No Control

Liam and I wake up a bit earlier than necessary so we can have a “proper goodbye” in the shower before he leaves.
As we dress afterwards I’m feeling a bit sad that I won’t be seeing him for several hours. His flight leaves a little before mine and due to an inevitable mess at the airport and hotel who knows when he’ll be able to come see me.
Liam carries my bags to the door for me. He turns to face me. He leans down and kisses me. The kind of kiss we both know has to hold us over for awhile. He pauses and lays his forehead against mine. “Why does it get harder every time I have to say goodbye to you for awhile?”
I’m shocked to feel tears welling in my eyes. “For me too.” I whisper.
Liam wipes away the lone tear that escapes my eyes. We kiss one last time and share a big hug. I can tell that we both are not wanting to talk about whatever these latest feeling are.
Liam holds my hand and says. “Have a safe flight and I’ll see you soon love.” He squeezes my hand before opening the door.
“You too Liam.” Is all I can manage to say. I stand in the doorway and watch him walk down the hall. He turns to look back and winks at me.
Caroline and I share a car to the airport. Since she knows about Liam and I, and I trust her, I let her know about our goodbye.
I tell her that I was thinking about it and I’m sure its just a case of two very close friends missing each other.
I swear she looks at me like I’m crazy.
“Liz, I think maybe you and Liam are in denial. That goodbye sounds like more than just really good friends. Besides did you see his face when you were walking up to him last night at the after party? He was looking at you like you were the only woman in the world. Not like his friend who he happens to bang.”
I reply without even thinking. “Hey it’s not just banging!”
Caroline smiles. “Oh really?”
Oh crap. She got me. “Look Caroline, just because we are friends and we share something more special than just banging, doesn’t mean we are in love.”
“I never used the word love.” Caroline smirks.
Damn this woman is good.
“Liz, whatever you and Liam have, it’s for the two of you alone to figure it out. If what you two have works for you both and you’re happy, then don’t worry about anything else. Anything that is meant to happen, will happen in time.”
