And Her Name Was Day
Chapter 2
Day's POV
I say in the police station shivering and crying continuously. Cooper said that he would be able to take me home but I would have to talk to a detective first. They had given me a blanket to wrap around my shoulders and a cup of coffee to keep me warm. I was sitting in a grey room that looked exactly like ones that you see in movies. A camera was set up and was pointed right at me, not recording yet. A man in a black suit and his partner came in to talk to me after a few minuets of me sitting in the quiet room. He turned on the camera and I became nervous.
"Day Keelington? Mind if we ask you a few questions?" One of them asked sitting down as the other pulled a chair over from the corner and sat down too. I shook my head slowly, wanting to get this over with.
"I want you to tell us what happened exactly earlier this after noon. Okay?" He asked.
I took a deep breath before replying, "I came home after volleyball practice and went about what I normally do. I threw my bags down, called out for my mom and got no reply. I walked into the kitchen but didn't see her so I checked the living room. Something red happened to catch my eye and when I walked around the side of the chair I saw my mom's dead body. I started screaming for my brother but he didn't come. I ran up stairs to his room and saw him laying dead on the floor too. Called the police, locked my self in the bathroom, and that's it. That's when the police came."
"Do you remember your mom having an enemy's? Any one who would want to do this to her? Or your brother too?" The second detective asked.
"No. Everyone loved my mom and brother. They never had anyone in their lives that would want to do this to them." I shook my head.
"Do you remember anything unusual this past week? Something even slightly strange?" The first guy asked me.
"No. Everything was completely normal." The detective nodded and stood up, going to turn the camera off.
"Wait!" He paused. "There was something a little unusual earlier today that I saw." The detective sat back down and signaled for his partner to continue writing in the notebook that he had been taking notes in.
"I was leaving school yesterday and there was a black car there. A guy was leaning against it and when he turned around and saw my and my friend, he started walking towards us. Cooper Sampson is a cop here, and my friend that I was walking with was his sister. He pulled up to pick her up from practice and when he pulled up in his cop car, the guy turned around and walked away quickly like he was scared. After my friend and Cooper left, the guy started to walk back over but I pulled out of the parking lot before he came over. I never really got a good look at his face though." I said quickly.
"Do you remember what he was wearing?" The detective asked.
"Regular clothes I guess. Jeans, black shirt, black jacket, and sunglasses." I said.
"Okay thank you for your time." The detective smiled and turned the camera off. He opened the door and signaled for me to come too.
"Can I go home with Cooper now?" I asked the detective.
"Yes, you're free to go." the second detective smiled.
I spotted Cooper talking to some other cops and walked up behind him to wait for him to finish talking. He turned around and saw me and smiled. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed my forehead.
"It's raining, do you have a jacket?" He asked as we started to walk towards the door.
I shook my head so he took off his jacket and wrapped it around my shoulders. He told me that there were a lot of people outside from news channels and stuff so I prepared myself.
"Wait! Mr. Sampson, we need Day for another moment." The detective from the room called out to us. We walked over to the two detectives, the sheriff, and a new guy I had never seen before.
"We won't be needing you to keep Miss Keelington at your house anymore. This guy right here will be doing that." The sheriff said to Cooper.
"Why? Who are you?" I asked the new guy.
"Mr. Tomlinson here has proved that he will be a good choice in taking Day along with him instead. Cooper may I talk to you for a moment? Privately?" The sheriff asked.
"Sure, Day stay here." I smiled and walked away with the sheriff. I watched as the sheriff began talking to him and then holding out papers to him. Cooper took them and began reading. When Copper looked up he looked almost surprised at the guy and walked back over to me.
"Day this guy will be very safe for you to go with. I wouldn't send you anywhere that I didn't think was safe. Trust me, he can explain everything to you later, okay?" Copper said placing his hands on my shoulders.
"But I thought that I was going with you!" I complained.
"Trust me Day, this guy is way better than I would be." He said. "But you do need to go with him okay?"
