The Misfits

Chapter 36

“Are you sure this looks alright?” Eleanor asked. She twirled around in front of the mirror to scrutinize her appearance in the adorable little black romper she had purchased earlier today.

This morning Eleanor and Sophia had managed to convince Mackenzie and I to go out for manicures with them while the guys performed on the Today Show. However manicures had turned into massages and suddenly Mackenzie and I found ourselves standing in a high-end boutique on 5th avenue.

“El you are not changing,” I replied. “You looked hot as hell.”

We were currently in Louis and Eleanor’s small bathroom as we dolled ourselves up for a night out in New York City. Mackenzie was sitting up on the closed toilet lid while Sophia applied her make up. Eleanor was now brushing furiously through her hair in attempt to make the snarls that had formed disappear. It was quite a funny sight and I’m surprised we all fit into the small space.

"Has Ni seen you yet Kenzie?" Sophia whispered as she applied the mascara. "He's going to die."

"Stop saying that you guys are making me nervous!" She breathed, wringing her fingers in attempt to calm herself. She was wearing the new dress Eleanor had insisted (forced) she get. It was made of white lace and hugged Mackenzie’s curves perfectly. Sophia was right, Niall was going to die when he saw her.

"Don't stress yourself out Mack," I said, pinching her cheek lightly. "He doesn't stand a chance tonight."

Truth is I am just as eager to see Mackenzie and Niall together as everyone else. They had been taking things at a painfully slow pace. I know Mackenzie's past had left her terrified of intimacy, but this is Niall Horan we're talking about and I was growing impatient.

"Hurry yer ass up!"

"You can't rush beauty Ni!" Eleanor yelled back. We heard him groan loudly causing us all to giggle. They boys were waiting for us in the main room, flipping through channels and lounging as they waited for us.

“Yer goin’ fer beauty? Jesus in dat case we're gonna be here all year," he joked.

"Your cruisin' for a bruisin' Irish," I said, sticking my head out of the door and waving the curling iron threateningly. Niall stuck out his tongue at me in response.

"Where's Lia?" The guys and I turned to see my father enter the room looking distraught. My immediate thought was that he had found out about Harry and I.

"Here…?" I replied hesitantly, praying that I was wrong.

"When we're ya goin te tell me yer apartment was robbed?"

"What!" Cried Liam, Niall and Zayn. I immediately shot Harry and Louis a glare for tattling. They both gave me apologetic looks before we all turned our attention back to my father.

"I haven't seen you today, I was going to tell you."

He raised an eyebrow at my lie but didn't push it further. Instead he said, "You girls are gettin security as soon as ya get back. Got it? And will ya put tha' iron down? Yer makin me nervous."

I realized I was still wielding the curling iron and quickly disappeared back into the bathroom to hand it over to Eleanor.

"He didn't yell at you," Mackenzie whispered, her eyes widening.

"I know it's like the first time all week!" I joked. From the other room we could hear my father talking with the guys, his rough accent carrying through the thin walls.

"Ya keep a close eye on ‘em tonight ya hear?" Eleanor shot me a look as we all burst into a silent fit of giggles at my fathers words. "If anyone touches ‘em I'll kick der ass an' yers."

"What's the matter daddy, don't you trust us?" I called from the bathroom.

"Not fer a second," he yelled back, earning the laughs of the boys. "I'm serious Lia, be careful."

"We're always careful," I said stepping out and giving him a kiss on the cheek. He gave me a smile and I guess I was forgiven from yesterday. These mood swings were giving me whiplash and I sincerely hoped this would be the end of it.

"Jesus Thal, make it easy and go change into a pilgrim dress would ya?" Groaned Louis. I was wearing the little black dress Eleanor had forced me to buy this afternoon. It was pretty short, but a quick glance at Harry told me that it was more than adequate.

"Only if El does," I snapped back. Louis narrowed his eyes and I turned my attention back to my father. "Don't worry Poppa. I have five very protective brothers to lookout for me."

"Tha's exactly what I'm worried about," he mumbled. The boys let out yells in protest while the girls and I all snickered. My dad shot us a wink before disappearing out the door.

"Are we going to get that lecture every time we go out with you?" Asked Liam.

"Just wait until he finds out about her and Harry. Then it will be a monologue," replied Louis.

"Oh will you lot quit complaining?" I sassed. I grabbed my heels and attempted to fasten the latch, nearly toppling over in the process.

"Be quiet you incestuous slut," joked Louis.

"Down boy," I growled, while the others burst out laughing and Louis shot me a wink. Harry took my hand and pulled me into his lap to keep me from retaliating. He then reached over and fastened my heels for me. What a gentleman.

"Are you guys ready yet?" El said, stepping out of the bathroom with her hands on her hips.

"Ready? We've been waitin fer you!" Cried Niall, pulling at his hair.

