Blank Space

Ember’s POV

I knew this town wasn’t safe. I knew Harry could protect me, and I knew he wanted me to trust him. But the thing was, do I want to trust him? Do I really want to put my trust in someone I know nothing about? I know I can trust him, now that I know all the times I was saved in the past it was either him or having to do with him, but I still find it hard to put my trust in him. I know Zayn wanted me to, and obviously Harry did, too, and there’s really nothing holding me back except for fear.

I walked away as quick as I could from Sebastian if that was even his name, he was freaking me out. I knew he would notice I was gone, so I had to hide fast. I saw a door and walked towards it, and just as I walked in, my phone rang. Harry, of course. I answered it, timid of what he’d say. Over the phone call, I learned that Sebastian works for his dad, and that he only wanted to hurt me, not give me a ride home. I told Harry I was hiding in the faculty bathroom as I locked the door and turned off the lights. I hid under the sink and put the brightness on my phone all the way down and started to play subway surfers to wait. Twenty minutes later, I heard knocking on the door. “Em, it’s me, let me in.” I heard a voice say. “It’s Liam, let me in.” They tried again. I got up and stood on my tiptoes, looking out the small window, not letting them see my face. It was Liam, with Harry and Louis standing behind him. I unlocked and opened the door and walked out, into the protection of the tight circle they’d made. “Is he still here?” I asked. “Sebastian? Yes. But it’s okay, we won’t let him near you.” Louis said.

“Guys, I’m fine. He won’t touch me, I can walk by myself.” I said as they all started walking, with me in the center of the group. “We’re just trying to keep you safe.” Liam said. “I can do that myself.” I snapped, and walked up beside Harry, taking his hand. He smiled and swung our hands as we walked towards the car. “So how was your day, love?” He asked. “It was great, other than the scare with Sebastian.” I smiled. “Well I’m glad it was great, if you must know, the meeting was terribly boring, and only lasted a few minutes. If you want, I’ll take you to the next one.” He offered, and kissed my temple. “No, I wanted to move into your apartment this week anyways, and like you said, it wouldn’t be safe…it seems a bit contradictory to keep me safe from afar for years and then not be able to once you’re close. Besides, I’m starting to trust you, and I’m sure you need to be doing whatever it is you do rather than focusing on me.” I said, shrugging. He nodded. “You’re starting to trust me?” He asked. “Yeah, I mean it’s hard for me to trust, but I want to. You have this charisma about you, I don’t know what it is, but it calms me.” I shrugged again, shrugging seems to be my signature today. As we were walking, it seemed as if everyone had stopped and started to stare. Of course, I know why they did, but we just kept walking. From all around I heard whispers, “is that the Harry Styles with Ember?” Was heard the most. It got quite annoying, really, we didn’t invite them to our barbecue so why are they all up in our grill?

We finally made it to the car, after what felt like an eternity of walking along the halls filled with penetrating stares, rumors already formulating from what I could guess. I got into the back of the car and rest my head against the headrest, exhaustion hitting my body like waves. “You alright?” Zayn asks from the front seat. “Mhm.” I nod tiredly, and lean on someone’s shoulder. “Why’s she so tired?” Louis asks. “She stayed up late last night, and she worked this morning before her class, and the thing with Sebastian probably stressed her out.” Zayn replied, and that was all I heard before drifting off to sleep.
