Time of Our Lives

Tender Emotions

*Dakota’s POV*

A few days have passed by, quite slowly yet fast at the same time. Each time we had to film something together with the guys, I couldn’t help myself but feel even more awkward with Louis. Every time he touched me, even if it was light and gentle, my skin burned with the sensation. I may have the issue of falling in love with boys, but how the hell was I supposed to act around a guy that likes me so much and made it so obvious? Not only that, but I knew for a fact he took the filming of us to his advantage. I had no choice but to live up to it.

Like now, we were at the end of the pier overlooking the ocean. One of our hands were intertwined while Louis’s other hand touched my cheek and I overlapped my hand on his wrist. We stared into each other eyes. Our faces were so close. I was so nervous. My heartbeat flew away in my chest and it amazed me how Louis couldn’t even hear it.

The mere thought of him loving me didn’t just make me feel awkward. I was so scared. I didn’t want to fall in love and later having to experience the heartache if we were ever to draw apart. I was a chicken, but after seeing what happened between my mother and father, I was scared that it would happen to me. Or even worse, to Louis. What if I was the one to ever hurt him? Even now, I hated to be around him knowing his feelings for me, and I knew it pained him that I ignored him most of the time. We use to be so close and now because of our mixed feelings, I keep drawing us apart.

“Great!” Kariann said. “Cue music.”

The music jumped to the end of Niall’s and Harry’s duet and Louis started singing. “I thought I was dreaming…” He brought our intertwined hands to his chest, pulling our hands apart to rest my hand on his chest over his heart. “But I know what my heart needs…”

I lowered my eyes to where my hand was over his chest, staring at his hand over my own as he continued. “You’re scared to love,” His hand moved from my cheek to lift up my chin to look at him. “So is it just me?” His hand tightened around my own as he brushed back a part of my hair. “Will I be the only one?”

He bent his head lower to where our foreheads touched. I felt my eyes soften some as he looked down some. “The only one?”

The boys’ chorus jumped in. “Good job!” Kariann screeched excitedly. “That was awesome you two!”

Glad she was so happy, now I needed to hide somewhere and calm my fluttering heart. Louis and I pulled apart. I took a deep breath, letting it out. I saw Bonnie off to the side, bobbing her head to whatever music was playing through her headphones. Where Niall was, I didn’t know. I walked over to her, climbing up the railing to sit next to her. She popped an ear piece out, offering it to me. “Don’t tell Niall.” Bonnie said. “It’s a modern boy band.”

Ah, Boys Like Girls. I grinned at her. They were one of our favorite bands that we had in common.

…that you never get a second chance for the first time.

We will never be eighteen again.

No you never get a second chance for the first time.

It’s so good to see you my old friend… it’s good to see you again…

Bonnie and I jumped down, grabbing each other’s hands and dancing around, singing. We laughed as we did so.

We you know they say that growing up is hard.

Well it’s so hard to think of how we almost got so far.

Do you remember on the night of our first kiss?

Well baby, did it feel just a little bit like this?

Oh!

God, I loved this song. Until it clicked on me again. Never get a second chance for the first time. How much did that relate to me? I looked over toward Louis, who was speaking with Harry, laughing as they talked. “What’s wrong?” Bonnie asked, seeing how I stopped dancing and singing.

I took the earbud out, handing it back to her. “I think I need to be alone.” I said. “I need to think about some things.”

“Where are you going to go?” She asked.

I thought to myself. There was a whole island to explore, but I wouldn’t go that far into say I wanted to walk the whole. There was a land of trees nearby, but I didn’t trust my sense of direction. “Hm. I think I’ll go check out the shops.” I said, smiling some at Bonnie. “Check out some souvenirs.”

“Okay, love.” Bonnie said, smiling. “I’ll talk to you later.”

“’Kay, babes.” I said, waving as I started to walk away from here.

I started to hum under my breath, walking past the small cabins and making my way toward the shops at the other end of the pier. The shops held lots of people, families and friends alike that were on vacation. I looked around, wondering where to start. “Miss! Miss!” I heard. I turned my head to see an elder lady waving frantically at me.

I slowly and hesitantly made my way over, slightly nervous by the woman’s actions. I stepped up to the front of her stand. There were rows upon rows of bracelets that were handmade. I looked up at the woman, curious as to why she was calling me over. “So you must be the girl… What a beauty.”

“Um…” I started, feeling slightly awkward.

The older woman laughed. “Oh, I know my bracelets when I see them.”

I looked at the one around my wrist, mine and Bonnie’s friendship bracelet. “Not that one, sweetie. The one around your ankle.”

