,” she said to Ariel.

“Mama?” Ariel said.

“No, it’s Aunt Aubrey and your grandparents. Your mama’s in the hospital,” I said.

“I WANT MAMA!” Ariel burst into tears.

“I know, love. I know,” April said, kissing her forehead.

“Your daddy’s gonna be here soon, though,” Lee added.

“Otay!”
