Collision Course

Get to Know Me

After doing my good deed for the day, I found my way onto the dance floor, where I was miraculously able to find Maggie to tell her I was going. Although she tried to convince me to stay, she did not seem too sad or try hard in any of her pleas.
My bed was so comfortable that I found myself drifting to sleep and soon dreaming about the man that I had collided with, his beautiful brown eyes, and his birthmark just at my eye level.

To say today had been a shitty day would not be putting in harshly enough. My morning started with a long phone conversation with my father about the dangers of people using me for publicity. Then I had spilt my coffee as some woman ran into me. After arriving home I found Kim, whom I had been dating for several months now, on the phone with another man. And to make matters worse, his name on her mobile was “hottest boyfriend and best sex ever.”
I could not get her out of the house fast enough. I had just begun to feel so comfortable with her that I had allowed her to leave a drawer full of her stuff at my home. But looks like that whole idea was a lie. Had she been cheating on me the whole time? Was I just her publicity stunt and she had her real boyfriend waiting for her?
After the rough morning I had cleaned my whole house, something that I only do when I am stressed or depressed, and I most certainly am not stressed now. The last thing I wanted to do on a day like today was go out, but I did not really have any choice since I had made a commitment to show up with the rest of One Direction at the opening of a new club called Eclectic.
The boys seemed to be having fun at the club. I had told the boys about Kim, but none of them seemed to be giving me much attention these past few weeks. I understand that I was being a little distant, but we were on a hiatus from the group, and I was trying to live a normal, at least more normal, life.
Zayn had spent a few minutes talking with me, at least talking as much as you can in a club where you can barely hear when people scream at you. Nonetheless, I was happy to get everything off my chest, even if he only heard a quarter of what I was saying. He got the important part, Kim cheated and there was the possibility that she never even like me.
I had been moping for a good half hour when a waiter came up to me and handed me a drink that I had not ordered. He leaned close to me and said, “Someone bought you this and she said to tell you that she is sorry for the coffee, or something like that. She is right over there.”
I looked to where he was pointing and saw the very same, red headed, woman who had caused me to spill the coffees this morning. She flashed me a smile, one that made my heart speed up and slow all at the same time. I returned the smile, but did nothing. I just sat there.
Why am I sitting here? Should I go talk to her? My mind raced with a thousand thoughts, but when I looked back she was gone. Looking around, I saw her head just disappear into the crowded dance floor. Moving fast to follow here, I spot her talking to a beautifully tall woman with a sleek black bob. She was hard to miss in a sea of wannabes.
By the time I made it to where I had last seen her red hair, she was gone.
“Where did she go, that red head you were talking to?” I demanded.
“Allie, she went home. She has to work in the morning. And you…” She answered as she realized who I was; I could see it in her eyes.
“Can we talk?” I asked.
She followed me as I lead her outside.

At lunch I checked my phone. “That makes two days in a row that I have checked my phone. Strange.” I mumbled.
**Dinner tonight, 8 pm. Dress casual. You know where**
“That’s odd, since when does Maggie go to dinner in casual wear? Then again, when do I wear anything but casual.” And with that I thought nothing of it again until I was off work.
Friday evening crowds are one of the only times that I hate London public transport. Even after using the Tube every day for the past two and a half months, I still seem to love it. I guess that is what you get for growing up in a small town where there are only two bus routes. Today, it seemed worse than usual, possibly on account that I wanted to get home so that I could change quickly before heading to the pub by our flat.
Jeans and an old U2 shirt from a concert my father had taken me to years ago was what I settled on. Comfortable, yet I hoped Maggie would approve. After slipping on my worn pair of red converse, I headed out of the house, with enough time to spare to walk slowly.
I found Maggie at a booth, sitting with a man who had his back to me. It didn’t shock me that she had company, but normally she tells me beforehand. And like normal, Maggie was not in casual wear but rather a tight and short mini dress covered in sequins. Her idea of casual? I don’t think so.
“Mags.” I hollered as I shot a smile and a wave as I approached.
“Allie, good you’re here.”
“Where else would I be? You invited me to dinner, or don’t you remember?” I shot back at her, semi sarcastically.
“I want you to meet someone, this is Liam.” Maggi said as Liam slowly stood up and turned to face me.
A smile. That was all I saw before he said, “And so, we finally meet for real.”
A small gasp escaped my lips involuntarily. “Oh my gosh, I am so sorry.”
“Stop, please, just stop apologizing. I think you have done enough groveling already.” Liam said as he took a seat again, motioning for me to slide in next to him.
I sat down, rather awkwardly I might add, and fumbled with the hem of my shirt.
“So how was your day, Hun?” Maggie asked, both mockingly and affectionately, trying to bring me out of my awkwardness.
“It was good; I am making some great progress. My skills at reading manuscripts had greatly improved so the transcription is progressing faster than anticipated.” I answered enthusiastically since it was genuinely a subject of interest.
“Manuscripts? Where do you work?” He hurried in his husky and accent filled voice.
Inside I was melting, yet on the outside I tried to act calm and collected. “I am working on my masters in medieval studies here at the British Museum, doing some internship and research.”
Clearly he was not interested, and yet he played it off as if he was. No more than twenty minutes into our conversation, Maggie quietly excused herself to take a phone call, something important she said. Returning a few minutes later, she said there was a work emergency and that she had to leave.
“I call bull shit.” I said. “It is Friday, at 9 pm. What, on this beautiful planet, is urgent enough to cause Margaret Berdman to go back to work when she would much rather be partying the weekend away? And if you wear that to the office, I am pretty sure you are going to get fired.”
“Never you mind your American mind about it.” She said, followed by sticker her tong out and running off. Just like that I was left along with Liam.
“Well, sorry about her. I don’t know what has gotten into her.” I said as I tried to cut the tension between us.
“I do. I asked her to bring you here so we could talk.”
“Why would you do that?” I stammered.
“Because you fascinate me, and for some reason all I want to do is kiss you.”
Normally, it takes quite a bit to get me to blush, but for some reason, the way he was looking at me when he said he wanted to kiss me… well I just felt like I was going to melt.
“What?” I said almost taken aback.
“I. Want. To. Kiss. You.” He repeated as he leaned in closer. “That is if you want me to.” He added still continuing to lean in.
My heart fluttered. “I don’t even know you.” I said as I lightly placed my hand on his chest, pushing him back ever slightly.
“Then why don’t you?” he said, his eyes still piercing my soul. “Get to know me that is.”