I looked down at my ankle, seeing my birthday present. “Okay?” I asked, still slightly confused.

“A boy came a few days ago, looking for a birthday present for a girl. He told me she was a very special girl.” She looked into my eyes.

“Okay.”

The lady laughed. I jumped in shock, man could the lady howl. We actually got a few stares from nearby stalls. The lady stopped laughing as she looked around the many bracelets that were on the table. She picked one up, one that looked similar to my own, only it was a deep blue. She held it out to me. I took it, looking at it. “That ankle bracelet I gave to the boy… that’s its matching pair. I was so concerned in finding him something I forgot to give it to him. Why don’t you do it for me?”

I nodded, reaching to my back pocket to grab my mini wallet I carried around. “Oh, don’t worry about paying me.” She said, smiling. “As long as I got to see the girl he was smitten over, I would be satisfied.”

I grinned like an idiot, more out of entertainment than anything. First of all, who said smitten these days? Second, it made me wonder just how obvious Louis displayed his feelings around me. “Thank you.” I said. “I’ll go give it to him now.”

The elder lady gave me a toothy grin and waved me off. I smiled at the blue bracelet in my hand. Maybe it was the words the woman said, or perhaps the bracelet, but that made me decide. I wouldn’t chicken out on a great guy like Louis. I knew if I didn’t do something now, there will be a day I would regret ever leading him astray. But of course, I wouldn’t fall that easily. My name was Dakota Ann Duff and I was not that easy to get. He challenged me that he would make me face my fears. I want to see just how well he could hold up to his promises. I want to see how well he could prove me wrong.

I made it back toward the pier and saw him sitting against the railing, looking over his phone. “Louis!” I called out.

Immediately upon hearing my voice, he looked up. His eyes didn’t leave me whenever I neared him. I stood a few feet away from him, a smile apparent on my face. I stretched out my hand in a closed fist. He stuck his palm, curious. I dropped the bracelet in his hand. “Now we match.” I said, smiling at him. “Hehe.”

I skipped away from him, deciding to go towards a talkative Bonnie and Danielle.

*Louis’s POV*

I watched as Dakota skipped away just as fast as she came. I held the blue bracelet between my fingers, looking at its contents. It really was a matching ankle bracelet like Dakota’s. I wonder why the woman didn’t give it to me before.

“What’s that?” I heard Harry ask, squinting his eyes to look at the bracelet.

I grinned. “An ankle bracelet.”

“Really? When’d you get it?”

“Dakota just gave it to me.”

Harry gaped a little before grinning. “Well, damn. What does that mean?”

“Nothing.” I said, grinning back. “Just that we match.”

Yup, we totally matched, but I wasn’t talking in the sense with the bracelets being the same. I meant us. We matched and that was what I wanted and I knew that was what I was going to get. If I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. When Louis the Tommo Tomlinson decides on something, he doesn’t back out on his decisions. He’ll follow them through, no matter what.

I saw something grab my attention from the corner of my eye. I looked up, seeing Eleanor looking at me from afar. She smiled, waving at me. I raised a hand, waving back and smiling. I was confused whenever she first broke it off with me, but now I knew why she did it. Upon her own selfish wants, she wanted me to be happy. She knew there was something Dakota had that would fill the void in my heart that I had for such a long time. I wanted Eleanor to be happy too, and I knew Eric would offer just that to her. I liked the guy, to be honest. He was passionate about his wants and needs and wanted to be there with Eleanor through it all.

Harry clapped a hand on my shoulder. “So, you think you got a lead?”

“Dunno.” I replied. “We’ll find out later.” I looked over, seeing Kariann sitting at the end of the pier on her laptop, working on the video. “What about you?”

Harry sighed. “I want to make a move, but she’s just so busy I can’t bring myself to bother her. I know she wants that scholarship badly.”

“She’s got a whole week and a half.” I said. “Hm, maybe we could loosen everyone up a bit?”

Harry squinted his eyes at me. “Are you saying… wait, but I thought we strictly made a rule of no alcohol?”

I grinned. “Rules are meant to be broken, mate. Don’t you know the motto?”

Harry laughed. “And where are we going to score the liquor? What about the others, aren’t they underage?”

He was talking about the girls. “We’re on a public island with practically no laws. There’s no law enforcement around. We’ll be fine. And the liquor… there’s a bar right at the end of the pier.” I smiled.

“How do you know?”

I’ve done my searching around for the past few days. “I’ve been there.”

“Well, what are we standing here for? Let’s go get some!” Harry said, grinning.

We started walking. “What about your vow to not drink?”

“I’ll stay sober.” Harry promised. “I’d like to be sober if I end up kissing her again.”

