Just You and Me

Send me an Angel

-Harry's POV-

I wake up to Isabelle's hair tickling my cheek as she nuzzles in closer to my neck. She has a content smile on her sleepy morning face, the imprints of the bedsheets still pressed into her cheek. Her messy hair and lazy eyes make her look like a five year old. "Good morning, beautiful," I whisper in her ear as her topaz orbs peer up at my underneath her long brown lashes.

She smiles, even bigger this time and cuddles in even closer. I haven't seen her smile in over a week. This is a good sign.

I hope she hasn't forgotten that her father's plane lands here today... "Belle, we gotta go pick your dad up at the airport," I remind her softly. Her smile slowly fades as the events of the past week start to creep back into her memory.

She nods sombrely before rolling away from me. "Hey," I coo. "It'll be alright, I promise. I'm here for you," I say, hoping she can hear the truth in my words.

I help her get dressed and in the car, turning up the music just loud enough to cover the sound of my voice.

"Harry, will you sing for me?" Her voice interupts my thoughts.

Suddenly, an idea pops into my head. I've heard her sing once before, but she didn't know I was listening. She was screaming at the top of her lungs in her bathroom, singing the lyrics so loud I thought she'd break something, but it somehow still sounded beautiful.

. "Only if you sing with me," I say cheekily, feeling my dimples indenting in my cheeks.

She huffs but eventually agrees. I pick one of the only duets I know; Two is Better than One.

I pray she knows the lyrics as I start of. "I remeber what you wore on the first day, you came into my life and I thought 'Hey, you know, this could be something.' Cause everything you do and words you say, you know that it all takes my breath away, and now I'm left with nothing."

Her beautiful voice joins in with mine. "So maybe it's true, that I can't live without you. And maybe two is better than one. But there's so much time to figure out the rest of my life and you've already got me coming undone. And I'm thinking two is better than one." I stop singing, praying she'll continue, and she does.

"I remember every look upon your face." Her voice sounds like honey being poured over a warm stack of pancakes, with the melodies of a harp playing in the background.

I join in again. "... The way you roll your eyes, the way you taste, you make it hard for breathing."

"Cause when I close my eyes and drift away, I think of you and everything's okay. I'm finally now believing..." We continue for the rest of the song, until eventually the music tapers off but our voices don't.

We keep re-singing the chorus the whole way to the airport, just our voices and the sound of the wind rushing past the windows on the freeway. She seems to be relaxing a bit.

I look over at her giggling when I purposefully miss a note, and her smile is the most stunning thing. I take a mental picture and promise myself no matter how old I get, I'll always remember this moment right here, when I have her.

I'm not usually this weird and romantic around girls, but Isabelle isn't just any girl... She's MY girl.

We walk inside, the cool fresh smell of the airport hitting me as the automatic doors slide open. The airport always smells like this, so clean and fake.

I go and grab us a coffee, leaving isabelle to greet her father in peace. I decided it would be better for them to have a moment before I interupt. And besides, I'm nervous to meet her father.

From what I've heard he seems cool, but... I don't know. This isn't the first meeting I'd hoped for.

i purposely take my time grabbing the coffee, waiting in line an extra few minutes and adding more sugar than necessary.
Besides, this meeting could use some sweetening up anyways.

I take a deep breath as I walk back with the three coffees, being careful not to drop the tray. Well, here goes nothing..
-Isabelle's POV-

"Hi Dad," I say quietly as he pulls me into a big hug.

His eyes are all puffy and red. I can tell he's taking this hard. Even though they divorced, my parents were always fairly close. I mean, they don't speak often -- or didn't speak.. But they always had that bond.

. "How are you holding up, sweetie?" He asks.

I decide to be vague. I'm sure he's heard about the hospital incident somehow, but I'd really rather not talk about it. Not now, not ever. I slipped up and I screwed everything up and I want it to be forgotten. "I'm fine" I say with a sad smile.

. Now that he's here, we're going to have to plan a funeral for next week. "Did amy come too?" I ask, looking around.

"No, she couldn't make it. Busy with work." Or she's just not into going to her new fiancé's dead wife's funeral, I think in my head.

Thank god, Harry comes back with coffee right on cue. I smile at him. He seems to be the only sunshine in my life.

"Dad, this is Harry," I say, introducing him.

"Hi, my name's Chris," my dad replies, holding his hand out to shake Harry's. He takes it and smiles.

I take my coffee from Harry and entertwines our fingers, letting my father know that me and Harry are together.

We walk out, my dad's eye catching mine with a "OOH-you-have-a-boyfriend" look in his eye, and I blush.
The next few days pass by slower than ever. Everything is planning for the upcoming funeral, and soon enough it's Saturday night and I still haven't picked out flowers.

. "Lilies or Gardenias?" I ask my father for the millionth time.

"Whatever you think your mother would like," he replies, the same as always. I settle on lillies. My mother loved lillies, so much my middle name is Lily.

I call the flower place, finally relieved to be done with details, and invite Harry over for the night.

Since my dad is home, I have to stay in my house. It feels so lonely without my mother. It doesn't feel right. At least I have Harry here to hold me.

I leave my dad to deal with my mother's things and try to push the pain away, making it subdue for just tonight. Tomorrow is the time for grieving.

Harry crawls into my bed, and presses a gentle kiss on my temple. His arms encase me into his safe haven as I try to drift off, dreading tomorrow...

My thoughts make falling asleep impossible. I end up lying in Harry's arms awake for hours, and finally my emotions overcome me. I'm too tired to force them away, so I let just one single tear slide down my cheek, leaving an icy path in its wake.

That one tear seemed to mean so much to me, almost like I was letting go of something I didn't know I was holding on to. Eventually, sleep overcomes me, and I'm pulled under into the darkness of my everlasting nightmares.