-

We sat in a large booth at the back of the club. My legs were slung over one of Harry's as I sat facing him. He looked even more attractive then normal tonight, which I didn't even know was possible. He wore a patterned shirt, halfway unbuttoned of course, and his black skinny jeans. His hair was now longer than ever and he constantly had to push it back out of his face.

"What are you looking at?" He asked, catching my eye.

"You."

"Like what you see?"

"Very much," I said with a smile. Harry kissed my temple and wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me even closer.

"Nooo not you too," Zayn groaned from next to us. "You were my last hope, you can't get all lovey dovey now!"

"Feeling lonely Z?" I asked, leaning back and leaving Harry looking slightly disgruntled. But my attention was now on Zayn as he shot me a look that broke my heart. "Well you can keep Walt and Ni company while Mack and I go dance!"

"What?" Harry and Niall cried in unison. Niall and Mackenzie had been talking secretively in the corner but both looked up at the sound of their names.

"Yep. Come on Kenz," I said. I kissed Harry's cheek and I stood up to take Mackenzie's hand. As we headed out Harry smacked my ass. I let out a gasp while the others laughed. Harry winked in response causing my heart flutter. Mackenzie let out a laugh before pulling me out to the dance floor. We weaved our way through the crowd until we found Liam and Sophia.

I always forgot how much I loved dancing until I was out at a club. The music vibrated through my chest and drummed so loud as to drown out all other sounds. My hips swayed to the music and I felt myself let go. Together Mackenzie and I danced our hearts out. Whenever a guy would attempt to dance with us we would spin each other around and move a different way. I shot a glance back at the guys to see them talking excitedly and felt a smile spread across my face.

I know the girls and I were here to be with our guys, but I refused to let our relationships get in the way of their friendship. Zayn was feeling down and the guys needed to be there for him. We let out loud cheers as the set ended and I felt Mackenzie pull me to the side of the dance floor.

“I’m surprised Niall isn’t out here dancing,” I said over the music. “He hasn’t been able to keep his hands to himself all night.”

“Ha! You should hear yourself!” Mackenzie giggled. We were leaning against the wall, standing just out of range from the guys. “Harry’s been undressing you with his eyes since the hotel.”

I let out a laugh and turned so I was facing her. Even through the alcohol and smiles I could see that she was still feeling anxious. “Have you guys tried to have sex again?”

Mackenzie shook her head. “I think I ruined it. We’re stuck in limbo.”

“Kenz you did not ruin it!” I laughed. “He probably just doesn’t want to push you. You gotta let the fear go. Just focus on him, not on whatever memories you might have. He loves you Kenz, it’s SO obvious he loves you.”

She gave me a shy smile. After kissing her forehead, I pulled her back to where our friends were lounging lazily. I grabbed Harry’s hand and attempted to pull him up. "Come dance!"

"And come out looking like a hot mess like you?" Louis laughed. I stuck my tongue out at him while continuing to pull on Harry’s arm with little success.

"You're too much of a party girl Thalia, we can't handle it," added Liam.

"Guys, we're in a club...in New York," I replied. "Where's the excitement? You're killing me here."

"Here's a shot for your pain," Mackenzie giggled as she held out a shot for me. The two of us cheered before taking them without chase. I felt the familiar burn in my throat and turned to the guys with a smile.

"You're crazy girl!" Laughed Sophia.

"Crazy about you!" I winked. I heard the guys chuckle and caught Harry's eye. Goddamn he was hot.

"Thalia, will you please sit down. You're making me nervous," laughed Liam. Harry's hand found my waist and he pulled me back down onto the seat next to him. Why was he so hot?

"Why do I make everyone nervous? Do I make you nervous Walt?" I asked as I wrapped my arm around his shoulders and began gently playing with his hair.

"Extremely," he answered. His green eyes were slightly glazed from the alcohol, but he still stared at me intensely.

"You don't look very nervous," I whispered. He bit his lip and shook his head, causing me to giggle. He was cute.

"You are so mean."

"Why? Cause I like to tease you?" I giggled. He pulled me closer and pinched my ass making me flinch.

He let out a chuckle, "exactly."

"But I like teasing you. You never know what to do with yourself."

He leaned forward and pushed my hair back before kissing my neck gently. Then in a low sultry voice I heard him whisper, "but I know exactly what I want to do to you."

I gasped and turned my face only see him inches away. "Behave you brute we're in public!"

"Never," he smirked.

I turned my attention back to our friends before Harry drove me insane. We continued to party and joke around until the guys got up to grab more drinks. Feeling my phone buzz I quickly pulled it out to see half a dozen texts from Calhan. I frowned and began to read the messages.

From DoucheCanoe: I can talk to whoever I fucking want I don't answer to you
From DoucheCanoe: I wonder what Thal would think about you getting in her business you really don't know her at all do you

I was frowning at my phone. What the hell was going on? I blinked, for the words were slightly blurred, and I held my phone closer to my nose to continue reading.

