Headmaster Styles

Grand Tour

Home is where the heart is.

January 24, 2012
A New Home

“Miss Greene?” I heard a small voice and brought my knees up to my chest, bringing the warm blanket over my head. “Headmaster Styles is already angry. It’s 9:15.” Angry?

I pulled my blanket off of my head and sat up. “Can you wait outside for five minutes so I can get dressed? That would mean a lot Haley.” I stood up and she nodded her head, stepping out of my room.

I went to open my suitcases, but I figured he wouldn’t be that mad if I put on something he put in my closet. So I walked over to the closet and opened it. I pulled out a red halter top and a black, material skirt.

Once I slipped the clothes on, I brushed my hair and opened the door to walk out. When Haley looked at me, she put her hand on her chest.

“You look great. I remember in my teenage years, I couldn’t wear anything like that. But you look like a model.” I smiled at her and she motioned for me to follow her down the stairs. “Oh, and I was meaning to tell you. Headmaster Styles’ cousin, Leann is coming down for spring. She will be staying on the fourth floor with you. I figured that I’d tell you so you wouldn’t be alone. She is set to arrive on the 5 of February.”

“That’s great news.” I smiled and we soon reached the end of the stairs.

“Right this way.” She said and I nodded my head, following her.

We walked into a room bigger than my room, and I realized that it was the breakfast room. I came to a stop when I saw Harry sitting at the front of the table, reading a newspaper. How cliche.

“Hello.” I sat down across from him and he didn’t answer me. He just took a small sip of his tea. “Did you sleep well last night?” I asked, and Haley brought me a glass of tea.

He pulled his newspaper from eye level and looked to Haley as she picked up his tea and refilled it. “Why would you care how I slept last night?” He said without even looking at me.

“Well. I just wanted to warm up to you. Since we’re living together… I thought that-”

“I don’t have time for teenagers. I have business to take care of. The only reason why I’m here right now is because I wanted to give you a tour of the home. If I am being rude, I’m sorry. But this is just how it’s going to be.” He sipped on his tea again and started to read his newspaper again.

Haley brought me some pancakes and I began to eat them. “So, what about these rules. You said that there were rules and how you wanted me to behave.” I said with pancakes in my mouth.

“You really don’t know how to eat do you?” He raised his eyebrows, finally looking at me and making me cover my mouth.

“Sorry. I haven’t eaten homemade pancakes since I was seven.” I swallowed and he still stared me down. “I’m sorry.” I snapped and his eyebrows went back up.

“You lived in Dahm, and you haven’t eaten homemade pancakes in ten years?” He fiddled with his newspaper and muttered, “Figures.”

I ate another bite and it was silent for a minute, and the awkwardness of it made me giggle for a moment.

“What’s so funny?” He looked over his paper and drew his brows together.

“Nothing. It’s just that… Nevermind.” I finished my pancakes and he stood up, making me look at what he was wearing. “You’re a little overdressed for breakfast.” I said, standing up.

He was wearing black jeans, a button up black shirt, and his curls were tamed. And he was wearing black socks. Maybe he likes black…

He walked towards me and looked at me, squinting his eyes. “Did you seriously think that you could judge me wearing clothes that cover my body while your wearing a halter?” I bit my lip and smiled, making him shake his head. He walked over to the entrance of the room and I watched him. “Are you coming?”

I skipped my step and ran up beside him, making him scowl. “Sorry.” I muttered.

He then walked out in front of me and I tagged behind him. “First rule of the house, do not walk around naked.” He made me laugh and he looked at me.

“You seriously think I would run around naked in this house?” I laughed again and he gave me a Oh really? look.

“Second rule of the house, if you want breakfast, you need to be down in the breakfast room by 8:30. But I made an exception today because you haven’t lived here before.” We passed a large corridor and walked into the left wing of the house. “Do not come into this wing. You have no reason. This is where I live, and the only reason you’d come down here is if you were dying.” We walked past a few rooms and he stopped at one. “This is my office. This is practically where I spend most of my time.” Then we walked to room right beside it. “This is my room. Don’t ever go in here because I don’t like people coming into my room.”