I laughed. “Wow.”

*Kariann’s POV*

I was sitting on the pier with my computer on my lap, checking through the recently taken footage whenever Harry took a seat right next to me, offering me a plastic cup of something to drink.

Only it wasn’t what I expected it to be. The shit tasted disgusting and burned down my throat when I tried swallowing it and I ended up spitting it out in mist. “What the hell is this?” I asked, tipping the cup to look at the dark liquid.

Harry reached over, taking my laptop off my lap and shutting it. “You’ve done nothing but work for the past few days. It’s spring break, you should be having fun.” He wiggled his eyebrows as he took a drink from his cup. “Oh, and that’s a pint.”

I made a face at the cup. “Did you seriously just give me an alcoholic beverage thinking I’ll drink it?”

I looked at him. He smiled. “It doesn’t hurt to have a few. You’ve been working hard for the past few days, so you deserve a break. Plus, what’s spring break without a party with beer?”

Well, it wasn’t like he had a point. I still gave the contents a disgusted look. “It’s pretty nasty at first, but you get use to the taste. Just keep drinking it.”

I shook my head, sighing. “I’m blaming peer pressure for this, Mother.” I muttered, taking a slow drink.

“If anything,” Harry added. “Force that shit down. Haha!”

He stood up and held out a hand. “Come on, let’s go down with the others. Leave the camera, this isn’t the kind of thing that needs to be taped.”

I bit my lower lip. I sighed, grabbing his hand and letting him help me up. “If my stuff gets stolen, you own me a new computer.” I said.

“It won’t” He assured me. “We bought off this part of the resort, so no one is allowed down here besides us.”

No wonder I haven’t seen anybody besides ourselves on the beach. I followed him down the steps and down the tier of dry sand to sit down before the unlit fireplace. It was still bright out, only about six o’clock. The sun wouldn’t set until a few more hours. Niall held up a cup. “Let’s thank the gods for gifting us with this blessed alcoholic beverage in our hands today. I’m pretty sure some of us are underage, but age is but a number! Right? So don’t feel guilty. Be like Bonnie and chug that shit! Whoo!”

Okay, our fifth day into vacation and the guys were already getting drunk. Even Liam, though he was sober enough to lead he and Danielle back up the steps to the cabin they shared. “Oh~” Niall cooed. “They’s gonna have sex!”

I rolled my eyes at Niall who just laughed and carried on. Harry was quite tipsy and I was working on my second cup of beer. I just couldn’t bring myself to drink like the others. Either way, this was my first time drinking so I had a quick buzz going on. I never experienced a buzz before, but I was pretty sure this was it. My insides felt happy and I was happy. Good to know I was a social drinker. Dakota was the same, though she was on her third cup. She hated the taste, big surprise, but it was her first time drinking and she knew better than to go overboard.

Bonnie on the other hand. Damn, she could hold her liquor. I have no idea if she’s ever drank before, but she could really hold everything down and still manage to walk straight. Maybe she had Irish in her. Ha… okay, did I seriously just implied that Niall was in her? Jeez, I really needed to stop thinking like that. I watched Zayn grab a buzzed Perry’s hand and they started their way up the steps where Dani and Liam disappeared up to before.

The sun soon set and we all decided to head back to our cabins before we got too drunk out of our minds to function right. We stumbled up the steps and I was about to go to my cabin, but a hand grabbed my own, stopping me from going any further. “Harry…” I whined.

“I… I think I’m going to be sick.” He muttered, putting a hand over his mouth.

I sighed heavily, tightening my grip over his and started to drag him along to my cabin, seeing how it was way closer than his. I unlocked the door. Harry quickly moved to the bathroom. I heard some coughing and spitting, otherwise no serious vomiting. I crinkled my nose. “Why are you even the one who’s coughing up shit when the other guys drank so much more than you did?”

“It’s been a while since I had a drink.” Harry yelled back, turning the sink on.

He stood into the threshold of the door, staring out. “Better?” I asked him.

He nodded. I pointed at my door. “Please see yourself out then.”

“I can’t.” He said. “I… forgot my key.”

I gaped. “What!? How?”

Harry shrugged. “Can I just stay here?”

“Why not sleep with Louis?”

“He’s not exactly the type that likes to share a bed. And God knows what Liam and Zayn are doing to their girlfriends. Even Niall, I don’t think he and Bonnie are in that kind of relationship yet, but I still don’t want to be around him when he’s drunk and made sex jokes before.”

I sighed, rubbing my head. “Fine. Pick a side, I don’t care.”

