Quit Playing Games With My Heart

*Dakota’s POV*

Oh, God.

“Hey guys!” Harry shouted to the crowd.

Oh, God.

The boys were on stage. Each standing next to each other. Except for Louis, he was sitting on a stood. “I’m Harry.”

“I’m Liam.”

“I’m Niall!”

“I’m Zayn.”

“I’m Louis!”

Oh, God.

“And we’re…” Harry started and together with the rest of the guys, they finished, “One Direction!”

Screams were let out. It was so loud. I watched the boys as they waved at their fans. Harry went over to stand by Louis, putting an arm over him, “Poor Louis hurt himself going down the stairs. He sprained his ankle in the process.”

The crowd screamed, a way of showing sympathy and asking if he was okay. “I’m fine, though.” Louis said, waving at his fans, “I can still sing.”

I had his crutches right beside me. Kariann and I were standing side-by-side, ready for the concert to start. When it did, we couldn’t help but scream along with the fans. Their first song choice was to get the crowd going. Kiss You: one of our other favorite songs was being played and sung.

I looked over, wanting to share my enjoyment with Kariann, but she had this annoyed look on her face as she stared at her phone. I sighed, grabbing her phone out of her hand and I started to call him. “Dakota, what are you doing?”

I held up a finger. I heard him answer, “Hello?”

I held out the phone, the concert loud enough to ring through the phone. I did that for a couple of seconds before yelling into the phone, “You hear that, Stewart? That’s having fun! Get off your ass and do something!”

I cut him off them and made a show of shutting off her phone. “You don’t let that bastard ruin your fun, Kariann. Enjoy your night.”

I handed back her phone and it was enough to put a smile on her face. “He’s going to be mad.”

“Who cares? Be a rebel.” I grinned at her.

She grinned, turning her head back to the concert. We rocked out until it was time for them to change. Kariann and I gave Louis a sympathetic look as Zayn and Niall helped him off the stage. I handed him his crutches. The pain was still apparent on his face. “Louis?” I asked, “Are you sure you’re okay?”

He nodded, “I’ll be fine. The concert is only for a few hours anyways.”

He went along, trying to hurry so they can do their next set of songs. It took a while, but the fans didn’t care. Strange how patient they were. Oh well, just seeing the guys was enough to make them forgive them. That was it, just me and Kariann watching the guys sing for two hours straight. It was fun, especially the little comments they had as they spoke to us for a brief moment after sets.

The concert ended quicker than we wanted, but it didn’t matter. We were the two luckiest girls out of millions of fans who get to hang out with the guys. So what we did, we sat in the lounge snacking on some food. Niall was already complaining, “I want Nandos.”

“You won’t get that until we get home, Niallers.” Liam said to his friend, sticking a grape in his mouth.

Niall pouted and continued to eat his strawberries. I shook my head at him. I knew that was Niall’s favorite restaurant but I’ve never been there. I don’t even think America has that restaurant anyways. I felt my phone start to vibrate. I brought it out. It was my mother again. What the hell, three calls in one day? That was a record. I barely called her once a week. I pressed the ‘ignore’ button and stuck it back in my pocket.

Kariann saw what I did, but didn’t say anything. The other guys were too engrossed into their own conversations, not even seeing that I brought. At least, that was what I thought until I felt a head peek over beside me. “You okay?”

I looked over, seeing Louis with his leg stretched out in front of him. I forgot he was sitting right next to me and even then he was quiet. I shrugged, “I’m fine.”

“Wasn’t someone calling your phone? Shouldn’t you answer?”

“Hey, Lou. Why don’t we go get you changed out of those clothes?” Liam asked suddenly.

Did he just come to my aid? Louis agreed at the suggestion and moved to get up. Liam looked back at me, doing a wink. Wait, did that just answer my question. I looked at Kariann, she surely noticed it too. She stood up from the arm of the chair she was sitting and took over Louis’s seat. “What was that about?” She asked.

I shrugged, “I don’t know. That was weird though.”

“Hey, since you girls don’t have to be home until another hour and a half, want to play a game?” Zayn asked.

“How about hide-and-go-seek?” Harry suggested.

“Ye-s!” I said, clapping my hands, then I stopped and pointed at Kariann. “She’s ‘it’.”

“What?” Kariann exclaimed, surprised.

Kariann rolled her eyes, “Fine. Whatever, I’ll be it.”

________

*Kariann’s POV*

We had a few rules laid out. One: you could only hide in the backstage area and two: no cell phones. So there was this neat little pile of phones in the middle of the table and I was sitting on the couch, counting down in my head from a hundred and fifty.

I jumped up once I was done and started out the door. I had no clue where to start. Where would everyone hide? I sure as hell didn’t know. Except there was one person in mind that I thought of.

Harry Styles and his recent obsession with closets.

