Through the Dark

Chapter 29

I didn’t sleep much last night. I was in Liam’s bed, but without him in it, I was lost. It’s been 24 hours since I’ve seen him. Feels like an eternity though.
I try to help out Agnes at the front desk, I’m finding it hard to focus. Agnes suggests that I go for a walk while she checks in our new guests.
I step outside and see the open spot where Liam’s car should be. I sigh. As I walk through the garden I am reminded of times with Liam. In our short amount of time together we have created so many amazing memories. I look down to see a spot where the grass is missing. The very spot where Liam fell during the storm, taking me down with him. My mind goes to the shower we took together to rid ourselves of all that mud. My heart skips a beat picturing Liam standing in that shower, the mud running off his perfect body.
I move on, and come to the rose bush that held the lone rose after the storm. The beautiful rose that Liam gave me. I see that the bush has two new blooms. Should I look at that as a sign of hope for Liam and I?
I continue on to my favorite place. The wisteria archway. As I walk under it I smile for the first time in 24 hours. I remember showing this to Liam on his first day here. I laugh, remembering myself hearing the wedding march as we walked under it together. So silly. Yet today, it no longer seems silly. Today, I realize that is something I want. I can’t imagine ever being with another man besides Liam. I have come to a realization. I have fallen in love with Liam Payne. I sit down on the bench under the archway. Holy crap. I am in love with Liam. What if he doesn’t love me? What if he doesn’t come back to me. At that thought, the tears flow freely now. I try to wipe them away, but I can’t keep up.
“Such a beautiful girl, shouldn’t shed so many tears.”
I turn to see Liam standing at the entry of the archway. So handsome. “Liam!” I run into his open arms. He hugs me so hard, kissing the top of my head.
“It breaks my heart that I am the cause of your tears.” Liam whispers to me.
I pull back slightly to look in his eyes, to make sure I’m not dreaming this. He gently wipes away my tears. “Liam you aren’t the cause of my tears. The thought of being without you, is the reason I was crying.
His eyes sparkle with moisture as he tries to explain. “Lexi, I’m so sorry love. Please forgive me.”
I gently lay my hand alongside his face. As I look into his eyes I say. “Come sit down,
let’s talk.” I take his hand and lead him to the bench. “Lexi, I shouldn’t have stayed away from you. I was just overwhelmed yesterday.” He pauses. “When I saw the pictures he took and the letter he wrote you.” Liam takes a moment. I see the anger and concern in his eyes. I squeeze his hand and he continues. “I knew I would do anything to protect you, anything.”
I rub his hand with my thumb. He takes a deep breath. “It was just something I’ve never felt before, and it scared me. I was overwhelmed by how much I felt for you, by how much I wanted to protect you. Then I realized being without you was worse. Lexi when I first arrived here, and walked in the door and saw you, it’s like the clouds hovering over me lifted.”
I smile. “Liam, I’m so happy I made you feel that way, because you did the same for me.” I tell him.
“Lexi, I’m sorry I didn’t come back or answer your calls. Will you please forgive me love?”
“Of course Liam. Just promise me that in the future we will work out these kinds of things together. I missed you terribly.”
Liam smiles. “I promise.” He leans in and kisses me. A desperate, passionate kiss. His tongue urgently moving with mine. Liam pulls back and grins. “In case you couldn’t already tell, I missed you a lot.”
I smile. “I missed your mouth on mine, and your body lying beside me.” I wink.
Liam whispers in my ear. “Maybe we should go to my room and take care of that?” He pauses and with puppy dog eyes and a pout says. “If you’ll still have me that is?”
I stare into his eyes and raise my eyebrows. “Oh I’ll have you alright.” I tell him.
He laughs. “I’ve missed you so much, Lexi.”
I put my hand dangerously high on his thigh. “Let’s go make up for lost time.”
