Collision Course

Harry Styles

The couch sunk lower next to me forcing me to look away from my book. “Harry, you look like shit.”
“Thanks.” He croaked. “I feel like it.”
“Sit here, let me get you some water and meds.” I said, knowing all too well how much it sucks to have a hangover.
When I returned from the kitchen, Harry had curled up into the fetal position while sitting in the same spot. He graciously took the pills and glass of water from me, throwing back the pills.
“Can I get you anything else?” I asked as I fell into my motherly instincts.
“Nah; let me nurse this water first.” Harry nearly moaned. “Where is Liam?”
“He went to the store. He is getting some food, but didn’t want to leave you all along in your present state.” I replied, picking up my book again.
“Glad to see he is worried about me.” He fell silent next to me, focusing on his recovery from what seemed like a bad hangover.
To my surprise, just twenty minutes later, Harry was off the couch and rummaging through the pantry. “Is there nothing in this house?” He yelled to me. Yep he was feeling better.
“Not really. There is some bread in the breadbox. That’s about it.” I joined him in the kitchen, not wanting to yell at him in his present state. “You feeling better?”
“Yeah, I am normally pretty quick at the recovery. My body has built up a pretty good tolerance.” He replied in a slightly different British accent then I was used to with Liam.
“I am not sure that is a good thing.” I retorted, worried about his health if he was so used to dealing with hangovers.
“Is there a reason you drank so much last night?” I asked.
“You mean besides the fact that I have the day off today and I can drink if I want to?” I gave a nod. “Well, I was at this place last night. I went to buy a girl a drink. She seemed happy enough, but when she turned to see who had bough her a drink, her face just fell. I didn’t understand. So I went up to her and she said something to the effect of: thanks for the drink, but I am working on being a better person and taking a drink from a celebrity is on my no no list. I mean, what is that about.”
Before I could reply, Liam opened the door. Both arms loaded up with groceries, he made his way into the kitchen. “What I miss?” He asked.
“Nothing.” Harry replied a little too quickly.
I noticed Liam shoot Harry a glance, but said nothing about it. “How you feeling?”
“Like I was hit in the face with a freight train before being thrown in the Thames and then drug along the bottom.” Harry complained.
“Oh, so not too bad then mate?” Liam retorted.
“Nope. I have been worse.” I don’t think I would understand their banter anytime soon.
Harry was busy going through the grocery bags on the counter when Liam made his way over to the barstool where I was sitting. “Missed you.” He said before kissing me. His hand massaged the hair at the base of my neck, his lips pressed against mine firmly. Knowing that Harry was just a few feet away, I did not really feel like giving him too much of a glimpse into our relationship. But Liam was perfect, so naturally I leaned in closer. Possibly moaning a little bit into Liam.
“Uh-hum.” Harry cleared his through. “You two seem cozy.” He said.
“Don’t you have your own apartment or something?” Liam chastised after pulling his lips away from mine but leaving his hand where it was.
“Yeah, but you have food.”
“Fare enough.” Liam relented. “But I want you out of here in an hour.”
“I should leave then too. I still have a lot of work to do on that new manuscript.” I just realized it was Friday, meaning I had to get to work. Plus, with my work piling up, I knew there was no way I would be able to stay with Liam without beginning to feel guilt about ditching work.
“Do you have to?” He whined.
“Yes.” I firmly stated. “But I will be back later tonight.”
Out of nowhere, Harry declared. “I’m making caprese panini’s. Who wants one?”
“That sounds so good. I would love one Harry.”
“I guess I will have one too.” Liam said. “Making lunch is the least you can do to make up for showing up at my house at seven in the morning.”
“Oh yeah. Sorry about that. You two were up already, so it was not too much of a big deal.” Clearly Harry had no concept of acceptable and Liam was not in the mood to tell Harry off more then what I had heard him do earlier in the morning.
Lunch was delicious. Harry could cook quite well. I mean it is hard to mess up what he made, but he did a great job. Not too much cheese, a good about of basil and plenty of salt. The tomatoes were perfectly ripe which also helped. The company was also great. Harry was quite a comedian. After cleaning the kitchen, regrettably, Harry and me left. Harry walked me out of the apartment building, holding firmly on my arm and guiding me away from the paparazzi. Clearly he was good at dodging them since he lead me into a shop and out the back before down an alleyway. He kissed me on the cheek before bidding me good-bye on an open street, not a paparazzi or fan in sight.
Seconds after we parted ways, my phone rang. “No matter what I do, I just can’t seem to get away from you Liam.” I chastised.
“Well, fine. Be that way. But I realized after you left that I never asked what you and Harry were talking about before I interrupted.” Liam said.
“Oh, that. He was talking about what had made him drink to excess last night.” I replied.
“I am listening, go on.” He said.
“I find this a bit comical, but someone rejected him last night. To make everything better, I think it might have been Maggie. He said something about the girl telling him she couldn’t take a drink from a celebrity since she was working on being a better person.” I said, remembering how I had almost laughed in Harry’s face when I had begun to make the connection.
“Maggie, like Mags? You think she actually said no to a drink from Harry. Little miss socialite?” Liam sounded quite curious. Ever since our little magazine incident, he had been quite hesitant.
“I’ll ask her tonight, but I think it might have been her.” I replied. “I have to go. I am about to go in the tube and I am going to loose you soon.”
“Have a good day. I’ll see you soon Love.” He said before the phone cut off.

“To what do I owe this pleasure? Maggie said, answering her phone.
“Hi, Mags. Do I need to have a reason to call you?” I asked sarcastically.
“No, but there mast be some motive to this phone call since you never call me. So just spit it out.” She demanded.
“What were you up to last night?” I asked, trying to sound non-threatening but just curious.
“After you and Liam left, I decided not to stay home, along, and sulk. So I decided to go out.” She coldly said, obviously not telling me anywhere near the whole story.
“You went out. Sounds like fun.” I tried to stay nonchalant about it. “Meet anyone interesting?”
“Nope, not really.” She sounded quite convincing. “Hun, look, I need to get back to work. Will I see you later?”
“Probably not. I’m going back to Liam’s.” I said before we ended out phone conversation.
I wasn’t quite convinced. There was a good chance that Maggie actually did meet someone interesting. The she met a man she had been fawning over for who knows how long. That she had met Harry Styles. But was it possible that she walked away from her chance to truly rise up in her social standing. Maybe she actually was changing.
