Anastasia’s 17th Birthday Party

I let out an exhausted sigh once our house maids, Marian and Jolie, helped me set the rest of my party up. My parents will be here soon to congratulate me. They went on a private jet vacation to the Virgin Islands, but luckily they will be back before my party is over.

“My God Ana, I can not believe you’re finally turning seventeen. It’s about time you joined the rest of us.” My best friend Malina barged into the waltzing room and I smiled when she collapsed into my arms. “I missed you babe.”

“I missed you too, M. It’s been so quiet at our school without you.” Malina had just returned from her trip to San Francisco because her parents had sent her to some random boarding school.

“I know, you missed me. And so did these two,” She walked over to Marian and Jolie, hugging them and turning back to me. “Your guests are arriving early.”

I gasped and clapped, walking out of the waltzing room and towards the front door. Once I opened it, all of my cheerleader friends came barging in, congratulating me and telling me gossip that I didn’t get to hear for missing school today.

But before I could close the door, more and more people came into my house, making me smile. Did I even invite half of these people?

Then the football team arrived and they had brought alcohol. Even though I’m strictly forbidden to drink it, maybe a small glass won’t kill anyone.

After the rest of the people, some uninvited, arrived, the party was ready to start. I pumped up some music, and I passed around some red solo cups, and I decided to make this a well-remembered party.

I went to walk to my room with Malina, but many people were on the stairwell and I couldn’t use that entrance. So we had to go out the front door and climb up the side of the wall.

“Bring it on!” Malina yelled after I told her the plan.

When we walked outside, she started laughing uncontrollably and she pushed me into the bushes surrounding the door. She was more tipsy than I thought.

“Anastasia Greene?” I looked to the driveway and frowned. “I need to speak with you.”

I wiped the leaves off of my party dress and heard Malina cry out, “Who’s this hunk?”

I rolled my eyes and then looked back to the voice. “Did I invite you to my party?”

“We met late last year. I’m Gina and,” He trailed off and closed his eyes. “And Nicholas Styles’ son, Harry. And I have some bad news.”

“Well by all means. Tell someone who cares. I have a party to attend to, and from what I know of you, I don’t want to know anymore. You utterly and completely disrespected me.” I rolled my eyes and he walked closer to me.

“I was drunk. I’m sorry. But I am not normally like that. And not to ruin your mood or your party or anything, but I think you need to hear what I have to say.” He had affection and sadness painted on his expression and I sighed, nodding my head.

“Come, let’s go inside.” I dragged Malina behind me and Harry followed after me, and I shoved the people on the stairs out of the way.

When we reached my room, I reluctantly let him in.

Malina and I sat down on my bed and he transferred from the other side of the room to standing in front of me.

“Do you trust me, Anastasia?” His words made my brows knit together. “Do you trust me with telling you the truth and only the truth?”

“I don’t know. Are you drunk?” I asked harshly and he rolled his eyes.

“I can promise you that I haven’t had a single drink. And I am here only on business. Trust me, it wasn’t my choice to be here. You’re seventeen, am I correct? I am twenty three so there wouldn’t be any other reason why I am here.” He sighed and I nodded my head.

“Well please. I trust you. Just get this over with.” I took a drink from my solo cup and Malina laid back on my bed, staring up at the ceiling.

He began to pace and raked his hands through his hair. “My father died shortly after Christmas, and my mother has moved to New York to live with her mother. So I live alone in my father’s house,” He cleared his throat and looked at me, asking if he should continue so I nodded my head. “Before he died, I had caught a glimpse of his will, and your parents’ will.”

“How did you get a hold of my parents’ will?” I asked, confused.

“He had their will. I had no idea about it.” He shook his head and continued to pace. “You were in your parents’ will many times, but there was one thing that caught my eye.”

“Why are you telling me about my parents’ will? What happened to them?” I stood up and walked towards him.

He looked at me and the veins in his neck has strained, as if he was terrified to say what was on his mind.

“Tell me!” I shrieked, hitting his shoulder. But then he grabbed my hand on looked at me hastily, raring back his teeth. “I’m sorry. Just tell me what happened.”

He let out a sharp breath through his teeth and shoved my hand away from him, as if he didn’t like to be touched.

“Anastasia, your parents were killed instantly.” He looked down and I swallowed hard.

“Why would you lie to me like that?” I mumbled and he drew his brows together.

“You think I’d be here if they weren’t? Do you honestly think that I would be here if I didn’t have to save your ass?” He raised his voice with each word and I closed my eyes with fear.

“They’re… Dead?” Tears rolled down my cheeks and Malina walked up to me, rubbing my back. “I can’t believe this.” He went to reach for me but he took a step back. “What was in their will. Why did you come here?” I snapped.

“They said that if anything happened to them, since you’re too young to live by yourself,” Oh no. “You’d have to move out of your house and come live with my parents in Bently. But since my parents are gone,” No! No! “You have to come live with me alone.”

“No!” I couldn’t help but yell.

He looked shocked and went to step towards me, but he stopped himself and closed his eyes tight. Is there something about you that I’m not seeing?

“I will give you until tomorrow to have your things packed and ready to leave. It is my job to make sure that you are safe and cared for.” He counted his breaths.

“You honestly think I’m not capable of taking care of myself?” I snapped and he laughed a little, making me even more furious.

“Clearly your parents didn’t. Besides, they really should’ve asked someone else to take care of you because I have a lot of things on my mind and I can’t have a little girl standing in my way.” Malina had to hold me back from him.

But then he quickly walked up to me, so close that I could feel his exotic breathing, and I closed my eyes. He wouldn’t lay a hand on me, and I’m kind of thanking God for that.

“I will be here tomorrow to pick you up at noon. If you’re not packed and ready, we’re leaving your things here, I am dragging you to my car, and we are leaving for my place. Do I find myself clear, Miss Greene?” I looked at him and he was practically touching me with the warmth of his torso.

“I’m not leaving with you.” I grated and he just took a step back.

“We’ll see.” Then he gave a nod to Malina, and left.

“Well he is fine af.” She bellowed and I looked at her like she was crazy. “Oh come on. You have got to think that a sophisticated, wealthy, twenty three year old man like him is hot.” I shook my head and she smiled. “Just think of the things that he’s going to do to you Ana. Like, oh my gosh. A man with that kind of money and that kind of properness could strip you down with his eyes. And I have to admit, it kind of looked like he was doing it just standing there in front of you.”

“Malina!” I hit her shoulder. “I’m not going with him anyways. My-” Then I realized that he might have actually been right. What if my parents were dead?

Tears pricked at my eyes and I took a deep breath. I sat down on my bed, and just sobbed. This shouldn’t be happening to me now. My parents should have lived a long and memorable life. And I didn’t even get to say goodbye.

I cried harder.

“Ana. It’s going to be okay. Everything will be fine. Besides, you’ve got a rich hunk to take care of you.” She nudged my shoulder and I hit her in the face with my pillow.

I couldn’t do this. I can’t live with him.

This was a bad idea from the start mom. What the hell were you thinking?
