That Girl Should Be Me

Lauren’s POV
*Beep, Beep, Beep* I bounce up to the sound of my alarm clock. It is the first day of my senior year. Wow I finally made it. I jump out of bed and go into the bathroom. I take a quick shower and then head to my closet to find the perfect first day of school outfit. I decide on some light jeans, a white tank top, a gray cardigan to go over, and my black and white vans. I head back to the bathroom to do my hair and makeup. I curl my hair into loose wavy looking curls and apply some eyeliner and mascara with a light pink lip gloss. Once I’m finished I grab my purse and head downstairs. When I approach the kitchen I greet my parents and little brother who are all sitting at the kitchen table.
“Good morning sweetie happy first day of school”, my mom says as she sets a plate of bacon and eggs in front of me.
“Thanks mom. I can’t believe this is my last year of high school. It went by so fast”, I say before shoving the food on my fork into my mouth. I am surprised she made breakfast. Normally she has left for work by now.
My dad looks up from his newspaper “Do you need a ride to school sweetheart? I know you can drive but I am dropping Luke off at the middle school for his first day and I since I am driving past the high school I can drop you off as well”.
“Thanks dad, but Jake is picking me up and then I am hanging out at his place after school with Brooke and Jason”, I say. Jake is my boyfriend of 2 years.We started dating in the summer before sophomore year and we have been together ever since. I am one of the luckiest girls in the world.
“Okay Laur just make sure you are home before curfew and you get your homework done. Just because it’s your last year doesn’t mean you can slack off.”
“I know dad. I have worked so hard these past 3 years I am not going to throw it all away,” I say as I finish up my breakfast.
“That’s my girl. Have a great first day,” my dad says as he kisses my cheek and starts walking down the hallway.
“Thanks dad. Love you”, I say as I hear a car horn beeping outside. I stand up and put my plate in the sink. I say goodbye to my mom and little brother and walk out the door and see my boyfriend in his red Honda Civic. I jump in the passenger seat and before I can buckle my seat belt his lips are on mine.
“Good morning Beautiful”, he says.
“Good morning Handsome. How are you on this lovely morning?”
“Happier than ever now that you are here”, he says as he kisses me one more time before starting the car and backing out of the driveway.
We soon arrive at school. Jake parks the car and then gets out and runs around to my side to open the door. I grab his hand and we make our way over to my best friend Brooke and her boyfriend Jason who are standing by his car.
“Hey loser”, I shout as I run up to Brooke and tightly hug her. I feel like I haven’t seen her in forever but in reality we just saw each other yesterday. Brooke and I have been friends since middle school when I first moved here to southern California. We had a history class together and both of us didn’t know anyone in the class so we became friends and have been inseparable ever since.
“Hey Laur! Did you guys get your schedules yet?” she asks as Jake wraps his arm around me.
“Not yet. You guys?”
“Nope, so let’s go get them before we are late!” she says as she grabs my hand and we start sprinting off towards the building. The guys trail behind us as we enter the school building and make our way to the office. We grab our schedules and I look at all my classes. 1st period History, 2nd period Algebra, 3rd period Chemistry, 4th period Lunch, 5th Period Drawing, and 6th period English. Brooke and I have Drawing and English together, Jake and I have Algebra, and then all of four of us have history and lunch together. I looked at what teachers I had for my all my classes. I saw an unfamiliar name for English. Mr. Styles, he must be a new teacher.
Just as I started thinking about what he would be like the warning bell rang and Jake grabbed my hand and we started making our way to History. As we walked down the hall I thought about how great this year was going to be. I had my perfect boyfriend, and my best friends by my side. Nothing was going to get in the way. At least that’s what I thought.