I nodded and took off Cooper's jacket to give it back to him. The new detective, Mr. Tomlinson, was it?, gave me his jacket and I slowly accepted it. I hugged Cooper goodbye and followed Mr. Tomlinson to his car. Cooper was right when he said there were a bunch of people outside. We have to shove our way through cameras and people screaming questions to get to his car. He walked me to my side, let me in, then went and got in on his side. When we finally got out of the parking lot, I began asking questions.
"Who are you?" I asked a little harsh.
"Louis Tomlinson." He answered quickly. "You can call me Louis."
"Why are you better for me then Cooper? What do you do?"
"I work for your father. He sent me to watch over you." He answered.
"Prove it."
He handed me the stack of papers that Cooper had been reading earlier. As I scanned through then I noticed that he was right. There was a handwritten letter from my father explaining that he was sent to protect me and only him. It had a phone number on the bottom that said if there were any questions to call him there. Attached were a few papers that were all about Mr. Tomlinson's information and a picture to prove he was the right guy. Also attached was a paper that was from the police station. It showed a printed phone call conversation between the sheriff and the number my father had wrote down. The sheriff was verifying all of the papers and my father was stating that everything was correct.
"How do I know that it's not all fake? How do I know that my father wasn't forced to write it?" I asked.
"Call him." He handed me his phone where a number was pulled up. I pressed the call button and it started to ring.
"I trust that you have my daughter and she is safe with you?" The voice that I recognized as my father's answered.
"Dad?" I asked.
"Oh princess, I didn't realize that it was you." I heard him speak. "How are you darling? Holding up okay?" He asked.
"I guess. Why couldn't I stay with Cooper?" I asked.
"Mr. Tomlinson is one of my strongest protectors, even though he is young. You need to trust me and do everything he says. He is on strict orders and everything he does will be to put and protect you first. Okay?"
"Yes dad. When can I talk to you again?" I asked. It had been so long since my dad had called. He almost never does. Late at night on birthdays and anniversaries was about it. Except for the few days a year that he would come home. He owned a very high up business that made a lot of people hate him. My father used to be part of a gang when he was younger. It was a large gang with big groups of members scattered out all around California, where we live now. As this gang grew, they started owing money to people and other gangs became jealous of how much power they had. This large gang became almost like a business and now my father runs it. As power grew, he even had large groups of gangs threaten to kill him but never succeeded. It was always hard to talk to him.
"It will be quite a while sweetheart. Like I said, trust Mr. Tomlinson and obey what he says. Take care sweetie. I love you."
"Love you to dad." I smiled and hung up. "Where are we going?" I asked Louis and gave him his phone back.
"Your new home. Your father had previously owned it incase of an emergency like this, you will be staying with me there." He smiled at me.
"Okay." I replied.
I was extremely exhausted from getting no sleep yet, and hungry from never having any dinner. After about 15 more minuets we arrived at a house almost the same as my old one. It had a gate, but no long driveway. It was just a simple short one. The house was huge and was about 3 stories. Louis told me that it had a theater, game room, pool, basketball court, and even a small two-lane bowling alley.
"You choose any room you want, I think that there is about six. I will have one right down the hall from yours. For protection
purposes, of course. When you find one and get settled, come downstairs and eat dinner. I want to get to know you more." He smiled and I nodded as we got out of the car. He showed my how to work the alarm system as we walked inside. I quickly went upstairs and searched through the rooms until I got to one with big white double doors, a huge bed, a small make up table, a desk, a balcony, a walk in closet, a bathroom, and a flat screen tv. It was beautiful and this is the one that I wanted.
I walked down stairs and smelled spaghetti and garlic bread cooking. When I entered the kitchen, I saw Louis standing over the oven trying to stir the sauce that kept splattering onto him. I walked over and took the spoon from him and began to do it more careful than he was.
"Well of course you know how to do it. I'm not the best cook." I laughed as he spoke.
"I can tell." I smiled.
"I never asked, how are you holding up?"
"I just want to take my mind off it right now. Not think about everything going on." I stated quietly.
"Okay. Then tell me about yourself." He said.
"I go to Assumption High School, I am a senior there, I play volleyball there, I'm 18 almost 19, and my best friend is Keely Sampson. What about you?"
