The Babysitter
Cafeteria Blues
Day 2- Wednesday night
I ignored Luke yet again for the rest of the night. I was snuggled on the couch, watching "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". I looked at the clock and saw that it was 6. I might as well take my shower now, I mean, I'm not going anywhere.
I passed by Luke in the kitchen as he was doing his homework and went upstairs. I shut the bathroom door and locked it yet again, checking to make sure I had a towel before I hopped in. My worries were momentarily forgotten as I massaged my strawberry body wash into my skin and sang my troubles away.
"This is, the part when I say I don't want ya! I'm stronger than I've been before! This is the part when I break free cause I can't resist it no more!" I practically screamed at the top of my lungs.
The next thing that came was a bang on the bathroom door and a "SHUT UP!"
I laughed, "make me Hemmings!"
I continued to sing horribly off key until my shower was finished. I felt so much better, I think the Mcdonalds really helped. I got out and found my towel wrapping it around myself. That's when it hit me. I didn't have a change of clothes, and there was a teenage boy in my house. Fuck.
I peeked my head out, "LUKE, WHEREVER YOU ARE....STAY THERE."
"What?" He called back.
He sounded far away, so I took the opportunity to run to my room, clutching the towel around myself. I turned the corner towards my room and ran right smack into him, stepping back on my towel. The weight of my foot dragged the whole towel down, exposing me infront of him.
My jaw dropped and I screamed in terror, trying to gather my towel as quickly as I could.
He was just in shock, staring down at me.
"Stop looking you creep!" I cried.
"I- uh," he stuttered, still unable to look away.
I finally got it around myself. My cheeks were bright red in utter embarrassment, and I was shaking. He was still frozen in his spot, a slight blush creeping up on his own cheeks.
"Uh...sorry?" He scratched the back of his neck.
I wanted to cry. I've never felt so embarrassed in my life. I barely kissed a boy before, so as you could bet, I was the least bit comfortable with Luke seeing my entire body naked. I pushed past him for the second time that day, trying to get to my room as quickly as possible.
I slammed my door and leant against it, slowly sliding to the floor. Tears pricked my eyes, and I let them fall.
"Fuck," I heard him let out a husky murmur.
He was probably going to tell everyone how ugly I was now. I knew I wasn't exactly ugly, but there were parts of my body I didn't appreciate, like the lack of a gap between my thighs for example. It was something that was easily concealed by a skirt, but there was no skirt to hide that now.
I pulled myself together and got dressed. Then I laid in bed again.
"Are you going to eat dinner or not?" He banged on my door once again.
"Just leave me alone," I called back weakly.
"Fine," he shrugged, "suit yourself,"
Day 3- Thursday
I couldn't bare to even look at Luke the next morning. I was still embarrassed. Well, I don't think embarrassed is quite the right adjective. It's more like utterly horrified and/or humiliated. He acted as if nothing happened, which I was thankful for. I don't think he was doing it for my sake however, I'm pretty sure he just wasn't interested, not that I blame him.
"Don't leave like that again," was all he said when I got out of his car.
I didn't even nod as I left. I wanted to get away from him as soon as humanly possible. Amber had already spotted me, but instead of coming to yell at me this time, she was yelling at the devil himself. Good. I'll cheer her on as she does so.
I could hear her screams even as I was quite far away. It brought the ghost of a smirk to my face. Anything Hemmings got was fine with me. I guessed that Luke still wouldn't tell her about his current living arrangements. That's his own damn fault. I just hope I'm not pulled into his drama any further. I looked over my shoulder to see him standing at the side of his car, practically cornered by Amber, as she screamed and gestured wildly- and I laughed.
That's right, I laughed my ass off to my class. I could just imagine the things she was saying to him. The funny part was that I honestly had no idea whether Luke cared or not. Sure, she was his girlfriend, but they had only been dating for a month. Besides, Luke can't care for anything. He's Luke. I almost felt bad for Amber in that sense.
I decided to keep the little nudity incident to myself, I didn't even tell Audrey. I was too embarrassed. I don't think I'll ever get over it. He's not even my boyfriend, he's my enemy, which made it worse. So here we were, at lunch. I was sitting at my table of friends, including Audrey and some others. We were having a grand ol' time as always.
Our table always turned out the messiest, because we were always throwing small articles of food at eachother, trying to catch it in our mouths, and only getting it in like, 15% of the time. Then we all played "nosies", and whoever touched their nose last had to take the entire table's trash.
Looks like today is my lucky day.
Calum's POV
"I still can't believe that goal went in," Ashton snorted, "did you see it Luke?"
He was staring off into the distance. Ashton glanced over at Michael and I with an amused smile on his face before turning back to Luke.
"Luke?" He coaxed, prodding him a bit.
Luke blinked and looked over, "what?"
His tone was snappy and impatient. We all looked at him, somewhat annoyed at him. He had been like this for the last couple of days. He just spaces out and doesn't talk to us. I think he's just got a lot on his mind, but he shouldn't be taking his anger out on us- especially not Ashton.
"What's up your ass mate?" Michael asked bluntly.
Luke rolled his eyes, "nothing,"
"Then can you, like, focus for a second and actually participate in a conversation or...?" Ashton teased.
"Yeah yeah," he muttered.
They were talking, but now it was my turn to be distracted. I was scanning the cafeteria, looking for my next possible fling. To be honest, the school was very limited looks wise. The ones who were attractive had been gone through by either me or the other three. I spotted little Makayla, carrying a mound of trash to the barrel while the rest of her friends laughed. She rolled her eyes.
"I'm not losing tomorrow!" She declared.
I gave a small smile. She always interested me. I don't really know why she did, maybe it was because Luke hated her. I don't know about that either. She seemed like a regular girl to me. She was really pretty too. How could Luke possibly hate her?
Then I spotted trouble. Amber was strutting her way over, a tray of food remnants in her hands. She was watching Makayla with a malicious expression on her face.
"Fuck," I cursed, knowing it would be too late for me to stop it.
This caught the attention if the other three, and they all turned to see what I was gawking at.
"There's the little slut," Amber smirked, "was that food all for you?"
Mickey rolled her eyes and dropped all the trash into the bin. I knew she was trying her best to ignore her.
"Oh, you forgot this," Amber added, dumping her entire tray on Mickeys head.
The whole cafeteria saw and went completely silent. Makayla looked completely shocked. Her jaw was dropped to the floor.
"Ooops," Amber brought a single finger to her lips, trying to look innocent.
God knows that the girl sucks at pretending to be innocent. She's the dirtiest rag in the drawer. You know, the one that used to be white but it got used all the time and now has those stains that never come out.
Makayla closed her mouth, her big brown eyes becoming engulfed in sadness.
Amber laughed, "that's what you get for fucking around with my boyfriend bitch,"
Mickey looked around, her eyes finding Luke. She looked so betrayed. I knew they weren't friends, but still. How could Luke be so mean, sitting by and watching a girl he barely even liked totally demolish and humiliate another infront of the entire school?
Mickey turned on her heel and walked right out. I could tell she was already crying by the way she walked. Luke just watched her leave with a blank expression.
"You know, you really are an ass," I muttered.
He turned and glared at me, "butt out Calum, you're not involved,"
"You don't seem to be either," I snorted as I got up.
