Stockholm Syndrome
Day Fourteen
I waited patiently in the small room, my legs crossed and fingers drumming. I've been so anxious these couple of days. I haven't went to see Michael yet. I had to talk to Luke first. Chelsea's okay. I know she is. Michael wouldn't let her out of his sight.
The door opens and in comes Luke. He was in a grey jumpsuit with hands cuffed in front of him. His hair was still partly quiffed but it was starting to fall. Then I noticed his black eye. I stand up quickly. Luke looked up at me with a small smile. Behind his blue eyes I could tell he's having a hard time.
"Hey, mate." I say. He nodded and sat in the chair in front of me. I sat back down quickly, staring at him. He was lost in his own thoughts.
"Already got beat up?" He didn't even react. He just kept staring. I stay silent for a while, waiting for him to speak first.
"H-Have you seen Chelsea?" He asks after a while. I knew the first thing he would ask was that. I fold my hands in front of me.
"I haven't yet. I just got back from up north to talk to Eli."
"You talked to Eli?" Eli is a guy we turn to when we're in trouble. He's got money and owes us. He said he'd try to get Luke the best lawyer possible and pay bail. Only if Luke gets bail.
"He's trying to get you a lawyer." Luke nodded slowly
"I came straight here after I talked to him. I was going to go to the house but I needed to talk to you." I say. Luke looks at me with a frown. Ever since our little 'intervention' about confessing, I've been more protective over Chelsea. I know she'd try to look for me so I told Michael to keep her in the shed at all costs. I trust him.
"Chelsea... Did we even think about what she's going through? Michael won't be able to protect a hormonal teenage girl. This was a mistake." I say. Luke blinks a couple times.
"We can't turn back now, Ashton. Mikey will just have to deal with her. You have no idea how much I love her and ever since I was little I was told that if I really loved someone to let them go. And that's what I did." I felt my heart drop. Luke did love her. He never stopped talking about her ever he got home that one day.
**
"Guys! Guys! You'll never guess what happened today!" Luke yelled through the house as he ran around to gather us up. The smile on his face was new. I haven't seen it in years.
"What is it, Luke?" Michael sighed, pausing his video game. Luke collapsed on the couch with a dorky smile. This should be good.
"I saw a girl at the park."
"There's girls everywhere." Calum laughed. Luke sat back up, face red and eyes sparkling.
"No. Not like her. She is so beautiful. She had her headphones in and the way she bobbed her head to the music was so... ugh. And her smile was just... And her eyes... Oh my God." I smile at his little crush.
"She was that great?" I asked. He nodded, eyes wide, smile spreading from ear to ear. I look over at the other boys to see them either rolling their eyes or chuckling. Our little boy.
"And- And our eyes locked for just a second and I felt like I was going to explode with all the butterflies in my stomach." He spun around, giggling to himself. I've never seen Luke act like this. It's so adorable.
"Alright, Luke. You act like you're in love with the girl." Calum chuckled. Luke stopped spinning to look his dead in the eye, face totally serious.
"I think I am."
**
"I know you loved-"
"Love. I still love her. I'll always love her." Luke corrected me, making my stomach flip. The way he talks about her makes me think of some kind of story. He's always so serious and just totally whipped.
"Sorry. I know you love her but what you did. You told her you were there for her but now she's alone. Michael can't comfort someone." I say.
"He did that one day. He's got this under control, Ashton. Everything's gonna be fine."
"Then what if she forgets about you while you rot away in jail? What if she falls in love with a man that didn't have to kidnap her to get her to notice him. What will you do? Nothing. Because you're sitting in a prison cell, waiting twenty years to pass by." I snapped at him. He stared at me in shock.
"Y-You're right... What do I have to do to see Chelsea again?"
When my time ran out with Luke, I decided to go see Chelsea and Michael. I hope she misses me just as much as I miss her. I was so ready for one of her hugs. They were always so warm and amazing.
I pull into the driveway, looking around to be sure no one was around before hopping out and running inside. I look around for anyone. I walk into Chelsea's room to see a bunch of stuff laying all around the room.
WHAT?!
I rush for Michael's room next. His hair dye cabinet that was beside his mirror was open. One spot was empty. When I open the bathroom door, I see a brown hair dye box. Opened. Oh dear lord Jesus.
I ran as fast as I could towards the shed, knocking hard. It was silent. I yank it open to see Michael curled in a corner. Only Michael. He looks up, eyes red and puffy.
"I-I tried. I couldn't stop her." He sobbed, tears gliding down his cheek. My heart pounded. I kneel beside Michael. Sure, I was absolutely furious but I know he tried. He pushes me away from him, wiping his tears.
"Why are you here?" He grumbled. I sit down cross legged.
"Well I just got back from talking to Eli about Luke and I decided to come see you and Chelsea." I explain. Michael's eyes widen in terror.
"B-But she went to find you."
