The Party (Part 3)
I groan. "Can I stay here? My dad isn't there and I don't want to wake up alone with a hangover."
"Sure, love. Let's go." He guides me up the huge marble staircase, and I notice that barley anybody is there.
"What time is it?" I ask him.
"Almost 1:15" "Jesus!" I slur sleepily. As we get to the top of the stairs, he guides me to a big blue room. Actually, you could barley tell it was blue because there were pictures plastering every wall. Nearly everything was covered, from the bed frame to the back of the desk chair.
"Wow..." I began to say.
"It was my sisters." He seems to read my mind. "She took pictures of everything."
I gazed around the room, mesmerized. Slowly, I walked towards one picture that caught my eye. It was a blonde girl with light blue eyes standing next to a familiar tall frame with dark, curly locks. I look over at him.
"That's her." He whispered softly, his eyes not meeting mine as he gazed at the floor. "Before..." He paused for a little, as if he was trying to gather his words in a certain way. He shook his head. "Never mind. It doesn't matter now"
He turns around and begins to walk towards the door.
"Harry..." I say lightly. "Tell me."
He sighed heavily. I sat down next to him on the edge of the bed.
"About two years ago, my mum, my sister and I all lived together. Gemma was very outgoing and fun, but a little bit shy when you first met her. It took her a little while to come out of her shell. She had only a few close friends, but they were like family. One night, she went out with her two best friends, Jessica and Ana, and their boyfriends. They went to some club. I guess Gemma felt left out, because she didn't have someone to dance with. So she went out on the dance floor and met this guy, Dan. They were together for a while, and she spent most of her time with him. I didn't really like the guy, just because he made it so I couldn't spend any time with Gemma."
He let out a deep sigh, and paused for a little.
"One day, he came over and they were hanging out in the basement. I was in the kitchen when I heard them yelling at each other. Dan was saying something about how she 'could never please him' and how she was 'worthless'. I was very protective of Gemma, we kind of stuck together during the divorce, and I hated to see her being treated like that. I ran downstairs, but I was too late. She was collapsed on the floor, unconscious. Dan stood there, looking down at her until he saw me. I could smell the alcohol in his breath.
'What are you doing here?' He slurred angrily, his eyes filled with rage. I wanted to rip his throat out.
'No one, I repeat NO ONE lays a finger on my sister.' I yelled. Before I could think, I slammed him against the wall and punched him as hard as I could. He fell down, his face bleeding profusely. I grabbed Gemma, who had hit her head and was out cold, and carried her up the stairs. I took her to the hospital and waited with her all night. When she woke up the next morning, she was confused. I told her what happened. She shook her head and cut me off.
'Who is Dan? And who are you?' I couldn't bare it, her not remembering anything. I got up from the chair, and just ran.
I must've been running for miles, because I didn't recognize anything around me. I sat there for hours, alone. Late that night, I found my way home. My mother was sitting alone at the table, crying. I rushed up to her and asked what was wrong.
'Gemma... She ran away from the hospital...' She could barley speak, her throat clogged with heavy tears. 'They don't know where she is...'
We looked for her for months, but had no luck. Last January, the police told us that it was time to stop looking."
I looked up at Harry, astonished. "I'm so sorry..."
He met my gaze, his piercing green orbs locked to my own.
"You should get some sleep..." He said, getting up. He handed me a pair of boxers and one of his loose t-shirts.
"Wear this." I took the bundle of clothing as he left the room. I lay awake in bed, thunder crashing loudly outside, making me unable to sleep. I got up and wandered to Harry's room. Lightly, I opened the door.
"Harry?" I timidly mumbled.
He rolled over to look at me. "Are you okay?" He asked.
"I can't sleep."
"Come here." I walked over to him, slipping under the duvet.
His long finger just barley grazed my shoulder, and I shivered a little. Slowly, he extended his strong arm to me and pulled me close, my back pressed to his warm front. He reached under the sheets and lightly took hold of my small hand.
"Aria?" He whispered.
"Yeah?"
"Goodnight"
"Goodnight" I murmured, falling into a deep sleep.
