Darling I'm No Angel

Because Three's a Crowd

"This morning when we bumped into each other, you had dropped this when you got up." Mystery guy said, holding my necklace in his hand. The last place I had left it was on the table stand next to the bed I sleep in. So how could I have possibly dropped something I was never even wearing?

"Thank you." I say skeptically holding the fabric together on the back of my gown. The name Christian was on the tip of my tongue. I was feeling desperate to know this guy's real identity. I held my palm out for him to drop the necklace. I urged backwards and looked at Harry who was still sitting down carefully watching me.

"You should really get some more flowers. It'll brighten up your room. Besides the ones you have are dying." He said pointing to the orchids in the vase that turned a slight color of brown. Whoever he was his vibe went from friendly to creepy.

"If we need more decorating tips I will let you know. So until then don't come back."Harry stood adjusting his shirt. The guy who I have yet to learn his name acted as if he wasn't quite ready to leave my room. It was my mother's presence that made him exit. Which was a rare thing for men of the opposite sex to do. Her long wavy blonde hair was pulled back into a perfectly positioned ponytail that swayed behind her.

"Mrs. Chambers." He greeted her before he left. I thought to myself how did he know Harry, and what my mother looked like? It just kept getting strange from there. She didn't treat him like he was out of place either. More like a familiar acquaintance.

"Hello dear." She said not fully paying attention to the people she was walking by. Mom was too preoccupied trying to figure what was on the paper she was holding. Glancing up her raised eyebrows nearly touched her hairline. She looked furious with the two of us. If smoke could come from her ears this would be the perfect time. I'd never seen such an angered expression on her face.

"I'm going to do my best by keeping a calm composure." She said firmly.

"Mom before you get anymore upset." I said in my best calming voice. She closed her eyes like she couldn't look at me.

"Anymore upset?" She exclaimed. "Anymore upset Victoria!"

"With all do respect there is no need to for to loose your temper." Harry told her.

"Believe me it's all directed towards you." Mom said.
I stood between my mother and Harry once again. If only I hadn't moved. Mom looked down and saw my dress was slipping, Harry's coat lying on the floor beside the bed, and his shirt was messily buttoned. Anyone could've put two an two together as to what we where doing in here. I pulled my sleeve up and still kept my other hand behind me. Mom broke our eye contact and shifted uncomfortably.

"Things like that cause things like this." She said shaking aggressively the paper in her hand. Oh god she knew. That meant it must've been confirmed. Harry walked up closer to me and wrapped his arm around my waist.

"Who told you?" I asked her. "Your nurse Jamie stopped me and wanted me to give you the news." She spoke like she was tasting something rancid. Dare I say it she was being a little overdramatic. Handing me the picture of the sonogram I looked at it waiting to see something.

"You weren't showing because the embryo didn't fully form into a fetus." Mom continued. "There isn't a baby and I'm not going to be a grandmother." She said sounding relieved.

"What about what Dr. Ross said about hearing another heartbeat?" I asked her. Not knowing whether to jump or cry.

"You were misdiagnosed which is highly unprofessional on her behalf. Victoria honestly I thought of all people you would be ecstatic." Mom said. I wanted kids in the near and very very distant future. Though I couldn't help but feel disappointed. Hearing her say I wasn't pregnant was a good thing. I'm just really growing tired of people vanishing on my behalf.

"You're off the hook, now I think that was your queue to go." Mom said talking to Harry again. "Really mom I don't see why he can't be in here. " I told her. Still needing him by my side.

"I can think of some reasons. One he was driving the car you crashed in. Two he makes you act like a completely different person. And since he's back did he tell you that he's been seeing others girls who aren't you?" Mom asked me. She seemed pleased with herself for getting all her thoughts out. I tore myself away from Harry. Giving my mother exactly what she wanted.

"What is she talking about?" I asked Harry. Not caring that mother was listening to our conversation.

"This is what I was worried about most. Seeing you looking at me like that." He breathed. "How am I looking at you?" I shrugged.

"Disappointed, hurt, angry." Harry described. "Well I've had an eventful morning an I'm tired." I said feeling exasperated. I really just wanted to lie down until the pain I felt everywhere passed. My headache came back and of course it was everything but kind. Without another word of warning I walked over to the bed and climbed under the pitiful sheet this place called a blanket. Harry and my mom looked at me, because really what else was there to say?
"Do you need anything?" My mother asked me as if nothing happened. I could've laughed if I wasn't in such of a terrible mood. I stare at her with a dumbfounded expression.

"You could leave." I told her feeling quite bold. Not protesting with me for once she left. Harry inched closer to me and I sat upward. He was taking notice of the flowers mystery guy was talking about.

"I waited for you to come back to me." Harry explained. He tugged at one of the flower petals out of frustration. One by one the flowers fell to the ground. "In my defense I didn't ask you to wait." I said turning the dove charm in my hand.

Harry turned around and walked my way. "No I didn't mean it like that." He said.

"You know I'm actually not feeling that great so." I say dragging my sentence. "I can take a hint." He said collecting his coat from the floor. His light demeanor changed to cold and distant. Taking the only flower that still looked colorful with life. Harry took the blue orchid petal and carefully placed it on my hand. Our fingers grazed each other's and his thumb skimmed over the back of my hand. I wanted this so badly now just wasn't time. I wondered if there ever will be the perfect again cause once upon a time there was.

"I'm not going anywhere this time." Harry said to me as he left. He lingered before walking away and I wanted to stop him. I didn't want to be alone, but it was what I needed. I wasn't even sure if I was angry with anyone. The more I thought about it the more I cared-less. I kept my eyes closed for only a few minutes. It was when I drifted off to sleep I lost count. Waking up later over in the day. I imagine their silhouettes in front of me replaying everything that happened this morning. No one had been in since then and I was okay with that.

"Knock Knock!" Jamie said narrating her actions as she opened the door. I rubbed my eyes til they felt dry when I opened them. "You have a visitor." She chirped.

"Tell them to come back later." I said still feeling a little tired, rolling on my face.
"Trust me you're going to want to see who is just outside the door." Jamie urged.
