Moving To England

Chapter Seventy-Three

*Destiny’s POV*
*Monday Morning*

My heartbreak is grief that comes in waves, gruelling, stealing appetite and sleep alike. It is a shard in my guts that never leaves, though perhaps in time the edges will dull. It feels like death just the same as bereavement, and in quiet moments it chokes the breath from my body and short circuits my mind. What was once whole is shattered; where once was peace is emptiness, echoes of love I put my everything into.

The entire weekend consisted of me locking myself in my bedroom, my friends trying to get me to talk to them, whether it was in person, over the phone or even through texts, and the endless messages and missed called I received from Harry.

I drifted into consciousness. And then back out. The world was a blur, and random images seemed to float aimlessly around in the pool of my thoughts, as though they were being blown about viciously by a hurricane. Confusion blossomed in my heart, and I knew that sooner or later I would need to wake up. To stare reality in the face. But for now, I lay down my heavy head and retreated into swallowing blackness.

Suddenly, a loud series of knocking sounds echoed off my bedroom door, “Destiny! Open up! Enough of this! We aren’t letting you drown in your sorrows any longer. You have more important things to worry about. Come on! We are going to school! Exams are going up!” I hear June yell from the other side of the door.

“June, stop it. Be nice.” Elizabeth sneers at her, “Destiny, honey. Please open up. We can help. Please.”

“She needs some tough love.” June insisted, “Please! Open! Now”

“Stop! She’ll never listen to you,” Elizabeth snapped, “Darling. Look, we’re here for you. Please talk to us.”

The two girls continued to argue over how they would treat me before I finally brought myself to go and unlock the door for them.

“Oh my gosh, Babe.” June says, seeing my uncured condition, “Maybe you do need some tender love. Come here, baby.” June says, bringing me into a hug.

“What are you talking about?! She looks like some mess! This definitely calls for tough love. Come on, let’s get you dressed.” Elizabeth demanded, pulling me away from June.

“Do you two ever stop fighting?” I say, giving a light laugh.

“I do, when she agrees with me,” June declares, crossing her arms over her chest, as Elizabeth rummages through my drawers to find my uniform.

“I have nothing to agree with you. You’re always wrong,” Elizabeth insisted, with a shrug.

“Yeah okay, Princess,” June rolls her eyes, as she pulled out my makeup kit from my drawer.

“Oh, Honey. The other girls really wanted to be here, but they had issues this morning. You do understand, right?” Elizabeth says to me, handing me my clothes.

“Of course. Thank you, guys. For being here. I’m such a mess.” I slowly say. Before making my way into my bathroom.

“Yeah, you are.” June lightly laughs. “But you’ll survive. Just need some time.”

“Thanks.” I nod.

“Now go! We’ll all be late for school then,” Elizabeth insisted pushing me into the washroom.

20 minutes later, I was dressed in my ChicWish white shirt, and pleated navy skirt. I had skipped on the tights and went straight to pull on my black dress shoes. June dressed up my hair with little flowers, holding the hair from my face, as she let it fall down my back, while Elizabeth decorated my face with a simple, everyday makeup routine.

“Perfect! You look like you just haven’t ever cried a single tear in your life.” June happily exclaims.

“Just in time too. We have to get going.” Elizabeth insisted.

“First, smile for me Destiny.” June urged. Reluctantly I gave them a small smile, with my teeth.

“We’ll work on that.” Elizabeth nervously says, before pulling us out o the house.

Walking the whole way to school, Elizabeth and June tired to bring up a conversation, but it was only them talking, as I listened, not really knowing what to say.

“Destiny!” I hear Mabel scream, as we enter school grounds.

“Mabel,” I called back, not caring to raise my voice.

“Oh Babe, how are you? You didn’t answer any of my calls.” Mabel says, pulling me into a tight hug.

“She didn't pick up any of our calls. Didn’t even talk to her parents, wonder how they’re doing. Their daughter broke up with them too.” Ally says, with a light laugh trying to ease the tension.

“Hey, Destiny. You alright?” Niall says, trying to place his hand on my back, to comfort me. Immediately I flinch and take a step back from him. “What? What’s wrong?”

“You knew. It was your idea.” I merely say before I walked off to the school. I had noticed June shrug before she and the other girls ran up next to me.

The first class I had was Business, with Josh, Zayn and Mabel.

“Hey, I heard. You alright?” Josh slowly says to me.

“Yeah, I'm okay. Listen I don’t need all this pity. So don’t bother asking again, ‘cause I'm all right.” I insisted, snapping at him.

“Oh, I’m sorry. Just trying to be nice.” Josh stutters before he retreated to his seat.

“Destiny …” Mabel starts, placing her hand on my arm.

“I’m fine! Jeez!” I snap again, pushing back her hand, before storming out of the classroom.

