Begin Again
*1 week later*
Alayna's POV:
"I'm heading out to school now." I glanced at my phone and saw Jared's text. "Okay, drive safe." It was the first day of a new semester for the both of us and for the next 8 months, we will be living two completely different lives as he goes to a different college than I do.
I glanced back at my phone to see if he replied at all before he left his home but there were no new notifications. "An 'I love you' would've been great." I rolled my eyes at the disappointment I just got but reminded myself that Jared's just like that.
"I'm heading out now!" I rushed out the door as I let my mom know I was leaving. "Hey! Are you stopping by the shop later? We have a big order for tomorrow."
"Crap! I totally forgot. Uhm, I already have plans with Jared. Can't I do it tomorrow morning? I don't have any morning classes." Lauren rolled her eyes and waved her hands to shoo me away and off I go.
"I hate this!!!" The sight of this school gives me more anxiety; first day of a new semester gives me even more anxiety. I got down of my car after I found a parking spot and hurriedly walked to my first class.
I put my music on full blast so my headphones can cancel out most of the busy noise everyone's making. Everyone seems happy to be here but I'm not. My social anxiety really isn't doing me good.
"Perfect!" I glanced up at the room layout and found the perfect spot at the back but as soon as I was walking up, I felt a hand tug at me. "Here!"
Harry's POV:
"Here!" I tugged on her arm and as usual, she was as oblivious as ever. "Huh?" She spun around and had a blank look on her face at first.
"Oh! Harry!" Her indifference was replaced by surprise. "Let's sit together." I flashed a smile as I patted down the seat next to me.
"I totally forgot you were in this class." She softly smiled as she sat down. "Yeah, I wasn't expecting you either." I tried to play cool but in all honesty, I knew she was coming. I remembered her schedule when we talked about it last week.
"Well, I guess I can rest easy that you're here." She untensed her back unconsciously which means she really meant what she said. Uni must be hell for her considering she hates big crowds. I know she's not the most social person either and the fact that she was darting towards the back of the room confirms this altogether.
"Yes?" She looked at me wide-eyed. "Oh sorry. I was just thinking about something." She caught me smiling to myself but I really can't help it. I'm genuinely happy that I'm here for her; I'm here to help her make everyday less of a hell, at least here in school.
"What were you smiling about?" I shrugged and I played it off as if it was nothing important and she turned away and pouted unconsciously. "Seriously, it's nothing. Don't worry, okay?" I smiled and gently touched her hand to reassure her.
"Okay." She faintly smiled as she pulled her hand away. This is going to be a lot of work, that I know for sure but I'm not one to back down from a challenge.
"Class, let's begin." We both looked up at who I'm assuming is the professor. "Let's begin, indeed."