“Do you have a pool?” I asked, clasping my hands together.

“Do you think I’m that lame?” He led me down the stairs and through a few hallways until we reached a giant patio door. When he opened it I saw the pool. It was an underground pool and you could see through the bottom of it. It had a hot tub connected to it, and it had a huge waterfall at the end of it. “Here it is.”

“Any rules on this?” I asked, turning towards him and taking a step back.

“Actually, yes.” He sighed and dipped his hand down into the pool. “Most of my pool days are on Wednesdays. So I would like you to come here on Wednesdays.”

“Any particular reasons?” I asked and he shook his head.

“I just don’t want to be alone. It’s been hell ever since my dad died, and my mother just left without warning. And you’re all that I have now.” I gave him a warm smile and he shook his head again. “Anyways. We have a gym. Tennis days are on Mondays, exercise days are on Tuesdays, and music and dance is on Thursdays. And then Friday through Sunday is just lazy days, for you that is.”

“Wait. You dance?” I couldn’t help but smile again. “I’ve been dancing ever since I was five. I haven’t danced since I was fifteen though. But I still love it. What type of dancing do you do?” I asked and he went to answer, but he just scowled at himself.

“Doesn’t matter. I don’t talk about myself. Pardon me. But I must go to my studies now. If you want anything else, ask Haley.” He then walked back into the house and left me outside, alone.

I looked out and towards the blue sky, feeling the cold wind that was blowing harshly.

God, I wish that I could just roam wherever I wanted. I wish I could live on my own so I couldn’t be under pressure and under control like this.

I walked back inside of the house after taking in a glimpse of the sky for a few more moments and sighed once I reached the breakfast room again.

Then I saw Haley walk out of the kitchen. “Haley. What do you normally do on Saturdays?” I asked and she let out a hearty laugh.

“Darling, I am a maid. I clean every day.” She walked up beside me and wiped the table.

“Yeah. I’m just bored. What do I do?” I laid my head on the table and she laughed again.

“What did you normally do when you were at your house?” She sat down beside me and I looked up at her.

“Well first of all, my house was way much more smaller than this, and I usually had Malina come over.” I smiled at the thought of her. She’s probably getting drunk right now at a party. But that’s Malina. The life of the party.

“You have a phone in your room. Go call her.” She smiled and I jumped up.

“You mean I can actually do that?” I grabbed her arm and she laughed.

“Yes darling. He’s not a total monster. He’ll let you do some things.” I frowned and looked down, and she put her hand on mine.

“But he won’t let you do what you want?” I muttered and she stood up.

“You’ll warm up to him. Trust me honey, he’s not as bad as you think he is. You may think he hates you at the moment, but he’ll warm up to you. And he claims he has a lot to do, but soon enough he’ll want to spend time with you because he can’t stand to be alone for a long time.” She smiled at me before walking back into the kitchen.

If he hates being alone then why does he lock himself up?

I quickly ran up to my room, losing breath once I hit the third flight of stairs, but I made it up there. I quickly walked into my room and bounced onto my bed, and I smiled when I saw the phone sitting on the nightstand. Then I picked it up and dialed Malina’s phone number.

‘I’m sorry. But you’ve reached the voicemail of muah. Otherwise known as Malina. Duh, you knew that. Anyways, if I didn’t answer you, I’m probably doing what I’m known best for or I just don’t like you. Kidding! But seriously. If I don’t like you, I’m not answering the damn phone. It’s as simple as that. Leave a message and maybe I will call you back. Dueces.’

I don’t know how many times I’ve told her to change that. Well, if she’s not going to answer her phone, I might as well make my room the way I like it.

Maybe I will get used to this quicker than I thought. Who knows?