I pushed the large doors into the washroom and stared at the mirror in front of me. “What are you doing, Baker? You’re a mess.” I say to myself. “Whatever happened to happiness?” I thought out loud, as the feeling of never being happy again filled my stomach. “Pick yourself up. You’re fine. You were fine before, Curly. You will be fine after him, as well. Just forgive him. It’s not even a big deal. He said he loves you. He proved it to you, as well. Let it go – But of course, you won’t. Why would you? Holding grudges is what you’re good at. And with these circumstances. You can’t. Another hello, will just be met by another goodbye. You know it. So shut up. And stop hurting your friends. They love you. But you can’t, because again, circumstances won’t let you. You can let it all go this after exams. Just two more weeks. Be a good girl. Keep it together. You aren’t dying. Not yet, at least.”

Suddenly, the doors to the washroom burst open and in come two older girls. Immediately, I quickly washed my face and returned to my classroom, making sure to apologise to Mabel and Josh, as well as my teacher for storming out of the class.

*Lunch*

The next two periods, History and Civics, consisted of me ignoring Harry’s constant attempts to talk to me, and me trying to focus on my studies. Ignoring Harry was a success, but the studying didn’t go too well.

“I’m not sitting at the same table as Harry,” I demanded.

“Oh, don’t be a baby. Just pretend he ain’t even there.” June insisted.

“Plus, where else are you going to sit, if not there? Mhmm?” Mabel questioned me, as three of us entered the lunch room together.

“There,” I say, pointing at the lunch table across the room, which was usually empty.

“You’re kidding me, right?” Mabel rolls her eyes.

“Nope. I’ll sit by myself if I have to.” I declare.

“Fine,” Mabel sighs. “June, you go to them, I’ll sit with Destiny.”

“Yay! I love you.” I cheered, giving Mabel a quick hug before pulling her to the empty table, who was laughing lightly at me. I sat on one side of the table, leaning against the wall, while Mabel did the same on the other end of the table.

“Are we sitting here now?” Ally laughed, as she plopped herself next to Mabel.

“I am, and you guys have to because I’m very petty,” I demanded.

“Well, at least you’re smiling.” Ally laughed.

“Destiny, you alright?” Liam says, coming and sitting next to me.

“Ally, can you tell your boyfriend to leave. I don’t want to talk to him.” I say, refusing to look at Liam.

“Liam …” Ally laughed.

“What did I do?” Liam exclaimed.

“Did you two hear something? The wind is pretty loud inside, today.” I say, after about 2 minutes of silence, still refusing to look at Liam.

“You’re kidding me right. I didn’t bet on anything.” Liam insisted.

“But, Liam what did you do?” Mabel questioned him.

“Nothing,” Liam says. Ally raises an eyebrow as if to say, ‘Are you sure?’ “Well, I might’ve told him that he should do it, but I was the one who convinced him to say you afterwards.”

“What great that did, didn’t it? Leave. Now.” I demanded, pointing at our regular table so he knew where he could leave too.

“Destiny, I’m sorry.” Liam tried again.

“Liam. Please. I really don’t care, right now.” I say.

“I’m sorry again, we all are. We didn’t know you’d be just an amazing person. We aren’t the smartest group. At least weren’t. You really changed everyone. Or lives pretty much sucked without you. Please find a way to forgive us. Especially, Harry, he is crazy about you. He hasn’t been as happy as he was with you. I’d really hate to see him fall back that depressing whole again. I’ll leave now.” Liam says, before leaving, as I made an effort to look away and Elizabeth and June joined us.

“He’s right you know.” Elizabeth slowly says.

“Are we really going to talk about this, now?” I say, getting a little angry.

“No, any who …” Elizabeth quickly says.

*Harry’s POV*

“You know what this reminds me of? The beginning of the year. Except for this time, Destiny is the one not talking to us.” I sigh, leaning against the wall, as I looked over to the table Destiny and the girls were sitting at.

“Yeah, that’s what I was thinking.” Louis nodded.

“Jeez, she is taking it harder than I thought,” Niall pointed out.

“Yeah, I know right. I mean the mistake was a long time ago, and we all came a long way since. I think she ought to give us, especially you, Harry, a break.” Zayn says.

“Yeah, well. I screwed up. This is what I – we – get for being jackasses.” I sighed again, staring at Destiny, from across the room.

“Bro, did you get any sleep for the past few days,” Louis questioned me as I yawned, for probably the hundredth time today.

“Uhm, not really. Trying to get Destiny to talk to me. She didn’t pick up a single call, or even look at my messages.” I yawned, running my hand through my hair, still trying to get glimpses of Destiny. “Jesus, does she look ten times hotter now that she won’t talk to me.”

