Brokedown Palace

Safe

The day dragged on and on as I poured more and more coffee. The only thing getting me through this shift was that I got to see him in an hour.

4:30 finally came and I hung up my apron on the peg by the kitchen,
“Bye Sue I’ll see you tomorrow morning!” I called to the older red head washing dishes.
I practically ran out of the shop and kept up my pace as I made my way down the street. The sun was still high in the sky and I was thankful for the warm spring air.

I turned the corner and walked through the beautiful gates down the long dirt path that led to the house.

I stepped through the doors and the smell of antiseptic and coffee filled the air, smiling I took it all in and waved to the receptionist as I looked for the familiar room.

122

I knocked quietly on the door and the nurse gave me a smile and waved me in. She put her pen back on her clip board, "Hey Dylan, you're here early today!" she said.

I put my bag down on the floor slid my shoes off and sat down in the comfortable chair next to the bed.

"I know, I practically sprinted, I felt bad because I couldn't come by last week." I said resting my hand ontop of the wrinkles still one infront of me.

"He's doing well today the doctor is hopeful that he will wake up sometime this week"

My heart lifted in my chest and a stared at the sleeping face infront of me. "I hope so, I really hope so."

She left the room then leaving me with Walter.

"I saw him the other night you know?" I said knowing that he probably wasn't able to hear me.
"Louis I mean, the boy I used to tell you about, he came to Paddy's the other night."

His slow breathing and the heart monitor beeped as I sighed "I miss you. I miss him."
I sat there for another two hours reading and when the sun lowered in the sky and peered in through the draped window I gathered my stuff.

I kissed his forehead and walked out of the room.

When I got back to my house I scooped up Cat, and brought him into the kitchen to make our dinner. Canned cat food for him; canned soup for me. We really weren't all that different.

After dinner it was around 8:30 so I grabbed my guitar and retreated to the back porch, and played some songs before the warm air turned bitter.

I locked all the doors in the house and made sure that all the windows were secure as well.

I changed into pajamas and climbed into bed after brushing my teeth. My life was boring now, but after the last couple of years there was nothing bad about boring. Boring was safe.

And safe was what I needed.

Louis's P.O.V

I opened the door to my flat and threw my keys down on the table. Another interview down for the count. I made my way up the stairs and jumped when I saw a shadow from the kitchen.

I slowly made my way towards the figure and grabbed the vase that was sitting on a table to my right.

I turned on the light and held up the vase ready to attack.

"AHHHHH!" we both screamed.

Of course, I dropped the vase on my foot only leading to another scream.

Harry of course was now doubled over laughing at the sight before him.

"You know mate, you really need to loosen up."

"Harry I gave you that key for emergencies." I mumbled putting emphasis on the emergency.

"It was an emergency, I had no milk."

I rolled my eyes and laughed when I realized I didn't either.

We both picked up the pieces of the vase,
"So what's been on your mind Lou. You've barely said all of three words since we got back from tour."

I sighed sitting down leaning against the counter,

"What are you doing on Saturday?" I said looking up at him.

If you had writer's block, it doesn't show. My mom is an author, and believe me when I tell you I have seen BAD cases of writer's block. But, I couldn't tell on this that you had any kind of hindrance. Keep up the good work!!!! :)
