Losing and gaining

Nialls pov
"The truth is, Peyton, that i didn't think i had time to get a girlfriend because to keep my scholarship i need to have a b+ average in school, so pretty much all of my time is focused on school."
she nodded her head understandingly.
"Well, we'd better get to class, i don't want to be late."
"okay, could you show me to the science lab please?"
"oh, i have science too! We should be partners."
"Sounds good!"
we entered the science lab, right before the bell rang.then, we found seats beside each other and the professor started talking.
"Hello students, my name is Mr. Berget. Now, before you all jump to find a partner, id like to tell you that this year I've already picked your partners. ill read of the list now." Peyton looked at me franticly, but all i could do was shrug my shoulders. "-Peyton and Mike, Niall and Kathy. Please take 5 minutes to get to know each other." I sat down next to Kathy. She's had a crush on me since year 9, but she think i don't know. "Heyyyy Kathy."
"Hi Niall! Isn't this great? you and me, working together?" she fluttered her eyelashes and twirled her hair. ugh. she's so annoying. i glanced at Peyton and she seemed to be getting along great with Mike. he was the most popularest boy in school. I felt a pang of jealousy in my chest, watching him flirt with her. Wait, Peyton should be able to talk to whoever she chooses, i thought to myself. but i couldn't help but want to slap that stupid smirk off his face.
-LATER-
we started dissecting a frog today, even though its the first day of school. I was watching Peyton and Mike intendedly, not even focusing on our project.
"Nialll we need to work on our project now." Kathy said, smacking her gum loudly. I nodded and said, "why don't you start, i just need a minute. she nodded and began, but i still watched them.
suddenly, he stood up and put his arms around her waist, guiding her hands as she cut open the belly.i hated how close he was to her. i decided to take action.
Peytons pov
i watched Niall and Kathy out of the corner of my eye. Mike was nice and all, but watching Kathy flirt shamelessly with Niall was getting on my nerves. Mike was saying something about helping me do it, and i nodded like i knew what he was talking about. suddenly he put his arms around m. i froze. this was awkward.i didn't like how close he was.he moved his hands up my stomach, getting closer and closer to my boobs. "how about you and i go on a date after school, huh? would you like that? You could help me with my homework."he said into my ear, and i knew for sure that what he was talking about was definitely not the assignment that was due later this week. all of a sudden Mike was no longer around me but lying on the floor holding his jaw. what happened?!
I turned around, shocked, to see Niall standing there, breathing heavily. he yelled at mike, "Get your hands off my girl! Don't ever touch her again!" he looked at me, his eyes softening. "Peyton, are you alright?" I nodded, still unable to speak. The teacher intervened. "Niall, what is the meaning of this?Mr. Berget said in surprise.
"He was touching her inappropriately, Mr Berget."
"Peyton, is this true?"
i nodded still.
"Why don't you and Niall go outside for a bit? just to calm down. ill take Mr. Roch here down to the office." i nodded again before walking out of the classroom.
"Peyton-" Niall started, but before he could continue i flung myself at his chest and wrapped my arms around him. i started to cry, and he held me close.
"Peyton, don't worry, i wouldn't let him get any further. ill keep you safe. its okay, Peyton." he cooed softly to me. my cries slowed down to a halt and i untangled myself before drying my eyes. i looked at his shirt, and it had big wet marks from my eyes.
"Oops!" i giggled. "Sorry about your shirt." he laughed, :"Hey, don't worry about it. its not even my shirt,, remember?"
"Niall, thank you for what you did back there. i froze, i just couldnt move. Mike is so much like my father, it scared me, and brought back bad memories.im so glad you came when you did."
"Any thing for you, Peyton." I blushed. he went to open the door again, but i stopped him.
"What did you mean when you said i was your girl?"
"Oh, um, well, i guess your not my girl yet," he said, clearing his throat, "but id like it if you would be later on. How would you like to go on a date with me tonight?" he blurted out.
I smiled the widest i could ever smile, then grabbed him back into a hut before looking up into his icy blue eyes, "I would like that very much."
-THAT NIGHT-
after i dropped Niall off at his house, we planned to meet again at 6. i opened my front door, surprised to find my mum there. "Hey, mum, why are you home so early?"
"I wanted to be here when you finished your first day. How'd it go?"
"Great, thanks. I'm actually going on a date tonight, believe it or not!"
my mom giggled. "Let me guess, Niall?"
I nodded, confused at how she knew.
"Honey, I've seen the way he looks at you. mean, you've only known each other for a couple of days, but i can tell that he has good intentions. now, go get ready! you have a eventful night ahead of you!" she said, shooing me up the stairs.i giggled before shaking my head. my mum was crazy, but i loved her for it.
I was finally ready. Niall said it was a casual meal, so i dressed in something comfortable but stylish. (a/n:the snow had melted away from before)

the weather was starting to warm up, it was quite warm today, so i went out in a thick cardigan.

I kncoked on Niall's door, and his mum answered, dressed for work in her scrub. "Hey dear, nialls just getting ready." I smiled and nodded. he came down the stairs, and i gapped at his cute attire.

"You look nice." he said with a smile.
Thanks, you too."
we waved goodbye to his mum before entering the vehicle, and i let him drive.
"Where are we going?" i asked while he started the car.
"You'll see." he said mysteriously. all i could do was smile.
we pulled up in front of a park, and got out. it was very secluded and quiet here, i liked it. we walked down the path, hand in hand, and he pulled me up a small hill. once we got to the spot he wanted, Niall opened his backpack and pulled out a checkered blanket and smoothed it on the ground, before motioning for me to sit. Next he pulled out spaghetti in a container and salad in another. it was so sweet of him to make the food! I had never been on a date like this one.
"Here, i only brought one dish, so well have to share." he said nervously.
"Thats fine, this spot is so nice! and the sunset is so beautiful."
we both picked up forks and began eating the delicious spaghetti. we talked some more about random things, but it was nice to just be together. i watched him grab a piece of spaghetti, wiggling his eyebrows. i giggled as he put one end in his mouth and offered me the other. i knew what he was doing! this was so romantic!
i graciously put the other end in my mouth and we both slowly started to nibble on the piece, starring into each others eyes. it was like nothing else mattered except what was on the other end of the noodle. as we got closer, i closed my eyes and leaned in. His lips met mine for a slow kiss. Fireworks went off in my head. we broke apart for a second. i smiled and leaned in for another kiss.this was a night to remember.