“They all look like that after a break-up,” Zayn laughed.

“Well, technically they didn’t break up, she just ain’t talking to him,” Niall points out.

“Oh my gosh, you’re right,” I sat up, realising.

“What happened to that carefree guy that always got what he wanted, no matter what,” Niall asks.

“That’s true. I mean she still loves you, and you know it. You can have the upper hand, again. You know her inside-out. What’s stopping you now? Her saying to get away from you? I mean last time, I’m pretty sure she hated you even more.” Zayn smirked.

“Jeez, this is perfect. I’ll smart talk my way back into her life. It worked once.” I excitedly say, about to get up, but Louis pulled me right back down.

“Not when you look like that though,” Louis declares.

“Yeah, okay,” I smile nodding, as I ran my hand through my hair again, ‘There’s hope.’ I thought.

“But it would’ve bee a perfect time now, the girls left her alone, just like last time,” Liam laughs.

“Jeez, she got mad the last time I scared her when she was alone,” I smiled, remembering us at the beginning of the year.

“Hey, who’s that?” Zayn asks, motioning to the overly weighted girl making her way toward Destiny.

“Isn’t that Jeanie Tyler?” Liam asks.

“I heard she was a lesbian. Pretty open about it too,” Niall says.

“What does she want with Destiny though?” I asked as we all watched the two.

*Destiny’s POV*

The girls had gone to talk to some teacher, leaving the lunch table to myself. I leant my head against the wall and closed my eyes as I try to take in the quiet. I start thinking about Harry, even though I didn’t want to. ‘Stop it, Destiny. You can’t have him. Think of something else. Anything else. Just not him. Forget. Forget. For- ‘

“Hey Destiny!” a familiar voice squeals in front of me.

“Jeanie!” I say opening my eyes, with a light laugh. “What’s up?” Jeanie had plopped herself right in front of me, sitting as she gave a minimum of, maybe, 5 centimetres of space in between.

“Just wondering how you were doing, love.” Jeanie smiles, mischievously.

“Love?” I questioned her.

“Yeah.” She smiled, brightly, starting to get really close.

“Uhm okay,” I say, trying to back out.

“You know you’re really beautiful. I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately, too, and seeing that there is some tension between you and Harry, I just thought it’d be a perfect time to let you know.” Jeanie smiles, inching closer until she was a mere centimetre away. Startled I jumped up, pressing my back against the wall, I slowly slipped out from the little breathing space she had given me.

“Uhm … what did you want to let me know?” I asked, nervously as I slowly crept to the wall near the boys, hoping they may rescue me.

“Oh, love. I think you know.” Jeanie smirked, still following me.

“No. Not really.” I say.

“Honey, we all know I’m more interested in girls and you my sweetheart are my keen interest.” Jeanie smiled brightly.

“Me? Why me? Why not, I don’t Amanda?” I quickly say.

“Destiny, don’t you dare bring me into this,” Amanda yelled at me, as I noticed that everyone was now watching.

“Amanda? Jeez, that girl has more issues than Taylor Swift has ex-boyfriends.” Jeanie sighed, “Besides, I’ve been dreaming about you, next to me in bed, not her.” And with that Jeanie dives in for a kiss. At the last moment, Harry’s hand blocks her from me.

“Alright, that’s enough. You stay away from my girlfriend.” Harry demands, clearly trying not to laugh. Scared, I hid behind Harry, resting my head on his back as I hold him from behind.

“Okay, there love. Harry won’t always be here to protect you,” She says, dropping me a wink, “You might be scared now, but I promise you, one day I’ll kiss you, and you’ll love it. I promise you, Baker.”

“Jesus,” I sigh, still holding on to Harry, as my friends break into laughter.

“Looks like Destiny’s got an admirer!” Niall laughed.

“Shut up, Niall!” I sneered at him, letting go of Harry.

“Oh my gosh! She hears me!” Niall exclaimed before I shot him a dirty look and walked away. Before I had strayed off too far, I noticed Jeanie giving me googly eyes, sending shivers down my spine.

“Maybe I’ll just stay here for a while,” I slowly say, sitting at the edge of our regular table.

“Thought you didn’t want to be near us?” Liam smirked at me.

“Ally, you do hear anything? Because I’m starting to think the school’s got a horrible draft problem. The wind’s starting to sound like a fricken monster.” I say, refusing to look at Liam or any of the other boys, especially Harry, who thankfully didn’t make any comment on the whole thing.

*Harry’s POV*

“Guys, shut up and be nice for once.” Elizabeth rolled her eyes, trying not to laugh. The entire time I couldn’t stop staring at Destiny, who wouldn’t dare look in my direction.

