I Knew You Would
Chapter 8
Harry's POV
It's been a week since Annie has gotten out of the hospital. We've been sharing the same bed every night, I've made her breakfast every morning. Everything seems to be going fine. Her memory though, it hasn't been improving. Well not much. She'll ask me about dreams she's had, about us meeting for the first time, about us waking up next to each other. Those things did happen. But she still doesn't remember that night. Or other major things that have happened in her life. I haven't told her about the people she has lost, I haven't had the heart to. I can't relive those events again.
This morning Annie told me she wanted to see where I proposed to her. We agreed that we would 'reenact' the whole thing. A little childish, I know, but it could be good for her. I had to buy her a new dress, however. The one she wore that night was covered in her blood. I told the doctors to throw it away; I couldn't bare to see it again, stained red. The new one I got her looks similar, though. At least, it's the same color. Black on top, tan on bottom.
I pull up my tie all the way to my neck.
God, I can't wait to see her.
Once I'm done combing through my hair, I head downstairs to wait for Annie. I let her change in the bedroom while I changed in the room next door.
Our baby would have loved it in there.
I shook my head, chasing the thought away.
I hear the upstairs door shut, and quickly stand up.
There she is. Wow. She looked amazing last time, but now, just, wow. It might also be the fact that I can't wrap my arms around her and kiss her like I could then.
"Hello?" Her voice snaps me back into reality. "Ready?"
"Uh." I clear my throat. "You look, so...beautiful."
She looks down, pulling a strand of hair behind her ear. I should have been the one doing that. God, she's so cute when she blushes.
I hold out my arm, which she takes, and say, "Let's go."
**********
We pull up to the restaurant. I hurry and hop out of the car and open the door for Annie.
"You sure you want to do this?" I ask.
She looks up at me. "Of course."
We walk inside.
"Last name?" The lady in the front says. Of course to get in this place you have to have a reservation.
"Styles." I reply.
She leads us to our table and says the waiter will be right with us.
"This place is nice." Annie says.
"Ya," I say smiling, "I'm gonna have to admit, you're not a cheap date."
Her jaw drops and she playfully smacks my arm from across the table. It takes everything in me not to catch her hand and kiss it.
The waiter comes with water and takes our order. I just get a steak, while Annie gets the Fettuccine.
A few minutes later I ask,"What do you want to know?"
"Well, I was wondering...what we talked about when we were here last."
My smile faded. "I told you already. We talked about us."
She nodded. "Yeah..but..what did we say? And who brought it up?"
The waiter comes and gives us our food. That was fast.
We both start eating. "Well," I begin, "you spoke first."
She looks up at me. "Really? I did?" I nod. "What did I say?"
"You said you wanted to talk about our future. If our relationship was going to go into anything more than it already was."
"Oh." Is all she says.
I wait a few more minutes to continue. "You said you wanted to know where we were headed."
"Interesting..go on." She looked amazed that she would say something like that.
I smiled. "Yeah. I just told you to be patient, and that I'd come up with something."
"That's it?" She asked.
"Well, I mostly spent the whole time trying to stall you. So you wouldn't suspect anything." We both continued to eat. "I wanted to ask you so bad, but I knew I had to wait."
She didn't respond.
This is a little weird. I don't know what to say. Usually I would tell her how beautiful she is, or how much I wanted to kiss her. But now, I feel like I would just make it more awkward. I just want to tell her so much. She deserves to hear it.
"Whatcha thinkin' about?" She asks.
"Oh," I say, pushing my plate forward, letting her know I'm done,"nothing."
She soon finished her plate. We pay the check, and quickly leave. I can't tell you how anxious I am to show her the London Eye.
**********
We walk towards the big Ferris Wheel. "Here it is." I say.
She looks up at it, amazed by how big it is.
"You used to want to come up here all of the time. Just to look at it." I say. "I never really understood why you liked it so much."
"Is this where you asked?"
I look at her, and grab her soft hand in mine. "Here," I say leading her closer the the Eye, "it was this way."
We stop a few hundred yards in front of it. "It was. Right. Here." I say stopping, standing in front of her.
She smiles, and looks up at me. "So...how did you do it?"
I smile back and look down at the ground. "I just told you how I felt about you, and then popped the question."
"Oh, come on! I know it had to be more than that! I want to know exactly what you said. Pretend that this is the night that you are going to propose to me."
"You sure?" She nods, biting her lip. God, it drives me crazy when she does that. "Okay."
I grab both of her hands in mine. "Annie," I start, "you are the most amazing girl I have ever met. You mean so much to me, and I have no idea what I'd do without you. I love the way..you smile...they way you, run your fingers through my hair..I love that feeling I get whenever I'm around you..." I bring my hand to her cheek, "...whenever I touch you..and I know I could never tell you how much I love you. So that's why, Annie," I kneel down on one knee,"that's why I want to spend the rest of my life, trying to show you how much I really do. I love you so much." I can see the seriousness in her eyes as she looks into mine. "Will you marry me?"
Tears run down her face, and I quickly stand up. I wipe away the tears with my thumb. "No, don't...don't cry." She grabs onto my hands.
"That was..so beautiful." She says. I hold back the tears, wishing so bad that this was real.
We stare into each other's eyes for who knows how long. The next thing I do surprises us both. But I can't help it.
I kissed her.