I walked over to the closet, opening it, bringing out some shorts and a tank top. I turned around, seeing Harry with his shirt off and was unbuttoning his shorts. “Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!” I said, holding up my hands. “What are you doing!?”

Harry looked up, seeming innocent. “I usually sleep naked…”

“I’m a girl!” I yelled at him, giving him the look that made him seem stupid.

That brought a grin to his face. “You think that’ll stop me?”

“Keep your pants on!” I yelled at him. “It’s either that or your ass is sleeping naked outside on the balcony.”

Harry pouted, looking out the door, as if he was highly considering it. “Can I at least sleep in my boxers?” He asked, trying to compromise himself.

“No!”

He groaned, buttoning up his pants. “Fine! I’ll keep them on.”

“Thank you.” I said, walking to my bathroom.

I shut the door and quickly changed and brushing my teeth, making my way out. Harry was already in one side of the bed. I shut off the light and climbed in on the other side. I put my arm over the cover, facing away from Harry to look out the sliding glass door of the late night.

I closed my eyes, ready to fall asleep. “Does it not make you feel nervous that there’s a boy beside you in bed?” Harry asked.

I opened my eyes, looking out the door. “No, not really.” I replied coolly.

“Is it because it’s me?” He continued on.

I felt a small smile come across my face. “I suppose.”

“So if I was to take advantage of you right now, what would you do?”

“Go to sleep, Haz. Seriously.” I said, rolling my eyes.

“I can’t.” He sighed.

“Why not?” I asked, bringing my arm up to wrap it around my pillow, trying to get comfortable.

“How can I sleep when the love of my life is lying right next to me?”

Okay, those words just shot my heart rate from a slow beat to a crazy fast and overwhelming hundred mph. Wait, this could be my chance. I already vowed to myself that I would play with his heart, just as he has with me so many times. I rose up to turn around to lean on my elbow, facing him. “Oh really?” I asked, feeling a cheeky grin on my face.

He was resting on his back, arms up and resting behind his head. He looked up at me. A thought popped into my head. “How do I know you’re not lying to me about forgetting your key? How do I know you didn’t just say that to sleep in the same bed as me…” I bent down to where our faces were very close. I was still buzzed from the alcohol consumption, so it wasn’t like I was expecting myself to ever do this nor say this to anybody. I brought a hand up to lightly touch Harry’s cheek. “How do you know I won’t be the one to take advantage of you? You’re a twenty year old man and I’m an eighteen year old girl. What’s wrong with having a little fun?”

I heard his breath hitched and I just rolled my eyes and smiled. I began to pull back, ready to roll over to sleep. Only he quickly rose to where he was also on his elbow and with his other hand grabbed the side of my face. His palm cupped my cheek as his face was very close to my own, closer than I brought mine to his before. I could feel his breath tickling my lips and see the moon reflecting from his eyes that came from outside. My breath caught, shocked by his sudden action. My heartbeat speed up again and I felt my cheeks become warm and his hand cold under his touch.

A smile erupted on his face. “I don’t think you understand, Kariann.” He whispered, voice low and husky. “I wasn’t kidding when I asked what you would do if I took advantage of you right now. I may be a twenty year old grown man, and you an eighteen year old girl, but I have a lot more experience than you do. Your acts of playing with my feelings will never work because I can easily turn it against you.”

He dipped his head in, bringing his lips to my cheek and pressed his lips softly. He let the kiss linger for the longest moment, but I didn’t pull away from him. He pulled back and we made eye contact. A small smile came to his face. “G’night, love.” He said. He gently grazed my cheek with his thumb before dropping his hand and turning over with his back facing me.

I slowly turned my back to him as I drew the cover over my shoulder and let the biggest blush come onto my face. Damn it, Harry, I thought. Curse you, when I thought I had the upper hand, you turned it around on me. Why did I have to become embarrassed so easily? Even I had more experience with boys than Dakota and she didn’t blush mad whenever Louis would touch her. Why was it like this with Harry?

Fucking bullshit, it actually made me mad. I would get him back though. “Oh, and by the way.” I heard him speak up. “I didn’t lie about forgetting my key. I really did.”

“I know, Harry.” I said, touching my cheek where he has kissed me before. In all the time I’ve known him, he’s never lied to me once. But still, that wasn’t the point.

I had to get him back.

But first I had to calm myself over that small, sweet, ever-so-tender kiss he planted on my cheek.

Okay, this is slighlty off topic, but I was just wondering about something.

Everyone is so obsessed about the whole 'Larry Stylinson' deal... so pretty much made something similar between Dakota and Bonnie.

So... Dakota Duff + Bonnie Haub = ?
