*Reign* Chapter 10 2015 I wake up, lying on Ashton’s bed, the door wide open. I sit up and put my head in my hands. What happened? I turn to see Ashton lying behind me, fast asleep. Luke is lying outside the door. I step over him and make my way downstairs, to see Addy, sitting on Calum’s lap, making out. Instinctively, I throw my hands over my eyes. I hear Addy stand up and Calum whining. I look through my fingers and slowly let down my hands. “Where is everyone else?” I ask. “Hayley went to…um…meet someone,” Calum says, uncomfortable. “And Amber and Michael left!” Addy throws in quickly. They’re acting really weird. “Um…okay. Listen, I’m sorry about…about earlier,” I say, feeling kind of guilty. I glance at the TV and see the hole in it. That’s gonna be expensive. And the hole in the wall. “I’ll pay for the TV and the wall.” “No, I already did,” Calum says. “You don’t need to worry about it.” “Fine. I’ll just pay you back then,” I snap. At that, I walk back upstairs. *Hayley* “Did he kiss you?” I ask, sipping on my vanilla latte from Starbuck’s. Madelyn sits back, uneasy. This is the moment I’ve been waiting for. “Um, well, kind of. He started it but he was drunk. You can’t except anything less from a drunk person, Hayley,” Maddy says. “Yeah, I know that!” I snap. “Well then,” Maddy says, surprised by my outburst. “Sorry. I’m just trying to figure this out,” I say, softening my voice. “I understand, Hayley. Well, anyways, Luke got my number and he kept texting and calling me, wanting to go out and do something. I finally agreed. We went to Central Park and just walked around. He got me a pumpkin spice latte from here,” Maddy says, nodding at Starbucks in general. “I was in the middle of telling him about my sister, Genevieve, and he just cut me off and started kissing me. After that, we kept seeing each other. I found out that he was dating Reign and we fought. I haven’t talked to him since,” Maddy finishes. “Wow,” I say. I can’t believe that Luke would do this. I’m so glad that I have Ashton, who would never do anything like that. “I know, shocker.” “It’s just…why? Why would Luke do that to either of you?” I ask. “I-“ Maddy says, getting cut off by my phone ringing. It’s Calum. Why would he be calling me? I answer and hear him sobbing. “H-Hayley,” he chokes on his words. “Come to t-the hospital, A-Addy and R-Reign,” he says and hangs up. What in the world? “Maddy, I need to go to the hospital. Do you want to come?” I ask, standing up and grabbing my purse. She nods and follows me to my Lincoln Navigator 2015. “Nice car,” she says. I nod and jump in. We race to the hospital. *Before the accident* *Addy* “Hey, Reign! Wanna go to Starbucks and Barnes and Nobles?” I ask. “I need to look for this book for my research class,” I say. “Yeah, sure,” Reign says. She follows me to my Jeep Wrangler. I start driving towards Starbucks. It’s going to take forever to get there so Reign turns on the stereo and we listen to Strong by One Direction. Reign and I sing along as loud as we can. Is it so wro- “Sh*t! Watch out Addy!” Reign shouts. A truck crashes into the Jeep and I black out. I hear voices. I hear medics. I hear Calum. Ashton. Amber. Michael. Luke. I hear them. Stay alive, Addy. *Calum* No. No. No! They can’t die! My sister. She’s my best friend. She can’t die. My girlfriend. She keeps me here. She can’t die. I break down. Michael, Amber, Luke, and Ashton are speaking quietly. They have to live. I sit in the lobby of the hospital. I need to see them. Now. They have to live! Ashton walks towards me. “They’re going to be okay, Cal,” he says, slowly. I nod, not believing him. “I need to call Hayley,” I say. He nods and I grab my phone, sobbing. Hayley answers. “H-Hayley,” I say, choking on my words. “Come to t-the hospital, A-Addy and R-Reign,” I say and hang up. Ashton sits next to me and tells me over and over that it will be okay. I can’t believe him and I won’t. I form words in my head for a new song. It’s for Addy. Because I’m a lost boy. She was in a f*cking car accident! It’s my fault. All mine. I’m so stupid. Why would I cheat on her? She’s perfect and I ruined her. I’m sorry, Reign. *Hayley* I rush into the waiting room to see Luke, Michael, Calum, Ashton, and Amber. Calum and Ashton sit next to each other, neither speaking. Michael and Amber sit across the room, staring at the wall. Luke sits alone. I rush over to Calum and Ashton. “Guys! What happened?” I ask. Addy and Reign are gone. It has to be them. Calum tries to explain but can’t because he’s crying too much. Ashton explains about the car accident. Their little sisters. “I’m so sorry, guys,” I say. I hug Calum and kiss Ashton. Maddy glares at Luke but sits next to me. All we can do is wait. Wait for news.
