McKenzie’s P.O.V
I stood on stage, microphone in my hand, the bright lights blaring in my eyes, utterly nervous, and terrified out of my mind. ‘Oh hey sorry that is just me reliving my thought but I should probably start from the beginning. It happened so long ago though. Well… it would make more sense… so… only for you guys.’

‘It started a whole year or so ago. I was driving to school with Avery and Cece, my best friends, and Avery started to complain about having to set up the gym for the Christmas dance in three days and how she still hasn’t found a person to host the dance. I of course, being the amazing, wonderful friend I am, offered to help her in any way I could. That was mistake number one. When we got to school The day started normally and I was quite Happy to take some stress off Avery and started to walk to math, Adv. Calculus.’

“I am so excited for the Christmas Dance! Riley has finally asked me to go to it!” Cece Chirped happy to go with her crush that she has had since about freshman year. We are seniors now. I swear she is absolutely obsessed with him. Personally, they make such a cute couple, and I know Riley would never hurt her.

“I am so excited for it too I finally get to go alone to a dance! I am just going to ask Avery to let me be the host so I don’t have to worry about going with a creeper. But I am happy for you. Actually we should probably go dress shopping today after school.” I replied to her. I was seriously ecstatic going alone to a dance because I hate it when guys I don’t even know ask me to the dance just because the thought that I was pretty. That and I just broke up with my boyfriend. I just didn’t like him anymore.

“Uh, you do know what the host has to do at the dance, right?” Cece asked her voice laced with amusement
and slight undertones of another emotion I couldn’t figure out. I didn’t know what the host actually did because most of the time I was hiding from the person who asked me. They are all usually jerks who treat me like all I am is arm candy. Talk about annoying.

“Well, not really, but I’ll just ask Avery she should know since she has to find someone to be the host every dance, right?” I answered curiosity evident in my voice.

“She probably will tell you, and, if not, I’m sure you can get one of those date hopefuls to tell you what it is.” Cece commented enthusiastically and somewhat sarcastically.

I just rolled my eyes “Whatever we’re at the classroom already so we should probably get ready to not talk for an entire class hour.” I sang with slight humor, knowing it was going to be hard for us to not talk for an entire class. We are absolute chatterboxes.

“Um-hm” She mumbled back with a knowing smirk, which showed she understood it would be very difficult especially with the teacher we have. It is one of those horrible, mean, strict, rude teachers who just never seemed to like it when Cece and I talked. Weird right?

We walked into class and took our seats in the front row. I looked to board to see our assignment for the day. ‘Notes on unit 9 lesson 6 and practice pg. 492’ was all we had today. Finally super easy stuff! The rest of the class hour flew by in a flurry of numbers and other mathy things and before I even knew what was happening the bell was ringing, signaling the end of 1 hour. I met back up with Cece and we started heading over to our 2nd hour- mythology with the best teacher of the day, Mrs. Knukols.

We arrived at her classroom 3 minutes later and went over to our seats by Avery and Matt. As we are sitting down the tardy bell rang and we are almost late, for the millionth time.

“Alright class today we will be starting the huge project I told you all about during the beginning of the school year, you know the one I warned you about and how soon it would come to bite you in the butt? Yes, that one.” Mrs. Knukols commented. “You will work in groups of 4. When you get this paper,” she held up a paper containing different ways to present the myth we each got assigned last week,” You may begin.”

We finally got ours and immediately started to ‘discuss’ what we should do to.

“I say we write a paper that is the modern version of the Persephone and Hades myth. It would show that we understand the myth enough to reinterpret the myth.” Avery suggested.

“That is way too boring!” Matt complained. “We need to do something exciting and interesting, besides if you really want to write a paper go to English, I have a huge paper that needs to be written. Let’s make a 20 minute movie about the myth, and then it would be entertaining and fun at the same time.”

“Sure, sounds good to me I can make props and costumes with Cece.” I replied not really caring what we did, so long as Matt and Avery didn’t fight,

“Great, and Avery since you wanted to write a paper, you can be in charge of the script with Matt. You can even assign the characters.” Cece announced. “Kenzie and I will start the costume designs right now and you guys can start on the script.

“Fine. Only because I know I am outnumbered.” Avery agreed.

Cece and I then went to work on the costumes peacefully the rest of the hour.
