True Colors
Fight Night
"What is this place?" I asked
"This," Emily opened her arms wide, "is the Alpha House,"
"What goes on in the "Alpha House"?" I tilted my head to the side.
"Boxing matches," Dana answered helpfully.
"Were coming here to watch a boxing match?" I mumbled
"Yes!" Emily grinned, "trust me you'll love it. The boys fighting are really hot,"
"Great," I snorted
I followed them into said "Alpha House". It was an abandoned building that probably functioned as a factory at some point. There were bouncers at the door, filtering who got in and who did not.
So we stood, waiting in line to get in. Honestly, this was not what I imagined when they said we were going out for the night. I imagined going to a club and dancing for a while, but obviously they had different intentions. There were a lot of another people actually. I was surprised that people would wait this long for some fight.
"Hey honey," a deep voice purred in my ear.
I scrunched my face up in disgust at the sight of some drunk college boy trying to pick me up.
"Whataya say we skip the fight and head back to my place for some fun?" He grinned lazily.
I scoffed, "in your dreams ass wipe,"
He only laughed in response and teetered off elsewhere. I rolled my eyes and turned forward again.
Dana and Emily were watching me amusedly.
"What?" I asked curiously.
"You just slayed him," Emily laughed, "that was amazing,"
"Props to you," Dana clapped.
I smiled, "uh thanks?"
We waited a little longer and the line was getting shorter and shorter. The talking was only a dull buzz until out of nowhere, shrill squeals of girls erupted. I looked up, startled. Excited chatter and giggles emitted from the females in line. Everyone near me, Em, and Dana turned their heads to see the commotion going on near the end of the line.
We finally got to the bouncers who were making sure we weren't cops who'd squeal. So this really was legit. I was definitely more interested now. The crowd behind us got louder and louder until it was right behind me.
We were about to walk into the building when the bouncer put his hand in front of us to hold us back from entering. We were all dumbfounded until four boys walked right by us. They were all focused straight ahead. I scanned my eyes over each other them curiously, they looked my age.
When I got to the last, a tall boy with blonde hair, I noticed that he was already staring at me. When our eyes met, his lips quirked upwards into a smirk.
"See you inside Kitten," he winked at me.
I just stared at him for a moment, not processing what he said to me. A little blush tinged my cheeks.
He followed the three boys inside and they disappeared. Once they were fine, the crowd calmed down and the bouncer let them in. Emily's jaw was dropped to the floor. Dana laughed softly.
"Oh my god," Emily grinned, "Kara do you know who that is?"
"Erm...should I?" I asked
She nodded, "yes!"
"Em," Dana rolled her eyes.
"Well who is he?" I tugged Dana's sleeve, pleading for an answer.
"Luke Hemmings," Dana answered, "he goes to our uni,"
"That's not all!" Emily squealed, "he's the leader of Alpha Phi Gamma! He throws all the best parties on campus and he's super hot!"
"Oh," I shrugged, "cool,"
"Kara!" Emily whined, "he just talked to you! That means he likes you! You need to talk to him!"
"I doubt he wants to actually talk to me." I rolled my eyes, "he sounds like a player,"
"He is," Dana nodded, "but I'll give it to Emily. He's really hot, all his friends are too,"
"So hot it hurts," Emily whined.
"You can talk to him in my place," I told her.
She huffed, "I would if he winked at me,"
"He probably does that to every girl he sees," I snorted.
"Yeah well see if you still don't want to talk to him by the end of the night..." Em smirked.
I sighed and followed the pair inside. It was different than I imagined. The room was dark and there was a bar and dance floor. Lights hung from the ceiling, flashing throughout the room as the music blared and people grinded.
"Now this looks like fun," I grinned.
"Can we get drinks?" Dana asked, "I wanna loosen up,
"Yeah, but we do have early practice tomorrow," I reminded.
Emily waved me off, "I do what I want,"
We went to the bar and all got drinks. I got watermelon vodka mixed with sprite and something or other. It was really good. And it helped me loosen up a bit.
Emily said the fight was gonna be in another hour, so we danced for a while. I didn't want to leave the dance floor, but they dragged me out. We went downstairs and entered a underground auditorium area. In the middle was a cage, probably where the fight would take place. There were not any chairs because people probably moshed'n shit everywhere anyway.
People started to file In with us. A group of girls pushed to the front. They were sitting on the poles talking to some guys. Probably groupies. I laughed at the thought.
Eventually, it became really crowded. We were getting pushed and shoved and u still wanted to leave. Emily refused to let me leave. She wanted me to talk to him again before we did. Surprise surprise, I didn't want to do that either. I'm just another face to him.
"Alright alright! Who's ready to see Marcus Well take on our champion?"
The crowd errupted into cheers. Boys filed in. On one end was a boy I never saw and on the other was Luke. Of course. So this is why we had to watch the fight. He was only wearing a pair of black shorts as he taped his knuckles. I kept my eyes from wandering as best I could, but his muscled torso was hard to ignore.
"See I told you" Emily giggled
I shook my head and rolled my eyes again.
Soon the fight began. I stood and watched as they circled the ring, testing boundaries. The girls in the front were cheering extra loud and taking their shirts off. What a freaking mess.
The boys in the ring paid them no mind. The second boy took the first shot, which Luke blocked easily. Luke stood a shot, landing one on his jaw. Hell broke loose after that. They were both taking rapid hits and blocks and what not. I grimaced. It must hurt like heck to do that.
The winner was clear. It was not Marcus.
The announcer lifted Luke's arm up and the crowd went crazy. Marcus was wiping blood from his mouth and nose. I sighed and looked over at Luke. He had managed to find me again in the crowd. He grinned and bit his lip. I looked away.
"Hey em, can we go now?" I asked, "I'm tired,"
"Aha no," she laughed, "you didn't talk to him, don't think you can get away that-"
"Nice to see you again kitten," I heard.
I made a face at Emily before turning. Dana crossed her arms and smiled amusedly.
I looked up at him, before either of us could say a word, someone came onto the microphone yelling that the cops had arrived to bust people.
"Shit," Emily squeaked grabbing my arm, "we need to leave!"
I nodded and looked over at Luke one last time.
"I never got your name kitten," he rose an eyebrow.
I kept my mouth shut but Emily was still determined.
"It's Kara," she pointed to me, "now if you excuse us, we can't get arrested,"
I had no time to react before she yanked me through the crowd and into the night.
