All I Ever Wanted

Love Lock

"Would you ever leave me and have me beheaded if I couldn't give you a son?" I snickered, admiring the painting of King Henry VIII in the European Monarch Exhibit.

I was a huge history nerd and stories of those great rulers always captivated me. I knew when we decided to stay a few extra days in Paris that I had to talk Harry into bringing me here. He liked history too, so he'd agreed.

"No." He paused. "I'd only leave you and have you beheaded if you couldn't give me a little girl."

I waited for a giggle, but he remained straight-faced.

"Sheesh, I know you want a daughter and all, but you're going a little too far." I acted hurt.

"Henry the Eighth did it. Why can't I?" He folded his arms.

I shot him a look and sulked off to admire another painting. I knew he was joking, but it was fun to go along with him. After a few moments of reading about the painting, I felt his arms slip around my waist from behind.

"I couldn't have you beheaded. It's against the law." He whispered.

"Oh, but you would leave me." I huffed, pretending to be mad.

"Well...."

His cheek was pressed against mine and I could feel him smirking. I playfully elbowed him in the stomach, causing him to turn me loose.

"I was kidding!"

"I know." I turned to smirk at him and then pranced off to see more of the museum.

"It's a gorgeous evening!" I slipped my hand into Harry's as we walked along Paris' streets.

We'd gone out for an early dinner so that we could walk the streets and eventually watch the sunset together. Dinner had gone well, but Harry had seemed a little off - like he had something on his mind. After the amazing time we'd been spending together, it left me a little worried.

Is he realizing what it's going to be like to be with me all the time? Am I smothering him? Is he backing out of this relationship? He loves me, right?

Too many unwanted thoughts bounced around in my head and I'd tried to push them aside, but Harry's behavior was odd enough to keep them coming.

He kept silent as we walked, looking to the ground, or out in the distance.

"So, where should we go to watch the sunset, Mister Tour Guide?" I grinned.

Since he'd been showing me around, I'd started to call him that and every time I did, his face would light up with a goofy grin. This time though, it didn't.

"Um, the bridge over the Seine?"

He nodded in the direction. I couldn't tell if he was asking or telling so I just followed along next to him.

We got a little closer and I could see a gate on the bridge with some sort of decoration. The bridge was practically empty of people and I heard the sweet strumming of a guitar in the distance.

"Harry! This is Love Lock Bridge!" I tugged on his hand like an excited child. "You know, where lovers hook a lock onto the bridge and throw the key into the river - like a symbol that nothing will ever break their love!"

For the first time since our walk, a grin crept its way onto his beautiful face. His dimples made me want to kiss them off his face.

"I know. Isn't it romantic?"

I nodded. We came to the edge of the bridge and looked out past the locks and at the sunset. The sun was slowly setting, but hadn't quite got their yet.

"Oh Harry, let's go buy a lock! Pleeease!" I couldn't stop thinking about how badly I'd always wanted my husband to bring me here. Harry wasn't my husband, but he was who I wanted to be my husband, so this was perfect.

"Well...." He stuck his hand into his pocket. "I think I might actually have one."

I grabbed his face and kissed him before he could pull the lock out of his pocket.

"I've always, always wanted to do this Harry. Thank you! God, I love you so much!"

"I love you too, baby." He giggled and put his hand back into his pocket to retrieved the lock.

"Here, unlock it."

"Oh, we have to put our names and the date on it, too! It's what all couples do!"

I took the lock from him quickly, scanning it for a good place to write our information. My jaw dropped when I'd saw what he'd already written on it.

Leah,
Will you marry me?
Love, Harry

I reread it over and over and over. Once I could finally peel my eyes away from the most beautiful words I'd ever seen, I looked back to Harry who was now on one knee.

"Leah Sadler, I love you more than life. You are the woman that was made specifically for me. I don't know how I lived the first twenty-one years of my life without you, but I do know that I want to spend every second of the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?"