No, no, no… get that moment out of my head. Damn it, it was too late. I’ve already convinced myself where he’d be hiding. I had to try at least. Please, Harry, prove me wrong. I stared at the doors waiting for that oh-so-special ‘Janitor Closet’ sign. It didn’t take long to find it. I swallowed, inching toward the door and pressed an ear against it. Silence. I knocked lightly on it, “Harry?”

Still silence.

Damn it, Harry, you better not be messing with me. I reached down, pulling open the knob. I never got the chance to get a good look because once again I was pulled in. I shouldn’t have been surprised, but it was too late. The door shut. Only, it caught my foot, causing me to stumble and scream. Harry tried to catch me but he ended up going down too. This cause of events lead to me landing right on top of him and he grunting. I heard the door shut behind us. “Damn it, Harry!” I yelled, “You really need to stop this.”

There was no light, so I couldn’t judge just how close my face was to his. I could feel his breath though and the rise of his chest… and the smell of his scent… oh shit, I was starting to fangirl again. I was trying to move so I could get off of him, but his arms wrapped around my waist, making me stop. “Harry…” I started.

“We should go out.”

The statement was so blunt that I had to question myself, did he just say what I thought he said? I was silent. “Earth to Kariann? Do you read me?”

“What did you say?” I asked.

“Do you read me?” He asked.

“No, before that.”

“Earth to Kariann?”

“No! Before that!”

“We should go out?”

So I wasn’t hearing things. Harry’s arms were still tightly bounded around me. I swallowed, nervous. “What?” Harry cooed, “Embarrassed?”

To be honest, I wasn’t. For some reason, it felt like Harry was teasing me more with the question than simply being serious about wanting to be in a relationship. “Harry. No, I can’t.” I said, struggling to get his arms free.

“Why not?”

I kept trying to pry out of his arms, but I was failing, “Because… Seriously, Harry, let me go!”

From there, he got the hint and let me go. I jumped up, standing to lean back against the door. I heard Harry getting up after. I swallowed, nervous out of my wit. “What’s wrong?” Harry asked, concerned now, “Are you okay?”

I felt his hand touch my arm and I jerked away from him. “Don’t touch me! I have a boyfriend…”

That was all that was needed to be said. He didn’t touch me after that. He sort of just went silent. I felt so mad at myself for no reason at all. I wanted to cry. I had no reason why. Maybe it was because I knew Harry was trying to play me, but I didn’t want that. Even so, at least Harry backed off. I reached down, wanting to open the door.

Just my luck. “It’s locked.” I said in disbelief.

“No way. Not again…” Harry muttered. I heard him slide down on the wall and onto the floor.

I did the same. We had no choice, we had to wait for someone to come get us.

Commence awkward silence.

We sat there for the longest time. It was for probably for thirty minutes or so, but it was so quiet between us that the only way I knew Harry was in there was from his breathing. God, I hoped Dakota could put a puzzle together and realize that we were in here. Please, please, Dakota, just come find us. I didn’t want to be locked in here forever with Harry.

___________

*Dakota’s POV*

The hell was taking Kariann so long? Surely it didn’t take her twenty minutes to find me. I was in the easiest place you could find. I was in the dressing room hiding behind a curtain. I was sitting on the floor in front of the mirror, bored of the game. I got up, ready to just call it quits. I did have a short attention span, but I didn’t have my phone so I didn’t have a time killer. I started humming one of the songs that was played at the concert, keeping myself preoccupied.

That was until I rounded a corner and ran straight a boy on crutches. “Oh, jeez, Louis. Are you okay?” I asked, grabbing his shirt around his side to keep him balanced.

He looked down at me, and blinked, “Shouldn’t you be hiding?”

“I got tired of waiting.” I replied, letting go of his shirt.

He swallowed, as if debating on what to say. That’s when I noticed. His eyes were strained and forehead creased. “Are you okay?” I asked, “You look sick.”

“It’s just…” he started, then looked down at his foot, “Don’t tell the guys, but can you help me find some pain meds? My ankle hurts really bad.”

I nodded, letting him lead the way so I could make sure he wouldn’t pass out from the pain. I instructed him to sit down once we got into the lounge. He sat down, caressing his leg. “Do you guys have any?”

“Yeah.” Lou said, pointing at the bag on the counter, “One of our stylist usually keeps some on her for us.”

I reached into the bag, digging around. Once I found them, I tossed the bottle at Lou, who caught it. He took a few out, swallowing them without even taking a drink of something. I made a face, offering a cup of water that was on the table. He took it and drank the fluid until it was gone. “Ah… jeez.”

The door opened and both Liam and Zayn came walking in. “Hey…” Zayn started, then looked around the room, “Where’s Harry and Kariann?”

I shrugged, “I don’t know. I got tired of waiting so I came back with Louis.”

