Custody

"I'm going to refer you to a specialist," the doctor said.
Hayley stared up at him in shock, her mouth slightly agape, "what?"
"You seem like a very emotionally distressed person to me," he sighed, "I don't want you to take this as a bad thing, you'll feel a lot better once you're able to actually talk about your feelings with someone who cares."

She glared, "I am NOT crazy,"
"You are not crazy," Doctor Watson sighed.
"Then I don't need to go to a therapist," she spat, "I'm perfectly capable of sorting out my problems on my own accords,"
"Hayley you broke down twice during our little conversation." He pointed out, "you seem to be very sensitive,"

She felt a new round of tears stinging her eyes. This had to be one of the worse nights of her life. Ever since she came here she'd been poked and prodded and treated like an experiment. She could tell that the workers here were all looking down at her, pitying her. Then to top it all off, this Doctor was forcing her to talk about things that were still relatively fresh in her mind and hurt all the same. Now she was crazy.

All she wanted was to go home. She wanted to see Calum. He always knew how to make her feel better. He didn't treat her like she was crazy either, he loved her no matter what.

"I want to go home," she stated, her voice cracking at the end.
The dr. sighed, "very well. Ill get your papers in order. You are free to come along with me if you'd like,"

She nodded, not wanting to sit in this dark and tiny room any longer. The seats were cheap metal and leather and they really hurt to sit on. She stood up, her legs shaking as she did so. Hayley followed him out into the main part of the station. He had a stack of papers and was filling them out while she stood against the desk, looking around. Nothing interesting in particular was going on at the station. She spotted two men sitting at a desk, talking to eachother excitedly. It was hard not to hear their conversation.

"Yeah, Lenny told me that they finally got that Hood kid I'm custody," one said.
"Oh yeah?" The second smirked, "where are they keeping him?"
"Just in the back," the first shrugged, "they aren't really worried about him escaping,"

Hayley felt sick to her stomach. So Calum wasn't as elusive as she thought, she knew she should have been worried all along, but the thought never dared to cross her mind. She figured that Calum was just too smart to get caught by the cops. He always thought ahead, which enabled him to stay on the outside of the jail for so long. As far as she knew, he'd never been arrested before.

"Where's Calum?" She whimpered.
The Doctor looked up, "he's here. But you can't see him,"
"Why not?" She demanded.
"Because I don't see it good for your health," he reasoned.
"Calum is good for me," she argued, "he doesn't force me to do anything like you do!"
"Calum doesn't love you," he sighed.

She clenched her tiny fists angrily, "don't you dare tell me that he doesn't. You don't know him like I do,"
"A man like that is incapable of caring for anything. Not even himself," the doctor shot her down.
"I don't care what you say," she scoffed.
"I have to go get these approved, stay put," he ordered.
She huffed and nodded.

As soon as he left, she went up to the lovely elderly woman who was the receptionist. She put on her sweetest most innocent smile, asking where Calum's cell was. The woman was obviously confused as to why she was asking such an absurd question, but Hayley told her that she had to deliver some papers.

The woman relaxed and told her directions about how to get there. Hayley smiled and gave her a thank you. Then she made her way out of the room as quickly as she could. Finding the cells was much easier than she figured. She found a hallway, lined with them. Of course he was in the last one.

She took shaky steps, feeling utterly terrified by the inmates in the cells around her. She looked straight ahead while they all hovered around the front bars, whistling and saying really repulsing things. She didn't feel much better than before she came to find him.

Finally she came down to the last and peeked her head in. Calum was sitting in one of the back corners, a blade in his hand, carving something into the cement walls.

"Calum," she whimpered, pulling on the bars impatiently.
He looked up, completely alarmed to see her. He got up and came right to her, hugging her as best he could through the bars.
She immediately started to cry as he did so, "I want to go home Calum,"
He shushed her, "I know princess, shhh,"
He wiped her tears, "it's going to be alright. I promise,"

"But you're in here and I'm out here," she sniffled.
"Good," he whispered, "don't worry about me alright? I'll be out, it's not permanent. As long as you are safe, away from here you'll be okay,"
"I don't like the doctor," she told him, "he told me that I have to see a specialist because I'm emotionally distressed. They think I'm crazy,"

"You're not crazy," he whispered, wiping the stray strands of hair from her face, "I swear once I get out of here, we can leave and go somewhere where no one will bother us,"
She nodded, "okay,"
She heard the door at the other end of the hallway barge open and the doctor was standing there, angrily.

"I told you to stay put!" He scolded.
She shifted uncomfortably, not knowing the right response to say. He paraded inside.
"Come on, it's time to leave," he told her impatiently.
She tightened her grip on the bars, shaking her head stubbornly. The doctor grabbed her shirt, pulling her back.

"Let her go!" Calum snarled angrily.
The doctor didn't seem dazed as Calum could do nothing because he was locked up.
"Security!" The doctor hollered.
Another man came in and grabbed Hayley, successfully prying her away. She fought to get out of his rough grip.

Calum was beyond angry now. He wanted so bad to go over and take her away from that man. He was being to rough with her, she could break. He paced back and forth behind the bars like an agitated lion in a zoo. His fist slammed into the concrete wall, causing his knuckles to start bleeding, but he didn't care. He was numb at the moment, anger was the only thing he felt.

"Pull something like that again and I'll have you thrown in jail too," the doctor warned.
Hayley stared at the ground, only nodding slightly in response. Officer Mark and a woman came in with the twins sleeping in their arms. Hayley sighed in relief, taking both babies in her arms. She was so glad that they were safe and still sleeping.

"One last thing," the dr added, "I'm sure you've met Officer Mark,"
Hayley nodded carefully.
"Well he's the officer who is assigned to your case," the doctor explained, "which means that he's going to be visiting you multiple times while your case is going on to make sure that you are handling yourself,"
She bit her lip to keep her mouth shut.

"Don't think of it as a bad thing," the dr muttered uninterestedly, "we are more worried about your children than anything. Wouldn't want to lost custody know would we?"

Her jaw dropped to the floor in utter shock. There was absolutely no reason for her to lose custody. Her children were taken care of, she was a very capable mother, even if she was young. And Calum was a great father.

"No," she mumbled.
"Good," he nodded, "nice to see that we understand eachother."
