Catching Red Eyes

The next few days, Laurie and I pretty much stayed in our sweats and watched Netflix. Harry called when he could and would send me silly pictures of himself. I would try with much effort to be as silly as him and send back photos too without the teasing eye of Laurie.
We were leaving in a few hours to head back into the city for the concert. It wasn’t until tomorrow but I still had zero idea of what I was going to wear and we needed full advantage of Laurie’s makeup and clothes.

“So, I am glad you took my advice,” my mother said as she walked into my bedroom. I was folding clean laundry while Laurie was downstairs finishing some classic movie that she was obsessed with.

“Yea, mom, I’m glad I did too.”

“I still want to meet this mysterious person that has sent my daughter flowers and tickets to his concert.”

“Soon enough, mom, lets not rush anything. I still don’t know where we stand.”

It was nice talking to my mom about this stuff. Usually it was never about relationships; it was usually work or school or her friends or my dad. I had to give my mom credit for catching someone as wonderful as my dad so she knew what she was doing.

“I know, Rowan but remember that you are a strong woman and you make your own choices. I just want you happy and it seems like he makes you happy. You’re in love and that constant smile on your face tells me that. Relationships take time and they take work but above all, trust. I know you two have already had some differences but he seems like he really loves you back.”

“I hope so because I can’t do go through what I have again. I mean the first time, he held back the truth about the contract which hurt me because he could have just told me the truth and I still don’t even know he actually slept with that stripper and if he did then he needs some kind of test before we-well you know.”

“Yes, I would advise that,” she said trying to hide the disgust with laughing. “Just hold off on that until you know the whole truth. Another thing too, honey, is that if he did sleep with that girl, you need to really decide if this is someone you want in your life. I know you want to look past it but talking to him first before deciding is for the best.”

“I will, mom. Thanks for talking to me. You didn’t tell dad about that whole stripper thing, did you?”

“I tell your father what he needs to know. Some things I just don’t mention, keeps his blood pressure down.”

I thanked my mom again before hugging her. She wiped her eyes and laughed.

“Stop, mom, I am only going to New York for a few days and then I’ll be right back.”

“No, no it’s not that, I am just happy to see that you finally let yourself fall in love. You have been working so hard all these years and now I am happy to see you found someone who will hopefully love and treat you right.”

“Well…would you say no to Harry Styles?”

“He does have a cute toosh.”

“Mother!”

We laughed as I grabbed my bag and we went downstairs. The three of us had dinner before my mother dropped us off at the train station heading into New York City.

“Tell dad I love him and I’ll see him when I come home.”

“I will honey, I love you, call when you two get in please.”

“Course, mom, love you too.”

I hugged my mom after she hugged Laurie. We waved before we headed up to the boarding station.

“So! How excited are you?? Get to see your baby daddy tomorrow! Just hold off on the boning until you two are alone please.”

“Laurie, stop,” I said to her as my phone buzzed in my pocket. I opened it up to see it was a video from Harry. Upon opening the video, I was glad I didn’t have headphones in because my phone emitted screams like nothing I had heard before. After turning down the volume, I saw that Harry had sent me a video of the entire audience from left to right before swinging the camera back on himself and blowing it a kiss. I watched the 10 second video again and the crowd looked like an endless, cloudless starry night with all the camera lights and flashes.

“Holy shit, is that from Harry?? Look at all those people!!”

I nodded and played the video again for Laurie to see.

“I have to admit that is pretty freaking awesome. I mean who knew dating Harry Styles would be this cool. Tomorrow should be fun, considering it is One Direction.”

Before I could even tell Laurie to not say those words too loudly on the packed train, someone sitting directly behind me jumped out their seat and practically sat on my lap.

“I KNEW THAT WAS YOU!”