He held a little blue box with a gorgeous, sparkly ring inside.

Tears streamed down my face as I nodded 'yes.' I was completely speechless as he slipped the ring onto my finger. He stood and pulled my face into his hands, kissing me passionately.

"I love you." I whispered, pressing my lips against his once more, but I pulled away again, pressing my forehead to his. "I would love nothing more than to spend the rest of my days by your side."

He picked me up and twirled me around.

"You've just made me the happiest man in the universe!"

"And you've made me the happiest woman!" I smiled, happy tears still overflowing onto my cheeks.

Harry reached down and wiped them away with his thumb.

"Let's do this." Harry took the lock from me and unlocked it with the key from his pocket.

Together, we hooked it onto the fence.

"You ready?"

We both kissed the key and tossed it off of the bridge. As soon as it hit the water, he turned to me and kissed me.

"Forever yours. Nothing can break that." I smiled.

"I love the sound of that. What do you say we go celebrate?" He wrapped his arms around my waist, facing me.

The sun had finally set behind us.

"A bottle of champagne is waiting beside our hot tub at the hotel." He wagged his eyebrows.

"You sure know how to woo a girl, Styles." I smirked.

"Mum raised me quite well." He grinned as a limo pulled around the corner and up beside the curb.

We climbed inside and headed for the hotel.

"Is it rude to wait until tomorrow to call and tell everyone?" I asked Harry as I played with his damp curls.

We were in the hot tub on the balcony of our hotel. The balcony overlooked the city and the Eiffel Tower was in full view.

"No. I'm sure they'll understand."

He traced little patterns onto my thigh as I took another sip of my champagne.

"Does anyone know?" I asked, admiring the rock on my left finger.

"I asked your dad for his blessing when we were all in LA a few months ago and I told my mum that I was going to ask you. But no one knows I was doing it tonight. I didn't even know until the wedding."

"What do you mean?" I glanced up at him.

"I bought the ring back in New York because I knew you were the one, but I'd planned on waiting awhile. I didn't want to push you into anything. I just wanted to be absolutely sure the timing was right. While Louis and Eleanor were saying their vows, I couldn't help but look at you and think about how badly I wanted us to be the ones standing there, devoting our lives to one another. You complete me in so many ways, Leah. As I stood there thinking about how much I loved you, it just felt completely right. You're living in London now, we're insanely happy, and it's all just perfect." He paused, wrapping himself closer around me. "I was so nervous, though."

I grinned so wide I thought my face might crack.

"You had me worried. I honestly thought something was wrong - like you'd decided you didn't want me anymore." I let out a small laugh.

"You're absolutely crazy." Worry lines creased his forehead. "I couldn't live without you. You should know that."

"I do know that. But you know me, I freak out too easily." I patted his arm, hoping to show him that I really did know how much he cared for me.

"You do." He laughed and all the worry left his face.

I took another sip of my champagne as Harry began to shower my neck with kisses.

"But, I do love that about you." He spoke between kisses.

Oh God, these kisses.

Our moment was interrupted by Harry's ringtone. "Who's calling you at this time of night, knowing we're in France?" I was aggravated.

I'd been enjoying our solitude and those neck kisses and now someone had to make me worry.

"Who cares." Harry mumbled, still kissing me.

"Harry, we have to check it. Something could be wrong." I peeled him off of me and grabbed a towel.

After a quick drying off, I grabbed his phone.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Leah! Hey, it's Niall. Uh, Emma - Emma's going into labor. We're on our way to the hospital!"

I heard screaming in the background.

"Oh my God! Okay Niall, we'll be there as soon as we can!"

I threw the phone in the floor from excitement.

"Harry! We're about to be an aunt and uncle! Get dressed!" I ran into the room, forgetting about the heated moment Harry and I were just getting into.

"So much for celebrating." He mumbled as he walked into the bedroom, clearly upset that our moment was ruined. "Couldn't she have held it in for a few more hours?"
