You Are My Best Friend

CHAPTER 16

Harry smiled.

“Erm, you mean the kiss I blew to the girl behind ya?”, he asked.

My face fell a little and I felt slightly stupid. Well.

Seeing my fallen countenance, Harry giggled. Seriously, giggled.

“Gotcha! Gotcha!”, yelled Niall.

Woooow. I swear, those boys would be the death of me.

“Okay, seriously though...What was that all about?”, I asked Harry.

All of a sudden, he turned serious. Well, a little more serious than the giggly boy before.

“Can we go and get some pizza or something?”, he asked.

“Um, sure. When?”, I asked.

“How ‘bout now?”, he said, “I’m always hungry after a show!”.

“All right then. Can’t say I’m not hungry”, I answered. Inside, I was kind of freaking out. But Harry like, just broke up with Taylor. I can’t rush them! Just then my phone rang, and when I looked down, I saw it was Gram. I was kind of relieved, because I had been doubting the wiseness of the decision to go eat with him. I looked up.

“Um, sorry. Gram is calling, and she never calls this late unless it is something important. I’m gonna have to take this. Sorry, Harry, maybe some other time”, I said.

I walked up to my hotel room, and answered the phone on the way there.

“Hey, Gram, what’s up? Everything okay?”, I asked.

“Hello Skyler, I couldn’t sleep, and I knew that you crazy kids would still be up, so I just called to talk”, she said.

“Well, Gram, if you’re up this late, it makes you pretty crazy too, doesn’t it?”, I asked.

“Suuuure. Well, I was thinking. You guys have a break coming up, right? I was wondering if Harry would like to come up, and we could all get together and have dinner on the beach or something. Do you think he’d come? I mean, he’s probably going to visit his family, but he’ll visit his girlfriend too, right?”

“Weellll, about that...I don’t know if Harry’s coming to Rhode Island this year...He might have...other stuff to do...I guess I could ask, though”, I said, not sure if I should tell Gram what had happened to Harry and Taylor. Although, when I stopped to think about it, neither one of them had actually told me if they had broken up. I just kind of assumed. Oops. Gram talked for a bit longer, and then I started to get tired. Only 3 days until the break!

“Well Gram, I’m about to fall asleep, so I’m going to have to let you go. Love you, Gram! Talk to you soon!”, I added, in my awful British accent.

“Oh, ha, hilarious. Bye dear!”, she laughed. But then she started coughing, and coughing. It sounded like when I’d had pneumonia two years earlier.

“Um, you okay? That cough sounds pretty nasty!”, I asked, concerned.

“Yes, I’m fine. I just have a cold. Talk to you later”, she hung up.

I put down the phone, a little concerned. I’d call her again in a couple days to see how she was doing. I yawned, and started getting for bed. I was ready to set my alarm and close my eyes when Taylor called. Good lord, everyone picked tonight to call. Reluctantly, I answered. She was one of my best friends, after all.

“Hi, Tay. What’s up”, I asked wearily.

“Hi Skyler!! Why do you sound so tired? It’s only, like, 10!”, she asked.

“What the heck? It’s 1 AM!”, I answered, wondering where she was.

“Oh, right. I’m in LA right now. Sorry. If you’re too tired, I can call back tomorrow…”, she said.

Hmmm...probably with the DJ dude. But, I was super tired.

“Yeah, I am falling asleep. I’ll call you tomorrow. Bye”, I said. But first, I googled Calvin Harris. She was my friend after all. Whoa. He was nice-looking. Extremely so. I shook my head, wondered at love, and went to sleep.
