A Little Story for the Boys

I had made Allie a key to my apartment so that she could make us dinner tonight, and that was all I could think about. Allie… in my apartment… all alone. What was she wearing? Was her hair up or down? What was she going to make us for dinner? I checked my phone to see if she had sent me a message, which she had begun to do but rarely. Nothing.
“What is all that about?” Niall asked me.
“What is what about?” I responded.
“That look you got when you looked at your phone. Is something the matter?” he asked.
Oh if only he knew what was going on with me, “Oh, I was just waiting for a call but have not received it yet, that’s all.” I said.
“Bull shit. That was not a ‘just waiting for a call face.’” He was drilling a hole in my head glaring so intently at me. “Something is up, I know you, Liam. So spill.”
“You may know me better than almost anyone, but that does not mean that I am going to spill.” I knew I could not keep Allie as secret for long, what with the boys being so close to me and the paparazzi just buzzing to get any news on me that they could. However, that did not mean that I was ready to share Allie with anyone.
Zayn, who was sitting next to me on the couch then chimed in. “Liam, look man, we are not trying to be pushy, but you have been distant lately. We just want to get you back.”
The three of us were silent, sitting in the conference room waiting for everyone else to arrive for our briefing on the upcoming tour. Once the silence was unbearable, I began, “I am only going to tell you a little, but maybe it will help with why I have been distant lately.” The other two nodded in agreement, knowing that if they said anything that I might not tell them any of it.
“So about two weeks ago,” wow, it hit me, that I had known Allie just a little over a week at this point, “I found Kim in, shall we say, in a compromising position. It was after our morning meeting where Paul warned us all about trying to stay under the radar for the next few weeks and to pick who we spent time with carefully. I had also talked to my father about the dangers of people using me for fame that same morning. Should have taken the hint, no? Well, I had stopped to get coffee for Kim and myself knowing that she would probably just be getting up.”
Zayn had turned his whole body towards me, obviously interested in what I was going to say. Niall, on the other hand, was not as interested in what I was saying as he was in the pile of doughnuts in the middle of the table. No stopping now, I thought, before continuing. “I had the car stop at that little café off Tottenham Court Road. As I was heading out of the store, this girl just ran into me. She was trying to run across the street, and obviously did not see me standing there. We were both drenched in coffee, she was panicked because she had collided with me and something about being late to work. I was pissed because I didn’t have coffee anymore. But she was just so cute. She apologized profusely and tried to buy me more coffee, but I told her no and that she should get to work.”
I took a deep breath before this next part, knowing that it was why I had been so down. “Well, so I went home only to find Kim having phone sex with someone else. I took the phone from her and the caller ID was something like hot boyfriend and best sex. I confronted her about it but she would not admit anything. I told her to pack all her things and that I didn’t want to see her again. While she packed, I went through her phone. Turns out, she had tons of pictures of herself and some other guy, more than a few of them in some pretty compromising positions and extremely explicit.”
“Well, fuck me man.” Niall said
I couldn’t help but chucked a little bit. Niall, everyone assumed he was so sweet and innocent, but he had the mouth of a sailor. “Anyways, later that night, I went to that new club with Harry, and guess who was there.”
“You have got to be shitting me, Kim was there?” Niall exclaimed, mouth wide open showing his half eaten doughnut.
“I should have been there, Liam. I am so sorry, I had no idea.” Zayn said. He was always there for me, especially when shit hit the fan; he always came to put me together.
“No, it was not Kim, it was the girl who had made me spill my coffee. And she bought me a drink as yet another apology.” I stammered.
“Ok, and why is that important?” Zayn questioned.
“When I saw her that second time, it was like a ton of bricks hit me. Like I couldn’t breathe and at the same time like I had more oxygen in my lungs than I had ever. I just had to get to know her, to talk to her. But by the time I made my way through the crowd to where she was, she was gone. Leaving her friend behind her.” I had already told them way more then I wanted to, but I knew that if I didn’t tell them, they would find a way to pry it out of me.
“So did you track her down?” Niall asked.
“I did. Her friend helped me.”
“So when are you taking her out?” Zayn demanded.
“Well, I kind of already have, a few times.” I could tell that both of the boys were a bit annoyed with me for not telling them sooner. “In fact, she is at my house right now, that is why I have been anxious, is to get home to the dinner she cooked us.”
“Are you fucking serious.” Niall exclaimed. “Did you not take anything from what Paul and your father told you. Maybe you need to be a bit better at picking people. How do you know she is not using you?”
“Well, for starters, her friend knew who I was, but she is different. I don’t know how to explain it. She is an American, doesn’t really like music, doesn’t read gossip magazines. She is different.”
Zayn chimed in, “You need to be careful, and maybe you should have one of us test her, see if she knows us. Maybe then you can see if she truly is not interested in you for your fame.”
“You have got to be fucking kidding me.” I exclaimed overly assertive. “You are not meeting her, not any fucking time soon.”
“Calm down, we are just trying to help you.” Zayn continued. “Look, we know that you are a very emotional person, and sometimes you do all your thinking after the fact. We just want to make sure you are not going to get hurt.”
“Well too late.” I almost yelled, “What do you think has been happening to me since we found our fame. First Danielle, then Olivia and Kim. I am nowhere near ready for you to meet her too.”
Just in time, the door to the conference room opened to allow the rest of the boys and a few managers in. I shot Zayn and Niall a look and they both knew they were not to tell anyone else about the conversation we just had.
“Liam, Niall, Zayn. Good to see you.” Paul said as everyone took their seats. “Let’s get started, I would like to be done within an hour.”