From DoucheCanoe: you think cause your famous you can do whatever the fuck you want. Arrogant dickhead.
From DoucheCanoe: and I didn't fucking break into her apartment!! Why would I?? I can go over there whenever I fucking want
From DoucheCanoe: I was calling to make sure she was okay because I actually give a shit about her unlike you

I stared at my phone for a moment, completely dumbstruck. Calhan must have called while I was out dancing and Harry must have answered. But what the hell did he say to make Cal so upset?

Then there was the bit about my apartment. It was true that he still can come over whenever he wants - if he is with Nate. He would have more than enough opportunity to take something if he really wanted.

Harry made his way back over and I suddenly felt my blood boiling. Was he not going to tell me he had answered my phone and yelled at Calhan? Harry handed me a drink, and I took a long sip of it before setting it back down on the table. My head hurt as my drunk brain tried to makes sense of this new information.

"You alright love?" Harry asked, a slight frown covering his face. Instead of responding I handed him my phone. As he read I looked around our small party for distraction.

Mackenzie and Niall were enjoying a private joke in the corner, his arm around her while she leaned into him. She looked more confident now, though that might just be because of the alcohol. Louis and Eleanor were less cozy. Louis was hardly touching El at all as he joked around with Zayn. And Liam and Sophia were once again nowhere to be found.

"Hey, we're gonna head out," I heard Harry say. The others said their goodnight as Harry took my hand and led me through the crowd. I didn’t protest.

At the door he placed his hat on my head to hide me from the paparazzi. The hat was so large that it slipped down in front of my eye causing us both to giggle. I had drunk more than I realized and if it weren’t for Harry, getting back to the hotel would have been a struggle. Not only was my head spinning but my brain seemed to be off on another planet.

"Are you mad?" Harry said once we were alone in the elevator of our hotel.

"No." I replied numbly.

There was a painful silence between us with the only noise coming from the cheesy elevator music. I knew he was waiting for me to yell or speak or do anything, but instead I remained quiet. He took my hand gently in his, needing some sort of contact and reassurance.

"I'm sorry." He finally said. "He called and you were dancing with Kenzie so I answered. I told him to stop stalking you or I'd phone the police."

"Were you even going to tell me?" I asked, now turning to face him. I was still wearing his hand and had to lift my head back to see him properly.

"I was going to tell you tomorrow. Since the news about the break in you've been so stressed," he answered quietly. He gently squeezed my hands and looked at me like a lost puppy. "I wanted you to be able to have fun tonight. I'm sorry I answered your phone."

"I'm not mad," I promised him. "I don’t care that you answered my phone but just tell me about it next time. It freaked me out. I was worried you were keeping secrets. Calhan already ruined things once and I don’t want it to happen again. But I didn't mean to overreact and ruin our fun."

"You did not overreact…in fact, I think you underreacted," laughed Harry. He took my hands and led me out of the elevator and onto our floor. "And you didn't ruin our fun...now we can just have a different kind of fun."

I let out a laugh as he wiggled his eyebrows and pulled me towards his room. "Oh is that what you think is happening?"

"Mhm." He scanned my body and I wanted nothing more than to jump him right there. He opened his door and we headed inside.

"Well maybe I want to keep dancing," I said. Twisting my hips and shoulders to imaginary music. He let out a laugh and pulled his hat off of my head as I spun around.

"Little black dress who you doin' it for? Little black dress I can't take anymore. It's not right, it's not right, it's not right you know," he sang.

Goddamn it he was a gorgeous. I let out a laugh, dancing as I moved further into the room. He was moving towards me, a mischievous grin appearing on his face.

"Little black dress what's your favorite song? Little black dress I won't do you no harm." He reached out and tried to grab me but I dodged him with a scream. "It's alright, it's alright, it's alright you know."

"Ah! Harry!" I laughed, attempting to dodge him as he continued to lunge at me.

"It's alright, it alright cause I'll take you home."

He caught me and we fell on the bed. I let out a small scream as he pinned me down and lay on top of me. "I wanna see the way you move for me baby, I wanna see the way you move for me."

"Get off! I laughed. He had nuzzled into my neck and his singing had sent shivers down my spine. Harry lifted his head so he was hovering over me, those green eyes boring into mine. His hair was in his face again but I held back a laugh at his serious expression.

"Promise you're not mad Tootles?" He asked. He was looking at me with concern, waiting and watching for my reaction.

I met his lips with a soft kiss before saying, "Harry, I promise I am not mad."

Then we were kissing again. He was pulling me closer, his hands gliding across my body and setting my skin on fire.

@nata
Thank you! I was a bit unsure about this chapter, but I'm glad you liked it as well. It was really hard ending it.

@samie_horan
I'm working on the sequel as we speak! (or would it be type?) I've just been perfecting the plot - though I have a feeling you might all hate me...guess we'll just have to see. I'll post it soon I promise!

@Extraordinary Dreamer
I didn't want it to end either - which is why I dragged it out so long! I've fallen in love with my characters and just can't seem to let them go. Also thank you so much for sticking with me through to the end, I know you've been here from the start and you have no idea how much that means to me!!
