Romancing The Jungle

“Now, I don’t want what happened yesterday to happen today. (He warns in a kind matter) Your ankle is mostly healed, but please just rest today on the ship? I went insane when I lost you yesterday, darling.” I nod at my caring father’s words, as I hug him lightly. “When will you be back, dad?” He pats my shoulder, as he rises on his feet. “Three hours from now. I will make sure the cook prepares you pasta; your favourite.” We share a smile as he kisses my forehead and leaves my room.





Once the footsteps vanish from the ship, I jump from my bed and dive into my bags to pick out my outfit for today. Heels, or no heels? What the heck, a lady must always look like one. Thinking of such, a brilliant idea strikes my mind. I rush to my father’s room, grabbing some stuff and rushing back towards mine. I place them in a backpack, along with a packet of gum, water, and tissues.

Smartly, I smile to myself once I notice the same path I took yesterday. I kneel down carefully, as I place my ear on the ground. If I was in London doing this right now, people would think I am demented. I was taught this back in university: You see, the ground levels are highly sensitive and they capture all of the sound waves close by. Meaning, if there is a footstep nearby, I would be able to track it. But my aim was not a footstep, I was aiming for water.





In full concentration I was able to capture the sound of the water nearby, which made me take out my phone and use my compass application. I placed it on the ground from where the sound came from, and it pointed to the direction I need to follow. Smiling in victory, I hold my phone in my hands, and walk as fast as I could, only this time I focused my eyes on the ground; lesson learned.




It took me fifteen minutes to reach the exact stream that I was at yesterday. The sight of the waterfall gave me a déjà vu memory of the wild beauty taking his bath under it. His bronzed skin glittered under the waterfall, his eyes were closed and his head was tilted back, allowing the water to comb back his hair delicately. He is a masterpiece indeed. If only I would be able to communicate with him; if only he could speak to me just once. I set the duffle bag on the ground, then a sudden rustling voice comes from the tree branches above me.





I cross my fingers as I wish it is him, and I look upwards. The rush of his hungry-emerald orbs swims into my blue pair, as he jumps downwards like a titan. I, again, shy my face away from his body. I quickly kneel down and take out the jeans and underwear that I took from my dad’s closet. I hold them out for him, as I speak pleasantly. “These are clothes. We wear them, because some body parts must be covered all the time, for self decency.” He furrows his eyebrows at me, and snatches the boxers from my hands.





I don’t flinch at all, because if I did I would probably scare this lost soul. He examines them in his hands, as I place the jeans on the duffle bag for now. I have to do this, because I want him to adapt and learn the basics. “(I take it from his grab slowly, and he lets me) Here, I will show you how to put them on, okay?” He doesn’t speak, and even though I might have sounded dumb right now, I had to teach him. Let’s hope this young man would understand me.
