Just Peachy

“Are you sure about this, Momma? I don't want to intrude,” I say, straightening out the ruffles of my baby blue dress. “I don't exactly know these people.”
“Emily, she is my coworker, and we were invited to come. We cannot leave now, it would look horrendous,” my mother shuddered.
We pulled into the parking lot, and I saw many expensive-looking cars already parked.
When the car stopped, I hestitantly got out and waited for my mother. I saw her looking at herself though the car mirror and rolled my eyes. I winced; my heels were making my legs cramp.
We were about to walk in, but a man with little to no hair on his head stopped us. “I'm sorry, we have to have your names before you enter.”
“Julianne Rudd,” my mother spoke, “and my daughter Emily Rudd.” The man moved out of the way after checking a clipbourd he had in his hand, apologizing and letting us through.
It was the traditional wedding, a podium and the room split in half: one for the groom, one for the bride. We say down in the side with the sign that said ‘BRIDE’ on it in black font.
“I can still call a taxi,” I said after I turned to my mother. She gave me a hard look, telling me to shut it, so I clasped my hands together, and sat silently.
Lord,
help me to remember
that nothing is going to happen
to me today that you and I
together can’t handle
Amen
I silently prayed. I wrapped my hand on the small cross necklace I had wrapped around my neck. I prayed to the Lord for myself, for the groom and bride, and for everyone in the room.
More people started to pile into the room, the faint smell of alcohol filling my nostrils. I pointed out to my mother that the groom and the priest had stepped out onto the small stage in front of us.
There were a few young men that came in, sitting down in the front row, just in front of my mother and I.
Men and women, groomsmen and bridesmaids, came out of the door we had entered previously. Some of them more polished than others.
What struck me suddenly as I realized I was a celebrity wedding, because the best man was Louis Tomlinson, standing tall and proud, looking rich with his perfectly gelled hair and stupendous tux.
I looked over at my mother, feeling even more heat.
Then I saw a two little girls, obviously twins, spreading red flowers down the isle, one of their arms linked to the others. I smiled, they were quite beautiful in their pretty red dresses.
