Forgotten

Awakening

My name is Paris Grant.

I'm twenty-three.

And that's about it except for the image of very tall buildings racing around in my head.

Why that would be relevant is beyond me due to the fact I'm currently standing in the middle of the forest.

It's weird because I seemed to wake up, though I was standing upright, and I'm sure that when you sleep, you're lying on the ground, not standing up.

Suddenly I got a feeling of fear, and also a feeling that I wasn't supposed to feel fear, that I had been trained somewhere to be fearless, even when you were looking Fear in the face, and it smiles at you.

Maybe it didn't matter now, but I still pushed down the fear, hearing a voice somewhere in the back of my head telling me to grow a pair and be brave, and that it had my back, and I trusted it, because it was the only thing I had at the moment.

That and a red tank top, a brown leather jacket, dark denim jeans, and black combat boots, plus a a thigh holster with a shiny black gun in it and when I touched it, it felt familiar. I shuddered and drew my hand back.

I heard the rustling of leaves and whipped my head around, getting into a fighting stance. Do I know fighting stances? I must because I'm sporting this one like a new top and it happened so easily like a reflex.

I hoped it was a small animal that would be more scared of me than I am of it, and if it were something huge, I could use the gun to scare it off, and if that didn't work, I could just shoot it in the leg or something and run off. Why the hell am I discussing battle strategies?

The thing that came out of the bushes made me scream and my mouth dropped but my hands tightened into fists.

It was tall, about seven feet, with shaggy dark grey fur, sharp teeth, a snakelike tongue, and claws. It hissed at me and I spun, and fled.

I heard it running after me but I didn't look back, I knew that if I did it would distract me from what's in front of me, what I needed to do. Which was get the fuck out of there.

I felt myself gasp as I saw the jagged edge of a cliff approaching and I almost stopped and let the monster, but I did the exact opposite, I flung myself off the cliff and felt myself falling.

I didn't scream, I fell soundlessly through the air, my arms flailing wildly by my sides, hoping to catch onto something, but there was nothing, and that was when I felt fresh and new, as if I were almost home.

I looked down to see a river right below me and I thrust my hand out and the water began to shake, and I willed it to move and it created a cyclone made of water and the normal person would have felt like this was the weirdest person ever, but I felt as if I'd done it before.

I hit the water but it cushioned my fall and I found myself underwater, but I guess forgetting my identity also comes stupidity, because I forgot to hold my breath, but it turns out I didn't need to. I was breathing as regularly as I was above water.

I smiled and laughed, happy that I wasn't drowning and I again manipulated the water to my will and I used it to propel myself forward to somewhere that I could only hope was safe.

I crawled out of the water, thanking it mentally for the thousandth time and I thought all was good, until a creature like before shot out of the woods, screaming like crazy and I threw up my hands as if to protect me, completely forgetting about my powers, but the water didn't.

It shot out and hit the creature like a wall, sending it flying back and I smiled at the water and the creature howled with fury, springing up and racing back towards me and I got ready to will the water to give it a concussion but suddenly a gust of air appeared out of nowhere, knocking the creature to the ground.

I turned my head to see a boy, he was muscular, with dark brown hair, gorgeous blue eyes, and was extremely handsome. He wore a black t-shirt, black jean jacket, black jeans, and black sneakers. His eyes scanned me and suddenly he used another gust of air to fling the creature back into the water and I used the water to drown it, blocking out it's last screams.

"Who are you?" The boy asked. "When did you get here?"

I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out and I cleared my throat, jumping a little as even that sound itself was new to me.

"My name is Paris Grant. I am twenty-three and I don't know how I got here." I explained. "I just opened my eyes and I was here, and one of those things attacked me but I escaped by jumping off a cliff."

"You did?" He asked.

"Mhm." I nodded. "Thanks for helping me."

"Uh, sure." He sighed. "Are you okay?"

I nodded. "What's going on?"

"If I knew I'd tell you."

"C-could you help me?" I begged. "I don't want to be alone out here by myself. I'm scared."

The dark look in his eyes changed and he smirked.

"Sure, let's go. I have a friend setting up camp."

He turned and walked into the forest and I jogged after him, hoping I could trust him.