Louis nodded, agreeing. I couldn’t help but notice just how much his personality seemed so off today. From all the videos I ever watched about him, he was crazy and random. Now he was calm. I guess it was the pain. Poor guy, he’s been through so much today.

“Should we go find them?” Liam asked, “We need to get you girls back to the hotel.”

I nodded. I grabbed our phones, hers still off and I had a few miss calls. I didn’t bother checking though. Zayn stayed back in the room with Louis, saying they’d call if they came back. Liam and I stuck together as we searched around, calling Kariann and Harry’s name.

“Nothing.” Liam said, coming out of the male restroom.

I was already out of the females. I sighed, “Where the hell could they be?”

“I’m starting to regret the rule with no cell phones.” Liam said. “I’m worried.”

I watched as he rubbed his chin. I touched his arm, indicating we should begin walking. He followed along right behind me, cracking open doors and calling out their names. For over a half hour did we try to find them, but to no success. At one point I tried to wrack my brain though, “If I was Harry, where would I hide?”

“They have got to be stuck somewhere.” Liam said, “But…”

It hit me then. “Wait! What about Harry and his recent trend of closets? Where’s the Janitor Closet?”

“It should be down the hall from here…” Liam said.

He led the way and I followed close behind. He showed me the door and I practically ripped it open from its hinges. There they were, both silent. Both on the floor. Harry was in the back of the closet, back against the wall and legs pulled up with his arms resting on them. He was fumbling with his fingers, as if agitated with something. Kariann was sort of in the same position only her face was buried in her knees. I bent down, touching her shoulder.

They were shaking.

“Kariann?” I asked, worried.

Was she that scared? No, wait… I looked at Harry. He was staring at Kariann. They didn’t seem ready to move at all. I looked up at Liam, “I think it’s time we went home.”

Liam was staring at Harry, confusion and worry crossing his face. “Yeah, I think so too. Harry, why don’t you go back to the rest of the guys in the lounge? I’ll take them home.”

I grabbed both of Kariann’s shoulders, “Come on, Kariann. Let’s go.”

She nodded, getting up and I led her down the hall. I didn’t know what happened, but I was sure it had something to do with Harry. Even as we left the building and got into a car Liam led us to, nothing was said about what happened in the closet. Kariann managed to get herself together halfway back to the hotel, but she stayed silent, staring out the window. Once Liam stopped in front of our hotel, Kariann saw herself out, not even bothering with a bye.

“Sorry about that. Something must’ve happened.” I said, leaning up between the front seats.

“It’s okay. I’m going to try and talk to Harry and see what’s going on.” Liam replied, smiling a little at me.

I reached over, giving one of those car hugs that was way to awkward to explain. He squeezed my arm with his hand, returning the hug. “Thanks for the ride, LiLi.”

“Hey…” He started as I was pulling away, “Listen, I know we barely know each other, but it feels like we’ve known each other forever. I’m just trying to say that I’m here if you want to talk.”

I opened the door, “Seriously, Liam. You’ve helped out enough already.”

I stepped out, but I wasn’t the only one that was doing so either. I shut the door, but Liam left his open. He grabbed my arm, pulling me close. “I’m not joking, though. I’m your friend and I want to keep it this way.”

My heart skipped some, not expecting the hug and his words. He pulled back and gave me one of his breathtaking smiles he always shared with others. He bent down, kissed my cheek and wished me a goodnight. He drove off. I ran inside, one out of worry for Kariann and the other because of shock and my feet was taking me wherever.

I made it into the hotel room. Kariann locked herself in the bathroom and I could hear her talking on the phone. For now I would leave her alone, for the simple fact that she needed her space. Hopefully Liam could find out what happened through Harry.

I felt my phone vibrate. I looked at the text.

From Louis: Did you guys make it back alright? Harry looks like depressed ghost.

To Louis: Yeah, we’re fine. I don’t know what happened. Kariann’s not exactly happy either. Liam said he’d try to talk to Harry about what happened.

From Louis: Okay. Oh, by the way, thanks for the help today. Highly appreciated.

To Louis: NP, but are you sure you’re okay? You don’t really seem like yourself…

I waited a moment, but I got no reply. I shrugged and threw my phone on the bed, then dressed into some jammies. I got into bed, ready to sleep. I let Kariann do her own thing. If she wanted to tell me what happened, she would. Now, I wanted some sleep. I felt the bed vibrate. I looked at the text before placing onto the table to sleep.

From Louis: It’s nothing really. The pain in my foot just got to me. I’ll get over it though. Well, I had a lot of fun today either way! Thanks for hanging out with us :)! Let’s meet up again soon!

That was it from the boys. Nothing left was said after that. Our ‘special’ day with the guys were done. Even after a week, when we were home did we not hear a word from the guys. As the days went by… it felt nothing more than just a memory. Until that one random Saturday. By chance I was spending one of my usual weekends over at Kariann’s house when the biggest surprise of them all came.

We were to become Nannies.