I watched her as she dazed off into a daydream. My eyes tracing the lines on her face. Watching her, I thought, ‘Were we ever strangers?’ The day I first met her, I knew there was something there, though I didn’t know what. I could feel myself falling in love with her, each time, harder than the last. Every time the feelings get deeper, more complete, more bewitching. ‘We nearly have it all. How could I lose you now?’ I thought.

“Destiny,” Someone calls from across the lunchroom, from where Jeanie was sitting. Everyone looks us to see, it was Mr Dave, “Come here for a second, I need to talk to you really quick.”

“Over there. Now? We can’t talk here?” Destiny stutters, clearly not wanting to be around Jeanie, at the moment.

“Hurry,” Mr Dave says motioning for her to go to him, not hearing her comment.

“Come with me, Mabel,” Destiny pleads.

“No thank you.” Mabel shrugs, with a slight smirk.

“Take Harry, everyone else is too tired,” Elizabeth adds, trying to help me out. I mouth a ‘Thank you,’ to them, as I watch Destiny’s actions.

“I can go alone,” Destiny sighs, getting up as she half-heartedly made her way to Mr Dave. She stopped just at the edge of the table when she noticed Jeanie making inappropriate actions towards her, suggesting that they were going to have sex. Stopping for a few seconds, she reluctantly turned around, and with a pouted look she said, “Harry, please, come with me.”

“Alright,” I smiled, getting up as I made my way towards her. Immediately, I drop my arm around her shoulders only to receive a dirty look from her, “Or I won’t go then.” I simply say, making her hush up really quick. Smiling, I planted a kiss on her head, as we walked over to Mr Dave. She seemed to relax herself a little more, after the kiss.

While, Mr Dave and Destiny talked about exams, as he was answering some questions Destiny had asked him last week, I leant myself against the wall near them making sure Jeanie didn’t make any sudden moves.

“Alright, thank you so much, Mr Dave.” Destiny smiles at him.

“No problem, Destiny. Good luck on your exams. And remember to take it easy, you’re a brilliant girl, you’ll do amazing,” Mr Dave assured her, returning the smile before he left. Destiny turned around and walked over to me.

“Thanks,” Destiny shyly smiled at me, daring not to look up at me.

“Anything for you, Baby,” I say, trying to look into her eyes. I cupped her face bought it up, so our eyes met.

“We should go back,” Destiny quickly says, turning away and escaping from my grasp before I could kiss her lips.

“No, we shouldn’t.” I immediately say, grabbing her arm and pulling her back to me so that our bodies left little to no room in between, “We should talk.”

“Nothing to speak of, Harry,” She insists, not struggling to escape from my grip.

“Yes, there is. I’m not letting to walk away from me. We can’t have this problem unresolved,” I say, keeping her close to me.

“Why?”

“Because of Destiny. I love you, and I don’t want you to leave me. Don’t you love me, too?”

“Harry …”

“No, Destiny. If you loved me, you wouldn’t keep trying to leave. You have to forgive me. I can’t lose you. I love you more than anything. And if you keep ignoring me, how in the world are we suppose to get past this. How am I suppose to go on knowing that you actually never loved me?”

Almost, instantly, without warning, Destiny crashed her lips into mine. Her hands reached for mine, and they interlock as we kiss tentatively, passionately, and then, tenderly. “Don’t you dare ever say I never loved you. There isn’t moment that I’m not thinking about you. There isn’t a moment that I’m not dying to be with you. I love you more than life. You made me fall so damn deep, so deep that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get out. I love you so much that it's starting to hurt. I …”

I begin to trace her lips lightly with the tip of my finger. It puts slightly, and I have such an urge to bite it, to kiss it, to wrap us up in a quilt and listen to our gentle breathing, watching the cotton ripple like skipping stones and sharing crooked smiles. “Then, let me be with you. Let me love you. Let me prove to you again, that none of this betting crap meant anything. Let me show you.”

“Harry …” Destiny whines, as she trained her eyes on my lips.

“Please.” I insist, running my hands through her hair.

“By the end of exams,” Destiny says, after a moment of silence.

“What?”

“By the end of exams. Prove to me that, that bet meant absolutely nothing.”

“And if I can prove it?”

“Then, we can push this aside, and continue on as if it never happened.”

“And if I can’t?”

“Then … then, there is no more us.” Destiny says quietly, clearly hoping that this wouldn’t have to be the case.

“Deal,” I say, cupping her face as I lean in for another kiss.

“Deal.” Destiny quietly repeats, against my lips.

The rest of the week went by, and Destiny made a tremendous effort to stay out of my sight. Every lunch she made an excuse to disappear somewhere to study. After school, she would go straight home, alone. Every day, becoming increasingly quiet and more tired. The only chance I got that to talk to her was in Civics and English, where she would be focusing on studying. Although, she still made an effort to at least give me one passionate kiss and tight hug each day.
